Cheryl is great. She was the first British female solo singer to have five #1 singles in the UK.
This is definitely not her best song. I would suggest Parachute, Fight For This Love, 3 Words, Promise This or Crazy Stupid Love as an introduction to her catalogue.

Calvin Harris produced this track, and you can definitely hear his influence. Cheryl isn’t exactly the best vocalist live, but I will admit that this song was a bop at the time it was released.
Give the man the credit: He wrote it. The vocals are layered in parts with the other producer Kuk Harell. This is similar in CH production to Kylie's Too Much from the Aphrodite album.

For some very catchy, often quite unique British girl pop, listen to the group Cheryl was in before (and after) she went solo: Girls Aloud. They were together from 2002 to 2013, with various breaks/solo albums from members in the later years. Cheryl has had the most successful solo career, but she’s generally regarded as the 4th or 5th best singer in the group. But Girls Aloud had very quirky, memorable hits working mostly w producers Xenomania. See Sound of the Underground, No Good Advice, Love Machine, Biology (almost like 4 separate songs put together), Call the Shots, Something Kind of Oooh, Sexy No No No… Best singers: Nadine Coyle and, especially toward the end, Nicola Roberts.

Each to their own and whatever floats your boat and all that. As an intro to Cheryl this is not the best choice of song. As Derek says in his reaction, the music smothers/obscures the overly-layered vocals and all that he ends up being able to comment on are the EDM beats, the evident Calvin Harris sound, Cheryl's very obvious sex appeal and her ability to dance. You hear an 'absolute power banger', whilst I hear an overproduced, slightly catchy and dated mess. Loved it at the time though.

If you're interested in song structure check out some Girls Aloud songs. The pop group Cheryl was in. They have some strange (but catchy) ones, particularly Biology, The Show, Something Kinda Ooh, Something New.... and loads more, they had a lot of hits, and a lot of great album tracks.

I watched it. "Pretty well" isn't what you expect from a singer from a worldwide selling group, and it is at best, very average. She certainly has nowhere near the level of talent to have the right to judge artists on singing competitions because most of them blow her off the map. She's just so, so average at best.
@@lamusiclover2264 Well i can't disagree, i should have elaborated she pulled it off pretty well considering her vocal ability, i guess my bias is because i come from the same part of England as her, but there are many artists out there who have no more vocal ability than Cheryl & are way more successful, Jennifer Lopez is prime example & i think it just confounds the fact that being a great singer does not equate with success, her looks & personality are what sells her.
@@MichaelPayne1374 I agree with what you're saying. And I think that personality and charisma certainly count for something. And Cheryl's case, I don't really see much personality or charisma, but you're more familiar with her because you come from the UK and I have to respect that. It's very clear these days that being a great or even good singer has nothing to do with becoming a star. So many performers today are auto-tuned to death, are unable to perform live and lip sync everything they do. How people can become enamored with performers like that who have absolutely no talent is beyond me, when there are so many stars in the making out there who have incredible talent.
@@lamusiclover2264 I think you are absolutely correct in what you say (especially about potential stars who are yet to receive any kind of recognition), for me a good song, cleverly produced can give the illusion of a talented artist, when in reality it's just a catchy or well written song, on the other side of the coin there are many talented singers whose songs just don't move me in any way, so i think first & foremost the songs are the most important factor, it doesn't matter how talented a vocalist you are or performer, if the songs are crap then it's going nowhere & i ain't buying your song.
