A true Canadian Legend, thank you for the music and memories...RIP Robbie...🙏
The Last Waltz is a must watch.
Happy Thanksgiving!
"This film should be played loud!"
The name of the game is cutthroat!
The best gig ever recorded? Definitely up there.
In the early 60s Toronto RnR scene, Robbie was "The Man". Every guitar player loved and tried to emulate his playing style and sound. He was our legend. RIP Robbie
Canada is proud of Robbie and Paul Shaffer, Letterman's musical director. RIP Robbie.
One of the greatest songwriters and guitarists of all time. RIP, Robbie. The world is a better place because you lived in it.
Great writer, Wordsmith, and Storyteller.
Losing both Robbie Robertson and Sixto Rodriguez today is so very sad, but Robbie lived such an incredible life, filled with creativity and success, and he gave so much to so many. Rodriguez had a very different life, but received the recognition he deserved in his later years having lived a 'normal' life after his career appeared (to him, if not the people of South Africa!) to have petered out...what a story! RIP to both of these wonderful souls, and thank you to those running this channel for these lovely tributes to both men.
Oh no, Sixto too! I didn't know. I'm reading it first from you right now. What a drag of a day. What a drag of a year - David Crosby, Tina Turner, Gordon Lightfoot, and so many others ...
Rip Jaime Royal Robertson, you will truly be missed
Only Garth left of The Band makes me so sad. Music From Big Pink to The Last Waltz are the best of the best. What a great loss.
It's not that life is short.
It's that the moments that comprise it are.
and Schuyler Pryor
The Band one of the greatest bands in music history. Robbie Robertson was a a magnificent songwriter and musician. BIG loss RIP RR
We have lost a great and important musician. Thank you so much for your fantastic music, Robbie. Rest in peace
All comedic things aside, Dave understood how important these artists were to us as a society, and as folks who just need shelter from the storm. Thanks so much to Dave and Paul who brought so many to the forefront for us and them! Love On Ya!😍🤩😎
Storyville- maybe the most underrated album of all time. R.i.p. robbie. It was a good day to die.
What a great guy. True legend, his music will live forever.
For my dough Robbie Robertson was amongst other things the coolest guy in Rock and Roll ..EVER ! My heart is broken ...RIP !
Poured a whiskey and watched The Last Waltz and raised a glass to Robbie R.I.P.
better have a whiskey so i'll feel alright....road food...
I love the way he was telling anecdotes, stories, he was good at that, of course excellent musician. Another legend is gone, it doesn’t seem to stop lately…
R.I.P. Robbie!! Thank you for the music.
RIP Robbie 🙏 Never forgotten
Rest In Heaven, Robbie 🙏🏻
What an Icon!! I love Robbie's music! His 1st solo album is one of my top 10 all time favorites! RIP Robbie.
The list of songs Robbie Robertson was responsible for is incredible. I loved the Band having grown up in the 70's. Robbie had an entire career working with Martin Scorsese & writing/producing music for the many incredible films Scorsese made. RIP Robbie. These losses are getting so much harder.😢
We are at that age when we are losing a lot of musicians we grew up listening to. But this one hit HARD! I was at a music festival this weekend and there was a lot of The Band songs being played! RIP Robbie 💔
Robbie. A legend. Met him a few times. But will always remember talking with him on the side of the stage at a Van Morrison show! RIP 👏🏼
Always seemed like a great guy. And a fellow Canadian too.
So were you two BFFs or are you just FOS? Or just basing your comment on what others have said. 😘. And now the fact he’s Canadian? Are you shallow or what?
R.I.P. Robbie thank you for the music.
One of the greatest American rock bands was 4/5th Canadian
One of the coolest, most interesting dudes ever.
From an R.H. King alumni and fellow Scarberian, I bid you a fond farewell. Thank you for the soundtrack to my life. R.I.P Robbie.
"Acadian driftwood,
Gypsy tailwind
They call my home,
The land of snow
Canadian cold front,
Movin' in
What a way to ride,
Oh what a way to go"
Mind blown. I had no idea he went to King. Cheers for the trivia from an R.H. King drop out.
Scarborough H.S. back when he went. My dad was Ron 'Robbie' Robertson too, but 86 if he were alive. Grew up on Eastville Ave.
Both Toronto legends.
