At minute 17. Buckin', youse calls it "... a 'puzzle', a 'matrix'..., even." Now ME! I calls the Buckin' Billy Ray 'Army o' Kindness' - AND all of it's associated whorl'-wide Families and Tribes - a 'tapestry' of wonderousk people. A great, big, glorious Tapestry; each lil' wee piece, magnificent in it's own Right, but Spectacular when 'shoulder-to-shoulder' amoungst it's Brothers an' Sisters.
I'm pleased to be a tiny wee thread in that beau-tee-ous Tapestry o' Our'n.

Your large following allows you to build others up. It allows you to "spread the love", & I think that's amazing. I have a very small following, but I still use my platform to build up others. I've been shown amazing gratitude for helping those people, even though it's not life changing yet. It's my favorite thing about having a following, & makes my day when it helps other youtubers. I've been blessed to slowly develop a following, & absolutely love sharing the wealth!

Nice to see a BC company making a good bushcraft axe. There is a rapidly expanding number of Eastern European and Russian Forges getting into this market as there is a large demand for them, I wish Lamaca well as they grow their business. I have a lot of axes of this size weight, most I have rebuilt with my own customized hafts, most are of Swedish or Russian origin. Bushcraft axes far out sell full size axes and I agree the shaft material, shape and size is crucially important, this. Most 'bushcrafters' look for short handles 'packable axes' and 20" to 24" appears to be the length in most of them, so as with all things there may be a price to pay with shorter handles. Of course, for true 'bushcraft' tasks (splitting and bucking small diameter wood for campfires building shelters, making stakes, shaping down canoe paddles, spoons, benches, etc. shorter handles are less cumbersome. I can see the thought that has been put into the design of the head, a sign of a master craftsman who listens. Thanks Buckin' Woodsman Spirit.

Brades Cockatoo @ 22:48. Legendary axes...I think I have maybe a half a dozen or so of them, as well as a few of their hunter's hatchets, half-axes, and rabbit trap setter...as well as a few adzes and a brickie's scutch hammer.
According to an old bushie I met in Murrurundi, the Cockatoo was an attempt to capture the solder-settler market here in Australia, post-WWI. Returned servicemen were allowed to settle parcels of Crown (Federal, for the Yanks among us) land - provided they could clear it and make it profitable. It was a way of paying back servicemen (and women!), as well as settling some of the more sparsely-populated rural areas.
To clear your land, you no doubt needed an axe - although I've never been quite clear just as to how they were specifically marketed to soldier-settlers. At the time, the axes of choice would be Plumb USA (inventor of the Tassie pattern), Kelly (of course - with their famous Dandenong and cheekily-named New Tasmanian), and maybe a few Collinses, Wellan Vales (before they got swallowed by Kelly and became Kelly St. Catharines), and maybe that Walters.
At any ate, even if that's not true, the Aussie timber-getting industry was rapidly taking off, and it was being driven by American axes - Britain definitely wanted in on that, and a company as large and hallowed as Brades could not sit it out.
The Cockatoo was Brades' only Tassie pattern, far as I can tell. Came in a variety of shapes and model numbers, with the 1571 being by far the most common I've come across, and weights, depending on model, from three to six pounds. (I'd LOVE to get my mitts on a phantom bevel Cockatoo).
And for those who are wondering about Brades: they were the Rolls Royce of toolmakers. Had their own steel mill, fantastic quality metal - it just feels...nicer...than most anything. They sent tools to all corners of the British Empire, back in the day, and tailored their designs and marketing to each region - though for a while, some tools were made locally. I believe Cyclone Forgings did do some local contract Cockatoos. And, interestingly, unlike the rest of their axes, the Cockatoos' weights were listed in actual pounds, not # numbers. They release a lot of tools under different marques, too: Eagle Edged Tool Co, Good Temper, Pagoda, Giraffe...
Their "Criterion" line are the creme de la creme; I've got a few of their little hatchets and they are jewels, with, quite clearly, a LOT of forge work gone into them. Deep, sweeping bevels that takes a lot of work.

Can I be honest I'd love to own a lamica axe but they aren't cheap really you can get other well known, several well known axes that are far cheaper,I get that its hand forged but you can get a gran fors for cheaper the same size of axe,I'm not hating they look beautiful and I can see they do a great job I would take a lamica axe no problem, and I've started collecting axes but I don't have 200 bucks to give for an axe I wish I did but at the moment I don't let's hope one day I can own one because I love that hand forged look you can't beat it ,it's a beautiful axe, anyway one day hopefully keep up the good work Buckin and hi to all the friends on the channel and hello to all new comers

Buckin', when you mentioned the famous "Tasmanian Pattern", my thoughts immediately went to my mothers' family who were indeed timber cutters from Tasmania who migrated to the New South Wales south coast. They used this pattern to great effect cutting sleepers (I think you call them railway ties) under contract to the state railways. They were massive axes starting from about 4 lbs to about 7 lbs. Imagine swinging that one all day. As a child I remember when my parents were visiting my G. Uncle and he was preparing his weapons for the following week. Huge axes and cross cut saws all polished to a mirror shine. He would have been in his late 50's then, but still enjoyed getting out into the forest and swinging the steel as he called it.

You are a fair and good man who helps those of us who need a reason to smile once in a while! Thank you for that!! I have been meaning to ask you if there is a way to tell what kind of weather a tree has been thru by the way the rings may look different from one another? I'm from upper Wisconsin and my uncle kept a few slices of oak he told us had a ring missing from when we had a very late thaw that ran into a very early freeze which showed up as a wider ring than the others so the trees essentially skipped a ring that year. He was a joking man, my uncle and u always wondered if he was joshing!? Thank you for the show, U tube needed this, to bad it took so long for me to find it. I've always been a late bloomer tho. Peace
