What impresses me most about Sam and what I think makes him a true Beast, is not his strength, because his exoskeleton covers that for him. It's *his speed* and *reaction time* that makes him absolutely insane. It isn't even from cybernetics, it's just from pure Brazilian blood and brain.
I mean, speed can also be covered by his exoskeleton, since it enhances his giant thigh muscles and his arms to strike more rapidly, but his reaction time is indeed superhuman. He can block attacks even cyborgs have a hard time parrying, only with his bare eyes.
The ironic part is both Sam and Vergil share the same Japanese Voice Actor: Hiroaki Hirata(Sanji/Pip Bernadotte/Kotetsu T. Kaburagi/Balthier/Tyson Maeda/Godot)
Note: this ignores the fact Vergil already had demonic super strength. From what i see, Sam is reliant on powerful charged up strike attacks that stun targets rendering them vulnerable for the next attack. By comparison, Vergil technique focus more on multiple strikes delivered in a single moment. If Nero ever took up Samurai skill, somehow, i had a feeling he'll lean more towards Sam's playstyle.
Sam in the DLC is NOT a Cyborg and he's pulling Vergil like feats off, he's probably the peak physical condition of a human being. makes sense considering he survived Brazil.

Sam's swagger in his animation is definitely more appealing than even Dante's. I dont know. It just feels so natural when Sam does it since it almost makes him seem like a real person.

If you want to know why I tell you that question are because there are few animation resemble a dash properties with added hitbox. Such as quickplay abilities by V & shadow and first hit from dance macabre by dante, for example.

No. Vergil has more raw power and is pretty skilled, but Sam only have his skill, and still comes out on top against physically superior enemies.

In terms of gameplay, yes. In terms of lore, well, an absolute NO. According to the lore, Yamato not only can cut through space and time, but also becomes deadlier in the hands of a solar system level being which moves faster than light. So even if Sam survived in Brazil, he cannot canonically defeat Vergil.

We do know that he trained a little when he was younger with Sparda and Dante, but before he even had 8 years, which is not much. After the attack on their mansion, Vergil could only survive not because of training, but because he awoke his demonic power. Now Sam, we do know that his family has, supposedly, samurai/noble ties in Feudal Japan, since they have a Muramasa sword, and when they migrated to Brazil with the same sword, their kenjutsu style was also brought and developed here. The "Rodrigues New Shadow School" is a style of kenjutsu using the Uradachi style mixed with martial arts, like capoeira, judo and brazilian jiu-jitsu. He also was trained since a toddler by his father, sensei and master of the Rodrigues Dojo and style, and also was trained in different martial arts that was incorporated in the kenjutsu techniques. Even before the cybernetics were mainstream and without the exosuit, he take out a mafia hit squad of 10 members, all armed with automatic rifles and Sam only with his sword, all by himself. And by the looks of it, Sam is too among 30-40 years old too. And no, the ability of moving at light speed does not mean that he's a better swordsman, and Vergil can only do that by using his demonic power/blood, which is basically magic. We aren't judging who is stronger, faster or who would win in a fight, just who is a better swordsman. Imagine that: It's like a duel between Miyamoto Musashi, a legendady swordsman, and someone like Superman. Superman would easily win in a fight, with or without a sword, simply because nothing that Musashi could do would harm Superman, and Superman is a million times stronger and faster, not because of training, but because of his kryptonian blood. Superman is a better swordsman than Musashi because of his victory, even without any single minute of training with swords? No, he's only much physically superior because he's a alien with godly powers by birth. If you put Musashi in a even ground with Superman (by stripping Superman of his power with a red sun, for instance, or giving kryptonian powers to Musashi, and in case of the latter, both using a blade made with a alloy of kryptonite) and then we do a sword duel between the two, probably Musashi would win because he's absolutely more skilled than Superman in swordfighting, and now in a even ground, his skill is highlighted above the difference in power level between the two in the previous scenario. So, Sam can do all that extraordinary stuff despite being only a human with a exosuit, with reaction speed and skills that far surpass pretty much any other human in the Metal Gear series, not only his skills are comparable and even greater than full cyborgs and entire Metal Gears, but they are comproved with actual in-game sources like training in actual kenjutsu dojo, capoeira and judo/jiu-jitsu. Not only that, but comproved experience by working in the entire world as a bodyguard, cleaner for the mob, vigilante, etc. While Vergil can do most of what he does by simply having demon blood from the greatest warrior of the Underworld, Sparda. Even Dante and Nero, with (apparently) no actual experience in kenjutsu or kendo, could do impressive feats like cutting a entire building miles away with some swings with Yamato, besides, Yamato is a magical weapon with demonic power itself that enhances the user. So yes, I think Vergil would win in a fight, but I don't think he is a better swordsman than Sam.

