I'm so happy for you, brother! Our stories are similar. My father went to Laos with others in 1989. Not to rescue his comrades from the Lao jungle, but deceived by the Hmong politics of 1975. My father was wise and clever, but not smart. He could not return after the Ban Vinai refugee camp closed in 1992. My mother took us to the United States. He was trapped in the Lao jungle for 17 years, hunted day and night by the Lao government. Most of the people who went with him either died or escaped to Thailand. My father surrendered to the Lao government in 2005. I went to visit him in 2006, pretending to be a relative studying in Vientiane, and tuaj tham hluas nkauj hauv nws lub zos. He did not recognize me as his son. I stayed in a hotel for a week, but visited him every day, took him out, bought him things, and then I told him that I was his son from the United States. The son he left to die in the refugee camp. All he said to me was "I'm sorry". I wanted to cry, but I held back my tears. I also told him. After he left us, my brothers and sisters, six of us. We survived by eating rats, spiders and dirt. Our mother almost died of malnutrition. But, thank God! We were able to come to the US. After I told him I was his son, I stayed with him in his hut for a week and left without saying goodbye. He passed away in 2009.
What an emotional story. Thank you for sharing that with us. Lmk if you want me to share your story someday. I would love to.
So proud of you brother, the most amazing thing ever is you met your family and loved one like your dad, I can’t help my tears every single minute I watch your videos, my family back to Laos. God bless you all
Thank you brother
So happy you were able to visit your Father again. I have family back in Laos I've never even met. This is truly the joy that every Father wants.
That's why I want to capture all these so someway somehow I can inspire others to find their love ones and reunite with them.
You look just like your dad. Enjoy your time there bro.
Thank you, I will
To be honest, I cried watching your first meeting with your Dad!!! I’m glad that you can still visit him…
Thank you
Fathers and their sons.
Bet he's beyond proud of how you've turned out. Old school parents, especially dads that have gone through hell and back, aren't great with showing emotions, so when that little side of softness comes out from them, it's because they couldn't contain it any longer. Happy for you bro.
My pops never said that he was proud of us, but the words he relayed to his friends, and those around him, made us realize that he was brimming with pride of how his children turned out. I bet he's singing about you all day. It takes a little bit to understand old school parents.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story. I still have an older brother in Thailand that I want to go and surprise him someday too.
Go for it!
Did your mom ever remarry? It's always good to spent time with your love ones.

Very similar to my grandpa's story. My dad's dad went to the war and never returned. Then, my dad was still a young teenager. Ua Tsaug, koj tseem los qhia koj txiv rau peb os. Back in HS, I've only met your mom and siblings. I remember, when you took me to roller town. You raced a kid and your wheels broke off and the other kid won. It was an incredible fun time. Memories forever.
Man why you make you me miss my Dad so much.
Sorry

The best gift brother. I'm looking forward to meeting my birth parents this July as well. They gave me to my uncle when I was born. I am 23 now. I don't know how it's going to be, but I can feel like that emptiness inside of me will finally be fulfill. I am happy to see you and your father reunited. Nothing can replace that, EVER!
Thank you. Wishing you the best
Just remember they gave you away to have a better life. Good luck.
Happy families, happy life
Thank you for sharing such a personal part of your life with us. To hear about with happened with your family because there was no way of communication back then made me sad but then to see that your father is doing great makes me feel a lot better. Wow I’m so happy for you 😢😢 during this period there’s a lot of pain and sadness for those that has gone through the secret war 😢😢 but your one of the lucky ones who ended with a very special and rich ending 😊😊 treasure your time with your father and your siblings because life is too short. I watched your story back in 2018 and cried my eyes out because I wish mines would have been a happy reunion like yours 😊😊
What a bitter sweet moment.
Brother good to see ur father. Me. I have not see my father 45 years now. I miss him. My mom took me to usa 1988.
Have you thought about going back to reunite with him?
I am so happy for you. In 1988, my father also went back to Laos to help bring more Hmong to Thai and also disappeared. Few said he was shot but his body was never found. I still hope one day someone will call and claim to be a step sibling or family member uniting us with our Dad.
Prayers and hoping you will find him someday
