    snake lost at the character select screen. Its really really hard to beat someone like daigo or momochi with a grappler. They are just too perfect with minimizing your options to get in. Evil ryu was maybe a better choice but he would never beat daigo in a mirror there either.

    this event settles it... Snake Eyez is the best United States SF4 player, period. You can all still ride your Smug hype or Strider or whoever, but Snake has been nothing but consistent in his wins. He may not be god tier level like Daigo, Xian, Infiltration etc, but he's damn close.

    snake is a good player. but daigo is god in sf

    • @lYakuzal
      @lYakuzal Před 8 lety +9

      Indeed, but Snake Eyez can definitely go toe-to-toe with Daigo if we go with player skill alone. Sadly, Evil Ryu just has better normals and can control the neutral game easily, while Zangief does not have a single option that will lead him to get close. Very easy win for Daigo and a great example of how match-ups can be the ultimatum for victory or defeat

    • @kumikones
      @kumikones Před 8 lety +9

      +lYakuzal Except SnakeEyez's Zangief bodies plenty of Evil Ryus. You can't pretend that Daigo was not playing pretty well here just because of the match-up. Also, saying that SnakeEyez couldn't win because it's Evil Ryu is also understating his skill as a Zangief player.

    • @lYakuzal
      @lYakuzal Před 8 lety +2

      Match-ups are determined when both characters are to be played perfectly to their strengths, so in a way it doesn't account for player skill. Either way, I haven't seen any player that plays Evil Ryu solidly and perfectly as Daigo, Xiaohai and Sako can, and Snake Eyez always has trouble playing against their Evil Ryu's.
      Daigo always plays exceptionally well in every match, but match-ups in games like SF4 can determine how much effort is required to beat a certain character. In this case, Evil Ryu just has to establish a tight defense with fireballs, roundhouses and DPs that keeps Zangief away, and that requires very little risk and effort. On the other hand, Zangief has to play patient and jump in at the right precise moment, but every decision he makes is risky. Even if he was able to get in, he would have to make a couple of hard reads on the mix-ups and against Daigo that is extremely hard to do. Not to also mention that Zangief has very little options to beat Evil Ryu in a footsie game since Evil Ryu's normals are incredibly good, and Snake Eyez' footsies are world-class.
      You can't say that Daigo had a tougher time playing this match compared to the matches he played before top 8.

    • @kumikones
      @kumikones Před 8 lety

      lYakuzal I think you might have missed what my issue with your comment was about. Sure it's a bad match-up for Zangief, I acknowledged that. But the fact that someone like SnakeEyez could not do much is very much a testament to Daigo's skill and knowledge in the match-up. Just imagine a top player simply not having an answer. It's very much similar to Daigo losing 13 (I think?) games in a row to Kazunoko. There has to be a point when you stop blaming match-ups and acknowledge that to some extent, even the favourable person in the match-up still won through better skill and understanding of the opponent player.

    • @lYakuzal
      @lYakuzal Před 8 lety

      +Oumae Kumiko
      I can see your point, but i guess you misinterpreted my comment as well :/.
      I'm just trying to say that match-ups play a big role in this game than most fighting games, and Zangief vs Evil Ryu is proof of that. Snake Eyes always has a very tough time beating high-level Evil Ryus and has never beaten a high-level Sagat with Zangief. Yes, Daigo definitely did show that he played better than Snake Eyez even if the match-up was in his favor, but with the limited amount of tools Zangief has I feel that Snake Eyez is restricting himself from being able to play at his best. I've seen what Snake Eyez is capable of doing, but I know for sure that he can do so much more with the kind of skills he has.
      I'm not saying that he should've learned a different character though, I just wished this match wasn't so one-sided due to how bad the match-up is.

    WTF. Snake Eyez nerves got the better of him. Every hadouken is a reactionary EXGH on audio cue for Big Z. Challenge Daigo crouch MK with Zang's crouch LK xx EXGH. Use crouch LK, crouch LP, stand MP, stand LK as Z's midrange tools. Challenge hadouken with L1 focus attack/dash or stand HK, occasional random LPGH. This matchup is even. Its a shame Snake Eyez was not being himself.

      In real fighting games, be it SF, Tekken or Gilty Gear, Murica will never win. For the same reason why murika can't create a truly competitive fighting game.

    I feel Snake Eyez didn't make good use of Zangief's tools: Against the hadouken spam, he's got to go to Reaction EXGH, reaction L1 FA or reaction banish with LPGH into mixup/SPD. Occasionally use far MK and far HK to deter fireballs. Needs to stop walking backwards in the hopes of whiff punishing. Snake Eyez STAY PUT and either block or defend with crouch LP or crouch LK. Didn't control frontal space enough with far MP. Needs to go for the extended LP SPD by whiffing crouch LP or crouch LK. Whiff punish with the kara LPGH. I'm surprised he forgot all his Hagejin training. It's not like Snake Eyez.

      ***** everyone didn't know who to expect in in the tournament! Even Gamerbee didn't know what to expect when he had to face Keoma in winners bracket. He was prepared for Snake eyez mentally but NOT for Keoma. So for Snake Eyez to lose to Keoma in round 1 because he was training for Strider is understandable and he paid for the mistake. So when the rematched again in top 8, he played much better and showed their true difference in skill. If you can't find respect in that, you miss the point.

      Wow. Daigo's reactions are amazing! its like he said .... "its just zangief hahahh" .. about the previous fight, i respect your point of view, but disagree in some ways.
      I do realize that one player prepare to face another, but disagree with you when you say that the second match showed the true difference between them. in total, we had 9 rounds won for keoma and only 6 for snake eyes, but snake managed to defend himself better in the second instance, and since that one was the definitive one, he won even being pressed all the time. What a great match this one would have been if keoma had passed.

Snake played at his best in the runback (the 2nd time) with Keoma playing at that same intensity the entire tournament and he adapted from his previous losses and overcame Keoma. Both earned their spots getting to top 8. Total wins mean absolutely nothing when its all about being able to perform where it counts the most.