Thanks letterman channel for keeping on your toes with your celebrity obituary channel
If Robbie Robertson had done nothing more with his life than write these three songs, the weight, Up On Cripple Creek, and The Night They Drove Old Dixie down, then both he and the band belong in the folk Hall of Fame the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and any other Hall of Fame that celebrates enduring music that moved millions and millions of people. I just wish that folk music would come back the way it was. Now, generations of people have missed some of the greatest music ever produced.
What a class act
Great performance
Another underrated musician
What a wonderful performance and interview
I saw Bob Dylan backed by the Hawks in early 1966 and some people in the audience booed Dylan but they were few and far between...obviously they didn't realize that Dylan was writing about them when he wrote "The Times They Are A-Changin'"..
More like...
SOMETHING IS HAPPENING...
BUT YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS
DO YOU MR JONES?
RIP Robbie Robertson.
Canadian National Pride!
I recall this performance on TV during its repeat in 1993 and wisely taped it for posterity.
you were or are wise...i'm only seeing it now.
Robbie was always so well dressed...
Well respected was he. I saw him at a speech for his book . Humbling night. Ripeace
Awesome, his book is a must-read.
The Indian that rocked the World. Thanks for your gift of music, Robbie Robertson. Rest In Peace, Haudenosaunee.
some folks may not realize that Robbie and Paul Schaeffer were part of the late 60's early 70's music scene in Toronto. 2 Canucks working together here.
I saw Robbie in Victoria bc when he was promoting his book very down to earth person RIP
What a great Legend Robbie Robertson Rest In Peace. Love from Adam.
Now, that is pretty awesome. That's good music!
Even in his fifties he had that killer smile that lits up the whole room.
Thanks Don...this one hurt
RIP Robbie ❤️🇨🇦
Legendary
I loved the song he did with Ulali. ( heartbeat song) very good artist. RIP 🙏
They got another one? Man, the jam. The jam ... Peace out my brother ... 🇨🇦
Robbie's voice. Omg. Its like when he starts the story you kinda wanna say Robbie wait, let me get a whisky and a cigarette and listen to you.
RIP, RR....I believe Daniel Lanois will continue to carry your torch...
LOving the fretless bass, fun to look back and see bands so tight.
Devilishly Handsome Voice of an Angel .
Rick was my favorite singer from The Band, good looking as well. Robbie was not known for his singing voice when he was with The Band, he left that to Richard, Levon and Rick. However, great songwriter, storyteller, and guitarist, (you can't have it all) and yes good looking, especially when he was young, beautiful eyes and his smile lits up the room.
Please put up Robbie Robertson's performance of "Ghost Dance" on the Late Show in November 1994
RIP Robbie Robertson.
So sad.
Eddie Van Halen always reminded me of Robbie Robertson in their looks. RIP to both great music men. 💔💔
Paul is sounding very Garth on that organ! RIP Robbie.
Style in the 80s and early 90s was something else. :)
‘Peyote Healing’ 🧡
The dance of the backing singers is almost biblical in its stupidity, which makes this clip even more marvellous and fun. Godspeed Robbie. ❤
love the New Orleans-style ending...
I finally saw Dylan in 2007 when he toured with Elvis Costello. He played his hits to a country-western theme. I always wondered if he was trying to get a rise from the audience, but no one booed.
Costello was worth seeing tho.
There were 70s supergroups....then there was the Band.
That's a great song.
Excellent.
RIP Robbie
Beautiful Song by a great author and musician like Robbie Robertson Ty for your art🙏 I see John Lennon on guitar back Robertson...😁
The Basement Tapes!
Huge loss to music! 💔😢I’ve played music on Six Nations reserve // Thank you Robbie for everything! RIP
The time's come for me to finish investigating all of Robbie Robertson's solo work.
Minnesota's Bob Dylan (Zimmerman) was an excellent judge of talent. He somehow found the best rock a billy band in Canada and hired them.
Dylan sang the times they are a changin..but his fans couldn't handle change...
His soul in Indigenous, glad he embraced it.
Look at that CD box.
That was neat!
Cool story bro!
Vale Robbie Robertson 😢 RIP
RIP Jaime
They booed because it was Dylan...
Nobody booed the Band!
The booed Dyland and the band when they were his back up band, When they went out on their own they were not booed.
Robbie is so beautiful.
No one captured the sound of Americana like The Band. There music sounded like folk, or bluegrass music from 50 years earlier. Ironic that 4 of the 5 were Canadian. RIP Robby. I believe Garth Hudson is the only member left.
