The fact that they’re like 15 years into their career and STILL DANCING LIKE THIS. Shinee has truly truly solidified their spot as one of the most iconic groups of all time.
What sets this dance practice apart especially is the INCREDIBLE dancing, the camera that pans from one side to the other, and the lighting.
It’s so high quality, so beautiful, the song is insane, I expect nothing less from Shinee.

Seriously, the younger Idols are doing the HARD challenge. Everyone loves SHINee!! SM wanted Juice to be the title track and SHINee pushed for HARD. Taemin mentioned a 3rd song that's good enough to be the title track as well. This album is incredible!! Five wins already in 2023. Five for each of the members (always five). Minho looked up and held the trophy to the sky on stage to show Jonghyun 🥺❤💎

I don't think they've done a performance this big and many dancers for a title track before. BUT live performance in a concert.. I can think of a few. One that comes up to mind right now is EVIL performance in SWC III in Seoul. This JUICE performance reminds me of that.
Yes!! The best thing about SHINee is the members' individuality. They're so distinct on their own but they merge together so well. It's mind boggling. I have never seen a group as diverse but cohesive as SHINee.. like ever. 🩵
Tbh, if possible, it would be nice for them to have title tracks with several backup dancers so they also can go off too. Sometimes it's noticeable how much the dancers are holding back to not outshine the artist so when the artist is popping off, they are also able to do so.

I mean, for titles I think not, but the bsides on concerts are pretty wild sometimes, like Picasso from the japanese soundtrack. B-side’s wise, SHINee is very diverse I think
Agreed that the Japanese Live Show of Hitchhiking was a massive production, but not this long. It was my favorite until Juice came along 😂

SHINee recently got their own dedicated production center within SM (Center 2, solely for them) and you can tell they've been making the most of it. Great social media presence, great production for their performance videos, a shit-ton of behind the scenes content, etc. All it takes is to give them and their dedicated staff full control and we get masterpieces like this.

They're gonna share Center 2 with the new boy group of SM soon.
About freaking time the 4 of them get basic autonomy. For too many years their individual contributions to SM went uncredited and unpaid!
the increase in social media presence is because of what Key did for the group. Shawols were clamoring for a new social media manager because of the lack of updates from the group. That's probably why they have better presence now

At this point, SHINee can do ANYTHING they want. SM wanted "Juice" as the title track; SHINee said no. They wanted "Hard". In addition, when they first heard "Hard", the brothers hated the melody, so they did what SHINee does -- they dismantled the melody and rewrote it to suit their taste. Minho explained that this is the reason why their comeback was delayed a month.
As another poster pointed out, they have done a couple other live performances with a significant amount of backup dancers.

The album is a masterpiece and there are even more live performances of b-sides from their recent SWC VI concert (Perfect Illumination). "Identity" is a great performance and you can see the guys are really happy to be performing in front of a live audience again -- especially Taemin. ( czcams.com/video/BgzuUFsIzAc/video.html )
Both SHINee, and Taemin through his last MV, "Advice", were basically saying, "Just wait -- once we're all together again and all the military services have been completed, we will start the second act of our careers -- it's going to be EPIC!
SHINee sets the kpop quality higher and higher. They literally punch the industry so HARD with this album. I totally agree with your reaction. SHINee is THE STANDARD!
And this is their 15th years.
SHINee has coreographies with this level of complexity, mostly on bsides that are only show on concerts, that's why probably not everyone knows that they can go this hard with a b-song. Juice was a perfect song for the title, but SHINee just loved and saw the diamond that Hard can be. I love this boys, always showing new sides of them and that they still are on their roots
I honestly feel like SHINee chose HARD because Juice sounds like a SHINee we’ve already heard (imo) whereas HARD is like a new SHINee we’ve never heard before and SHINee being SHINee, they always want to risk it.
This though. Juice sounds more like dcm. Hard is very new. They know that they've been releasing new title tracks every comeback so I think hard is the better choice

Y'all don't understand just how obsessed with Juice I am. First of all the song is an instant fav for me but besides that, THIS VIDEO IS INSANE???? Like I was drooling over the cinematography of it ngl. The styling is also perfect. Man I'm in love.
I was mid about Juice (there's been a lot of grandiose boy group tracks) but then performance video and the performances changed my mind. SHINee doing things better than everyone else, as per usual. The lighting and camerawork is so so so so good. SM investing in the good PDs this year.

They had this sound before in their earlier albums. Get Down is one example. The performance video being this grand-scale production with a lot of dancers is new for them. Don't Call Me was their hardest choreo to learn according to them.

