- 1989 British TV adaptation of the 1974 Kingsley Amis novel Ending Up.
A traditional rural English Christmas, reluctantly spent with the predominantly geriatric family (who all have their quirks and eccentricities) ends in tragedy after a practical joke goes horribly wrong.
Cast includes John Mills, Googie Withers, Lionel Jefferies, Michael Hordern, Philip Glenister and Wendy Hiller.
Thank you so much for up loading this. I never forgot it but I didn't think I'd ever see it again! Thanks so much.
This is one of the best comedy films of all time, supported by a stellar cast.
Thank you, Mr Salisbury. Pure Kingsley Amis, who shared with Philip Larkin a 'tendency to perceive most human beings as by degrees preposterous and infuriating,' according to biographer Richard Bradford.
This is fluid acting of the finest sort.
Dear Lord. This is dark.
Of course, the whole situation is exaggerated, but nevertheless, not far from the truth.
A fantastic cast that would have made even the badest script shine.
Thank you very much for sharing this twisted gem :)
Thanks so much for posting. Really enjoyed this adaptation - though unless you've read the novel the ending probably doesn't make much sense!
Haven’t read it - but to me this ending makes perfect sense.
I watched this with mum and dad when it first aired. I remember warning them that this was based on a novel by the author who wrote The Green Man so it’s going to get weird or dark or both.
Funniest brilliance.
Just one instance: Michael Hordern (George) looks EXACTly Ike his dog. It’s the rictus distortions & swelling on his face from his stroke. Magnificent players. Perfect ending, perfect cast.