Too bad Letterman went so fast and ended this interview quick, he obviously didn't respect or know who Robbie Robertson was nor appreciated him. Robbie Robertson, I wish I could sit down with him, hear the stories and just talk about everything. God bless Robbie Robertson ❤️ God bless
There are plenty of clips on Utube of more lengthy interviews with Robbie. Also if you a fan of The Band I recommend reading Robbie's book Testimony. Fascinating read, not only about The Band, but the sixties into the mid seventies, my generation.
If the Letterman channel puts up an old celebrity video it means they're toast. 💀⚰
Que pena y que tristeza la muerte de Robbie.
RIP
I’ve got a fever…and the only prescription is more choreography!
Title of the video is kind of misleading. I thought he was going to get booed here. Obviously not the case. I everyone knows that they booed when they went electric....
Disappointing headline. I was expecting Dylan to be on stage at the Letterman show. Instead, Robbie tells of touring with Dylan when he went electric and was not well-received.
I guess Robbie Robertson can sing
Yes he can. If you haven't listen to his solo LP's.
not sure about this but, Dylan was fronted by Paul Butterfield members inclusive of Michael Bloomfield prior to engaging Robbie & Co. ...July 1965 @ Newport Folk Festival...I wasn't there to know all that was going on as was Robbie was, just saying
Robbie can't sing a lick but what a writer and guitar player...just don't let him handle the business side because he will take credit ..all of it😂😂
What a loss... 😢
Rip
Only the good die young. Does 80 qualify ???
John Mayer influence...
Seems like it. Is that really true?
dude owed everything to Levon Helm
I loved Levon Helm's work, was even fortunate enough to meet and speak with him when he played with the Cate brothers, but you have it backwards. Without Robertson's songs, Levon may not have even been known of.
@@buddymaxwell6881 you don't know anything about Levon Helm
@@stephenedgecock Well, I listened to him for almost 50 years, including solo albums, read his book, sat with him and talked about mandolins for 15 minutes, but other than that, I guess compared to being a close personal friend to him like I guess you were, maybe I know nothing. Now go bother someone else please.
Instrumentation and production trends can ruin otherwise good songs.
I did not know he passed away I apologize totally I apologize I did not know he passed away maybe got injected maybe the exposure to atmospheric aluminum smog combined with unfiltered municipal water supply and or glyphosate saturated into all the carbohydrates subsequently fed to all the livestock in industrial farming this means death to anyone and the organic food supplies are so expensive you have to be Bob Dylan to afford them.
@@davidruland5519 let the Jim Jones jab grip the low gross domestic product into a Holocaust just like TV (Pronounced TB) gach Yo BRAINZ. If the political climate is not stabilised in yo colony. You will be saying all is well all is well like Kevin Bacon from animal house. the movie.
When they told everybody they were gonna get nice warm water showers then they gassed them all to death.low GDP. Wheel barrels full of money to buy a loaf of bread.
Now you all know why Ro bid didn’t sing for The Band🤷🏼♀️
He can't sing. Sorry. 😮
He should have been. He’s the most overrated “musician” in history. David Crosby a not too distant 2nd.
If only he had written on The Cleveland Show instead...
@@keithbarry3057 yeah sure two first names. Whatever the f that is. Is that some pseudo intellectual way of inferring a lack of intelligence? I read skippy. Try it and try again.
Yeah, sure. Dylan and Scorsese are known for working with "overrated" people. lol
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH hold on sparky. The other members are phenomenal. Just Robbie and his double neck guitar. 😂.
So basically you’re a sheep. Your intellect is based on what others say or do. Hahaha. 😘
Would you two lads feel better if I said most overrated front man? Didn’t mean to get your panties in a bunch.
In 1966 when i was 15, I was at my first Dylan concert here in Perth in Western Australia. I had already come across Dylan's earlier LPs. Had just bought Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61. Australia had just gone from the British currency to the dollar. My ticket cost $5. The show consisted of the first half of Dylan playing his well known so g's with just guitar and harmonica.
Second half he was backed by the Hawks. Later the Band. So I was very fortunate. Robbie Robertson on guitar. There was some audience booing, but Dylan stood his ground. The thing I recal is him playing songs like Visions of Johanna ( acoustically) which was very well received because the " Folkies" though it was a new acoustic piece. Little knowing it was already recorded on Blonde on Blonde, as a full on electric track, which no one here had yet heard. Shows how shallow people can be.
RIP