SM should let demjointz be their executive producer, this man's production is so crunchy and perfect , he always be bringing something new to the table
And kpop is perfect for him too, the western industry was holding him back.
20 years listening to Kpop and I’m just astound by SHINee. Their determine and drive to consistency deliver is incredible! They add so much spice and continue to maintain integrity to their sound and performance. Like they didn’t have to go this hard but decided to do so anyway!

Not only was Onew put on medical leave in the middle of this comeback, Key was hurt during these performances which is why you see him with gloves over his brace. They sure know how to step up for each other in the time of need. And they worked hard and fast right after Taemin got out of military.
I've been into K-pop since my teens and one of my friends has been a Shawol from when they debuted, but I've never really given SHINee a chance in all those years. This performance video opened my eyes, they are AMAZING!

SHINee is always setting the standards and trends and then exceeding them and this is them saying WE ARE STILL HERE and we are the best -- DEAL // This is SHINee's teaching a Master Class in how it is done right.
I streamed their concert and it was definitely the BEST concert I’ve ever seen and heard. These guys are very deliberate in everything they do. SHINee is just legend. they're at their 15th year and they didn't even retired yet, and they're already legendary. all of the idols after them can never have the potential to be compared to them. and that's why being a Shawol is the biggest flex ever. you can never go wrong with SHINee and they keep on surprising everybody with every comeback

YES, SHINee has done this before, Trigger and Alive are a few examples, and yes, they have done performances with a huge number of dancers on the stage, the very first performance of Hitchhiking comes to mind. Your lovely in-house Shawol needs to Shawol more, saying this with love.

I loved hearing your opinion as a non-shawol. as a shawol myself I was in shock watching it for the first time. even though I know all of their performances are epic, this felt different, and you can also tell they've been enjoying this comeback. I also like how you pointed out that a veteran group like them is using all the new resources in the kpop industry to show rookies how it's done. 15 years in the game and they're still on top, it's insane.
Thank you for your reaction to SHINee! I think the performance of Picasso went pretty hard, and the members say that Don't Call Me was a harder choreo than HARD or Juice. The camera work, lighting, special effects, and editing of this Juice performance video is fire. There's a video of BoA interviewing SHINee (on her show that I want to see, ep. 19 of K-909) and she asks about Taemin's rapping in HARD, and he said that Kenzie thought it was cute and she laughed so much when she heard him, lol. I like your description of their moves as reckless with aftershocks. The legion of dancers are in sync and are extensions of Taemin, Key , and Minho as they tell their story through every fiber of their beings. Taemin is such an elegant dancer and he brings his incomparable color to the unique SHINee swag. That broken arm wave Taemin does, wow! Dem Jointz, just wow! Yes, I love how you called out the event horizon shot and how epic this whole production is! Looking forward to Onew's return and future SHINee activities as well as Taemin's next chapter. JUICE is without doubt the best performance video in kpop lately! and also i think SM had something planned for juice (since it was the first choice as title track) and they wanted to show the potential of the song (and a possible music video) as if they were competing with SHINee decision, which leads to this incredible music performance! Also the producer is a hit maker, JUICE deserved a video of its own
They promoted Juice on music shows too, which is where I fell in love with this song and performance. I actually liked this more than Hard at first, but I love both songs. I can see why both songs were candidates for the title track. This performance MV is just brilliant.
"We are going to show you how it is really done" ... For the new and for the olds. 15 years in music and even so, they adapt to the times, to the new generations, with MUSIC, VOICES, DANCE, PRODUCTION and a truly IMPECCABLE album. Proud of them.
I just couldn't put this down, this performance video was so dope - from the lighting the transitions and camerawork. Of course not forgetting just how the styling and choreo and members put everything together. Just a 10/10 for me ❤🔥

honestly this as a performance video makes sense for shinee, considering how many times over they have revolutionised kpop by doing the absolute most. i think they may have also been the ones to popularise dropping dance practice videos way back around the time of lucifer, which is now a standard when it comes to promo with comebacks and even b-sides that get performed, but don’t quote me on that lmao.
if this is the best era yet, shinee has always been a contemporary kpop group, they thrive through the changes and experimentation. they’re made for it.
i love the control that minho has over his body during the “i think you like me, i think you like me, i think you li- li- li- li- like me” the way he stops but still bounces a bit is so captivating to me. he’s so manly but not overally manly…kinda like a jojo character especially the part where he wraps his arms around himself
PD, I'm not sure if you noticed (because I just did) but Key's part where they do the ripple in a circle is a nod back to some choreo in Bad Love.