Sam is not overpowered, but skilled character with major advantage being his sword. He tries to look like a bigger threat than he is. Vergil is an absurdly overpowered character with major advantage being his sword. He is as much of an threat as he looks.
Sam is one of the if not THE strongest 100% human characters I've ever seen. No enhancements, no magic, just pure Brazilian genes and samurai training. However add anyone with similar skill with a blade and the supernatural powers he lacks and he ain't holding a candle in a 1v1 for long, but holding it for the few seconds he gets.

just a correction: Dante and Vergil didnt surpass Sparda yet. They both together are stronger,but we know that they work together isnt the easiest thing to happen. But by themselves they arent.

In terms of gameplay, yes. In terms of lore, well, an absolute NO. According to the lore, Yamato not only can cut through space and time, but also becomes deadlier in the hands of a solar system level being which moves faster than light. So even if Sam survived in Brazil, he cannot canonically defeat Vergil.
@@gannielukks1811 that is also incorrect, Vergil is 43 years old and trained with the sword since he was a toddler, and for worse, he is a master in hand to hand combat and on all type of weapons, so he is more experienced and definitely a better swordsman (Vergil moves faster than light without using magic)

We do know that he trained a little when he was younger with Sparda and Dante, but before he even had 8 years, which is not much. After the attack on their mansion, Vergil could only survive not because of training, but because he awoke his demonic power. After that, we don't have any clue where he trained, if it was self-taught or not, or anything.
Now Sam, we do know that his family has, supposedly, samurai/noble ties in Feudal Japan, since they have a Muramasa sword, and when they migrated to Brazil with the same sword, their kenjutsu style was also brought and developed here. The "Rodrigues New Shadow School" is a style of kenjutsu using the Uradachi style mixed with martial arts, like capoeira, judo and brazilian jiu-jitsu. He also was trained since a toddler by his father, sensei and master of the Rodrigues Dojo and style, and also was trained in different martial arts that was incorporated in the kenjutsu techniques. Even before the cybernetics were mainstream and without the exosuit, he take out a mafia hit squad of 10 members, all armed with automatic rifles and Sam only with his sword, all by himself. Even being only a human, his reaction speed and speed scales with high-end cyborgs and enhanced beings with nanomachines, and he can, even without his sword, go toe to toe with a armed Raiden, by aplying his martial art skills. He has legendary skill in swordsmanship, many different martial arts, many military weapons like rocket launchers and grenades, perhaps even rifles (since his scabbard is based on a rifle).
And by the looks of it, Sam is too among 30-40 years old too.
And no, the ability of moving at light speed does not mean that he's a better swordsman, and Vergil can only do that by using his demonic power/blood, which is basically magic.
We aren't judging who is stronger, faster or who would win in a fight, just who is a better swordsman. Imagine that: It's like a duel between Miyamoto Musashi, a legendady swordsman, and someone like Superman. Superman would easily win in a fight, with or without a sword, simply because nothing that Musashi could do would harm Superman, and Superman is a million times stronger and faster, not because of training, but because of his kryptonian blood. Superman is a better swordsman than Musashi because of his victory, even without any single minute of training with swords? No, he's only much physically superior because he's a alien with godly powers by birth.
If you put Musashi in a even ground with Superman (by stripping Superman of his power with a red sun, for instance, or giving kryptonian powers to Musashi, and in case of the latter, both using a blade made with a alloy of kryptonite) and then we do a sword duel between the two, probably Musashi would win because he's absolutely more skilled than Superman in swordfighting, and now in a even ground, his skill is highlighted above the difference in power level between the two in the previous scenario.
So, Sam can do all that extraordinary stuff despite being only a human with a exosuit, with reaction speed and skills that far surpass pretty much any other human in the Metal Gear series, not only his skills are comparable and even greater than full cyborgs and entire Metal Gears, but they are comproved with actual in-game sources like training in actual kenjutsu dojo, capoeira and judo/jiu-jitsu. Not only that, but comproved experience by working in the entire world as a bodyguard, cleaner for the mob, vigilante, etc. While Vergil can do most of what he does by simply having demon blood from the greatest warrior of the Underworld, Sparda. Even Dante and Nero, with (apparently) no actual experience in kenjutsu or kendo, could do impressive feats like cutting a entire building miles away with some swings with Yamato, besides, Yamato is a magical weapon with demonic power itself that enhances the user.
So yes, I think Vergil would win in a fight, but I don't think he is a better swordsman than Sam.

That's why I think Sam's character is even greater. He's actually weaker than most of his enemies, but absolutely more skilled than everyone.
Sam is one of the if not THE strongest 100% human characters I've ever seen. No enhancements, no magic, just pure Brazilian genes and samurai training. However add anyone with similar skill with a blade and the supernatural powers he lacks and he ain't holding a candle in a 1v1 for long, but holding it for the few seconds he gets.
