Extraordinariamente expresiva!
I can’t say how many reaction videos of this song I have watched, but to me this was the best. No crying, no overreacting, just quietly in awe of what he just saw and without a word playing again as if trying to realize what he just watched. Lara “The Ring” is mesmerizing and truly captivating in her performances!
Eso es lo que se llama, una clase magistral de canto, hizo de todo en una sola pieza, Lara es fenomenal, no ha adjetivos para calificar tanto talento.
“Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends.
Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations.
This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent one I am aware of is from the Korean band Forestella.

Lara es una gran intérprete. Como dijo Eric, ella se apropió de la canción y la hizo suya con la bendición de Serge Lama, el verdadero intérprete de esta canción. Vi 2 o 3 reactores en YT que no reaccionaron a esta canción y la interpretación de Lara. Me digo a mí mismo que algunos no tienen el alma para permanecer insensibles a esta obra maestra musical. La mayoría quedan atónitos y, a veces, aturdidos después de escucharlo y verlo, ya que su actuación es magistral. Ella es la reina de las emociones. Espero que continúen descubriendo a este magnífico artista. Tiene más de treinta años de carrera y siempre está en lo más alto. Acaba de retomar una gira por sus 52 años....
Serge Lama la apoya, pero debemos ser justos, este tema es mucho más antiguo, pero si alguien lo hizo popular en su tiempo fue DALIDA, que tampoco era la que junto a él cantó por primera vez la canción, pero la colocó en lo más alto de la canción francesa.
LARA, que entre muchas otras virtudes, tiene la de ser generosa, adoraba a DALIDA y varias veces lo a mencionado.

Hola! It's her talent, man. She has this ability no one else has. And it's not even her own song. She can relate to those lyrics so well that she is clearly living it while she sings it. And what a way to express all that, you have no choice but to be sucked deep with her in to the story. And her vocals in this story telling, just insane. There has never been, and never gonna be again, artist like Lara. She is just absolute perfection. And this is one example of that artistry. 😎

I will post in a few seconds another comment with the story of the creation of Je suis malade.
This is not her song, this is a cover. But Lara only sings songs that she can connect to or relate to in some way.
She stopped singing some of her most famous hits (eg "Tout") just because she lost this connection and she doesn't want to fake it.
For some of her other hits, she reinvented in her head the meaning of the song and found another way to connect to it.
With Je suis malade, she didn't have to do it, she has always found the same connection throughout her career: she sang it no later than last week in some concerts.
She told once that she puts in this song all the frustrations and negative emotions she has had in her life (and she went through quite a lot of bad experience before reaching some serenity now). Apparently this acts as some catharsis for her. And she is totally immersed into it.

Lara had the same impact on me and many others when hearing this song.
In fact, she has a unique way to connect to your soul intimately, and channel the emotions directly there, bypassing all filters.
I think this is due to her way of performing a song: she lives it, she has this unique capability to switch between speaking and singing, to ride that fine line between crying and singing, her phrasing is so perfect, the use of her breath, her subtle transition between chest, mix and head voices, her intense stare at the audience, all this combined creates this connection.
The rule with her is Always react to her live performances: she feeds herself from connecting with others, her music videos are not at the same level 99% of the time.

Great singer, charismatic performer, and the art that conceals art. She's a wonderful singing actor, who treads a highwire of emotion, as if she is telling you her story for the first time; but she is never overwhelmed, she never loses control of her breath, nor stumbles over her words. That's not to say she doesn't feel the song, or hasn't experienced some situations in her own life that she draws on; but what she has in abundance, I believe, is imagination and empathy.

Like Eric Sicard wrote, Lara didn't write this. Lara is however a very good performer. She can act as well. At the start of the song, when the piano plays, you can see her getting in to the character that will sing the song, or tell the story. After she finished the song you can see her needing a minute to get rid of the character she played and be herself again.
Now you've seen this version of the song from 2001, you really should react to a live version from two years later.
