  • James Kalm makes a concerted effort to try and bring viewers the most broad and relevant video documentation of art happenings in New York City. Along with this task, your correspondent attempts to place these events within a social context, that gives observers a background to help their understanding of local cultural progress. Within the last couple of years, and especially since the covid 19 lockdowns, there’s been a recalibration and shift in the art market, with many long-time galleries closing, and many blue-chip artists seeing their market collapse. “See Stop Run” is a widely discussed DIY exhibition by Christopher Wool in which the artist has procured a vacant floor in a building in the Wall Street district, and curated a “mini-retrospective” of works, mostly from the last decade. As someone whose work has achieved some of the highest auction prices for living artists, Wool has chosen to present this show with none of the work being for sale, a kind of paradoxical challenge to the current market correction. Included are painting, mixed media on paper, drawings, sculpture, found objects and photography. This program was recorded July 26, 2024. #jameskalmreport #jameskalmroughcut #lorenmunk
