  • Are you struggling to decide between a Catrike Expedition or a Catrike Pocket? Well, while these trikes may look similar, the small differences between them make these two machines perform well for different types of riders. Harold takes you through the similarities and differences of these two awesome solid frame Catrikes to help inform you on which trike is best for you.

I'm trying to decide between the Pocket and the Expedition and this video was very helpful, thank you!

I love my Cattrike Pocket, but that 20" inch can be an issue for a lot of reasons. Something you didn't touch on is that derailleur has to much travel for that 20" wheel. If you try that curb jump you did on the expedition, on the pocket it will crash derailleur. I have even got it to rub just going up sidewalk inclines in the lowest of gears if approach is to steep. Also the 20" wheel isn't compatible with almost all the indoor riding equipment so you are most likely going to be forced to rollers. 26" seems to be the minimum for direct drive and electromagnetic.
All that said I wouldn't have any other trike. I love my little go kart trike and will just change it to internally geared rear wheel when I get some money.

Maybe there is some kind of optical illusion taking place here but after watching this video several times I have come to the conclusion that the blue Expedition trike shown has the more reclined seat back angle (~37 degrees) vs the more upright seat back angle of the orange Pocket trike shown (~41 degrees). Harold stated the Expedition has the more upright angle. My observation concerns the 2 trikes demonstrated in this video but maybe the Expedition and Pocket models sold by Utah Trikes agree with Harold's statement. If others disagree with my observation, then let me know. Maybe I have a visual disorder?

I think the Pocket is the one for me. I wish I could visit you guys up in Utah as I hope to get a trike soon and I should probably test ride first BUT your videos are so good, I just need a little faith to complete the purchase.
Isn't there a Cattrike that folds without the need of seat removal while also having a kickstand?

All Catrike's folding models can be folded without removing the seat and they all have kickstands.

I think you reversed their seat angles. Also the turning radius difference is a function of their wheel bases, not widths. Also you likely exceeded the Pocket's rated rider weight maximum of 225lbs, & perhaps even the Expedition's maximum 250lbs.
You drove that poor Pocket straight up a sharp curb, & I suspect caused a snake bite flat. Watching your turning radius tests, I noticed the handlebar settings on both trikes were not set to optimum for tight turning.
Not your fault, but all Catrikes are inappropriately geared, meaning the inner 30T chainring is mismatched with the others - causing a different percentage jump from the other chain rings. Instead of a 30T, Catrike should have gone with a 26T inner, which also makes the Expedition a much better climber.