Thanks again for reviewing SHINee!!! I LOVE Hard, it was perfect as a title track, but somehow, Juice pulls me in differently - both the song and their performance video. I have never seen a Kpop video shot as intensely as this one so that's probably why I go back to watching it a few times.

I think the Juice Performance video is best appreciated when shots are clipped out and isolated, so they can be taken in individually. When this many amazing cinematic shots and transitions and choreo moments are all together, it can feel overwhelming and like they pass by so quickly. But if you were to clip out the entire video into 2 seconds clips, each clip would be amazing and breathtaking on its own.

They've done songs and dances like this before, but it was for B-sides, so most people don't know about that
As I was going into my K-Pop journey, SHINee pulled me in with their very first debut with "Replay" and I remember they were joined with other 2nd Gen Idols that Jaejae hosted with "View". Their versatility, musicality, and their choreography was always amazing to me. They got me again when they came back after the military (3 out of the 4) with "Don't Call Me" and "Atlantis". This whole comeback album is literally a NO SKIP album! I can say the same about EXO's comeback album EXIST. I'm always gonna have a spot in my heart for 2nd Idols like SHINee and EXO! 🫰🏽🫶🏽
There is actually a lot of intense and big performance choreo during their concerts haha Juice MV looks like a concert stage with a very good video director hahaha
This is my favourite track I just love the reggaeton feel of the chorus...It's even better on the album with Onew as well..I kinda disagree as a dancer about the precision. You can't dance that close and coordinated without absolute precision. But most moves are larger in form so it can look looser. All the SHINee members have their own flavour to their dance even when they're doing the same choreo but blends so well...that's not a new thing but I think this and the Hard MV really highlights those to be a feature...Hard they all have different moves to their choruses. I think this album shows how much they know not only their own but each others vocals and dance styles and how to use that to the best. SHINee has done hiphop but not this hard before but if you go back through their discography they've always brought something new and different to each comeback/album. To try to explain SHINee's genre is difficult bc of this. SHINee is SHINee basically ...expect the unexpected. But this Album is everything.
The choreographer for this song is a dance crew name wedemboyz or WDBZ!! They really did a good job in this song tbh 💚💚💚💚
Everything about this was simply perfection. This did not feel like a performance video at all - it felt like a whole music video, or movie even - it tells a story, has so much attitude, energy and is just directed so well

They have done some bigger performances during concerts. Ome that comes to mind is for their song Hitchhiking.
But I don't think SM has given them the budget before now to do such a large dance number in their MVs or performance vids before now tho.
It’s hard to be a kpop Stan but always want more raw/stripped back (less over-produced) content. Pretty much only this video and Taemin’s move give me that. I love it.
The' baby' by Key in the bridge is incredible,my soul seem like to be taken away
I think SHINee's been doing hard choreo from the jump but never this far into hiphop. As for the backup dancers they had a bunch for Good Evening and some in Don't Call Me, where in the live stages they would do the same choreo as the members only facing away from the audience in this cool mirror-ish effect.
Juice in this way feels kinda like a culmination of a really long buildup lol

SHINee has several songs (non title tracks) with similar vibes and big in performance including dance crew, but mostly performed in concerts. Evil is my favorite out of those SHINee older performances. I can see why Juice is loved by many people, so much aspects in it is so big, powerful and just tasteful. With that being said, I can totally see why SHINee went for Hard as title track, because for me personally Hard sounds much more experimental with genres hybrid, the instrumental is wild, esp those piano keys with classic old school hiphop, also anti drop chorus is rather rare for SHINee's title tracks haha just like how Everybody was SHINee 1st title track without rap. If I were to put in words much more simply, Juice is a reminiscence of some SHINee older works with modern touch (and SM sounding too), while Hard is instrumentally experimental :D
Anyway, this performance video is just chef's kiss. Its definitely the best performance video I've ever since in kpop, if not ever.

I looooove this "high quality fish" production! That company don't miss. It's elements I've seen before (even as far back as Jus2 "Focus"...motion control cam, black bg's, spotlights, lit metal frames, distortion transitions) just levelled the eff up! I think they did "Gasoline"-- and same choreographers, too -- so they know how to shoot center Key with a full dance crew in the back.
Crazy. It's as exciting having Minho travelling across the large crew to center, as staying focused the core three in spotlight.
I`m a shawol since 2010 and I can say that shinee has done hip hop before, just not as the title track. but u can find those songs as bsides in their albums. so I disagree with the shawol in the back. performance wise they have also done bigger ones with a lot of backupdancers, just at concerts, not in a performance video.
