Seriously... that was insane. Back when Trivial Pursuit was popular, we had one friend who just took forever answering questions. He'd ponder and ponder, as if the answer was suddenly gonna come to him. But every now and then, it did. So he might be in the tank for five full minutes, we finally call the clock on him. "5... 4...3... 2..." "Oh! It's Henry Cabot Lodge!" "Dude, WTF"
That sounds impossible. I liked the one where Jolly deleted the 2020's, though, that was cool, so I like changing it up a little. There's definitely some room for innovation.
@@themightydewthat’s the crazy part. He really only played 14 seasons and is still 4th all time at first base. If he had not had his issues with arthritis and ended up playing till he was 40 he would have had 500 homeruns and near 100 war. That would make him a household name but your right, the early retirement makes it to where people just don’t think of him enough.
He’s actually 6th in war atleast on baseball reference. It goes Gehrig, pujols, cap anson, Jimmie foxx, Roger Connor, and then bagwell. Anson and Connor did play in the 1800’s so I understand not including them. Johnny mize would likely be 5th if he didn’t miss 3+ seasons due to ww2 though.
I know, I knew immediately on both bagwell and pudge. Bagwell had his shoulder issues in 04 and 05 plus he didn't hit well in the world series at DH/PH. So I think if you are under 40 or so he's not remembered as the MVP who was a 5 war guy or close for 11 years straight. Also he's a big walks guy and that's value no one remembers who isn't a fan of his team.
@@maxbolon3143thanks for the correction. The website I used to fact check didn’t include Anson or Connor so it must’ve only been showing me live-ball era guys.
I love that I throw fun throwback names like DeWayne Wise and Travis Lee out there for some fun and some of you guys get mad lmaoo have some fun and enjoy the video guys haha!
I couldn’t think of the Ranger but I knew it was Bagwell immediately. Seems like a lot of people don’t realize that he was a lot more than a power hitter.
Which is crazy because he and Biggio almost completely overlapped. Did those two extra years at the end for Biggio really leave that big of an impression?
it always suprirses me to find out Biggio played 6 more years than Bagwell did because Bagwell leads in everything for the Astros. Pudge for Texas was the hard part to that question
Got Carlos Lee not looking at the screen just hearing the first person list the team names. 10 seconds without looking I knew the answer, no lies. He was so good. Unforgettable
I think Pudge played for so long and for so many other teams that it's insanely easy to forget he played 13 years for Texas. Not to mention literally all of his team success coming elsewhere
Should do an episode similar to this, on guys who have played in the same state on ALL teams of/in SAID state (any state) Might be tough to find players that fit the mold but I think that’d be cool
Forgot Wandy was a Ranger . Watched him a lot vs and with the Pirates as they are my second team (Go Guardians) . But the rest of the page made sense for him. And that Trivia question was hard as hell. I like it we need more hard players as well and trivia.
Can't believe the Astros WAR leader wasn't anyone's first guess, while he had big traditional counting stat numbers my understanding has always been that advanced metrics have always rated him even higher
The trivia question should have been easy for the Astros half but the Rangers half is a bit harder since they don’t have any guy who has just played their entire career there. I think if they thought it through a little more or thought about how much people were saying Bagwell needed to be in the hall of fame before he got in they would have got it. Lack of seasons but he was a monster. One of the highest in war at first base despite only playing 15 seasons (really 14, his last season he barely played) The Rangers is hard because their three big guys Pudge, Palmeiro, and Beltre each only played roughly half their career in Texas. So just knowing who was there the longest off the top of your head is the hard part. I got the Ranger part wrong because I was just guessing at who was there long enough. All great guys though.
I had Bagwell and Pudge right away. I'm surprised Jake was the only one to mention him. I think people forget about Bagwell's speed as well. He was a total package player really. Had a gold glove. Won an MVP. Played basically his whole career in Houston and was absolutely scary to face in any of those years really. .948 career OPS.
Great last question. I also thought Biggio because I figured the position difference between a C/2B vs. 1B would make him some stealth choice. Texas is a tough one no matter what because there are so few players who stayed there for a long time. All of the best Rangers had a lot of quality years elsewhere: A-Rod, Pudge, Gonzalez, Palmeiro, Buddy Bell, Beltre. I guessed Juan Gone simply because it feels like he tailed off soon after he left. Looks like his glove lowered his value, though.
Blind guesses before starting the vid. Easy: Nolan Ryan Medium: Carlos Gomez Hard: Richard Hidalgo 1/3 isn’t bad, would’ve loved to see Gomez and Hidalgo get some refguess love though
I snapped off the trivia question immediately, not that I would have gotten to the trivia round _(I was with Shelfy at 1 point)._ I thought Bagwell was the easy choice for the Astros. Biggio was quite good for a long time, but wasn't an amazing defensive 2B, whereas Bagwell was an absolute monster during the peak of his career and was _also_ in Houston forever. Pudge also seemed like the clear winner over Gonzalez. They both moved on after like 10 years or so, and while Juan Gone was a better masher, he was also a terrible defender _(somehow; he was fast so I'm not sure why he was so bad),_ while Pudge was an all-time great defensive catcher while also being an excellent hitter.
Can't believe how much they struggled with the trivia question. I thought both answers were pretty obvious - especially the Rangers one. Nobody but Jake even thought of him.
Bagwell was my first guess for the Astros just because he hit, stole bases and was decent defensively. Pudge was on my mind but i didn't think he played long enough in just Texas. That was a fun one
@@voncornhole Juan Gonzalez was pretty close to a lifer for them. Yeah he wasnt great defensively but he was the first to come to my mind then Pudge then Beltre
part of me was really hoping there would be a jordan lyles because people forget he was a 1st rounder for the astros in 08 and started his career there
As a Rangers fan living in Texas this one was super easy, even the trivia round. Bit surprising to see nobody got the trivia, especially Dalton after he dominated this category last year. Anyways, I'm still going to request a 90s All-Star round like I do every week.
Remembering the 2012 trade deadline video came in clutch today. Someday I'd like to see a ref guess where all 3 players are from the same trade tree. Ex: Randy Johnson, Freddy Garcia, Micheal Morse.
For someone born in 99 in Kansas City I have weird recollection of Carlos lee in a brewers uniform hittin dongs. Remembering him as a stro makes sense but I was 6 for his Milwaukee days. How tf do I remember that?😂😂

Jake blind guessing Carlos Lee. Jake is HIM
Thinking of 31 career home run hitter DeWayne Wise when looking at Carlos Lee's stat page is hilarious
Also thinking Jermaine Dye wasn't close to Carlos Lee in home runs lol
Jake blind guessing 2 in a row is wild
You guys should try creating fake baseball reference pages and get the guys to guess whether it's a real player or not.

I think that his drastic/fast decline puts him out of people's thoughts.

Just wanted to say Jolly you're doing a great job hosting these 😊

Dalton started butchering White Sox lore at 5:16.

DeWayne Wise? Did Dalton make a bet he'd work his name into this ep?
Right? If you told me Wise even had anywhere near 100 home runs in his career I wouldn't believe you.

It's a famous thing by this point that Bagwell was significantly better than Biggio even if Biggio was more iconic. I'm shocked no one get him right.
Mo Vaughn might be the worst guess of all time considering he played for both Boston and the Mets, and the Angels.. None of those teams were listed
