  • Using a bubbler or dip tube is a simple but very effective way to measure liquid depth. In the next "basement video," Control Engineering editor Peter Welander does a hands-on demonstration. www.controleng.com.

This video explains the concept at the best. Thank you so much !! The other day I encountered this in measuring the level in one of the product tanks, and I was puzzled. Now I am clear !

Wonderful job Peter! This demonstration has been "instrumental" in explaining bubbler strategies to my students. More videos please!

For best accuracy, the connection to the DP transmitter should from a T located at the top of the tank.

Sure you can use it on a pressurized tank. You just have to hook the low side to the top of the tank where the liquid won’t reach and it works all the same.

Hi there excellent demonstrations and I really enjoyed it.. Can you explain where the concept of back pressure comes in this type of instrument?

We have these in Houston to measure bayou water level and post on the Harris County Flood gauge site. Would the compressed air in those situations (dozens of sensors across the city) be obtained from a small battery operated compressor right on site that turns on and off every so often? I am guessing so and it being powered by a battery that is charged via solar panel or something.interesting technology and great video. Thanks!
