    Every time I see speakers like this, I think of my tower DCM Time Windows from 1984.

    • @Audiofreak71
      @Audiofreak71  Před rokem

      Those time windows are some good speakers for the money, Vandersteen has been around since 77 so this design in the 1,2 & 3 series had never changed externally however, internally they have changed over the years.

      I feel the same way! I got original Model 3s about 1994, and then spent A LOT more for a pair of Music Reference RM-9s to drive them.
      Once I'd heard tubes, there was no going back! Your speakers sound great, even with CZcams (crappy) audio quality.

    For me, the 2s and the 7s were always the best RV made. I never thought the 3s were good enough for the added cost over the 2a and I haven’t loved the Quattro.

      The 3a Signature’s with a pair of subs sounds as good or the same as the model 5’a , I’ve heard them both side by side but I’m not the only one who says that either . I had the 2Ce signature II’s before my 3a sigs and while they are very good for the money the 3a sigs are on another level .

      @@Audiofreak71 Sounds hollow to me. Midrange is too pronounced. Could be the song and of course it is CZcams. That Melody Gardot you have in the background would have been a better choice of music in my opinion. Thanks for your post and the dialogue. The Vandys were never my thing, I am a horn guy all the way. Klipsch, Altec and old JBL. Mr. Vandersteen was obviously a genius, but his speakers never spoke to me.

      @Audiofreak71  Před 6 měsíci

      @@jmalen123 Ah I see , well as you said it’s CZcams and you’re listening through whatever it is you’re listening to so definitely not a direct representation of how it sounds in real life. • @Audiofreak71
      @Audiofreak71  Před 3 lety +1

      The 3a Signature’s are in another league , they’re more in line with the 5a’s as long as you add a sub or two (not that they need them) in which I do. Exceptional Sounding speakers from bottom to top.

    • @johnsimmons5056
      @johnsimmons5056 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Audiofreak71 Thanks, from the videos they both sound fantastic. My only concern is how easy are they to drive. My amp is a pass labs xa-25 which really puts out 80watts into 8 ohm and 130 into 4ohms. Not sure that would be enough power.

    • @Audiofreak71
      @Audiofreak71  Před 3 lety

      @@johnsimmons5056 Thank you for the compliment. You could drive them with that however Vandersteen’s love clean power and lots of current, so with that said you could start with your Pass Labs amp and see how you like it and go from their . As an example I started with 150wpc when I first got into Vandersteens now with the 3a Sigs I am running them with 305wpc and they just love it and sound better.
      P.S. you also need to make sure your amp can handle a 2ohm load because they can dip down that low if you’re listening to big drums or bass heavy music depending on how loud you listen also . But if you listen at moderate levels you should be fine with your amp .
      P.S.S. Lol btw my last name is Simmons also 👍

    I’m really wanting the Tri-Vista DAC. Any upgrade’s?

    • @Audiofreak71
      @Audiofreak71  Před rokem

      It’s an excellent Dac that is turned into a world class Dac with the Liquid Audio mods which mine has, I highly recommend it if your not concerned with DSD it what it does for redbook all the way to 192 may make you not concerned with DSD. I have another Dac that does DSD and I never use it because the Trivista 21 is leagues better in every way.

    Sound really good, do you think its good value to upgrade from 3A to a 3A Signature ?

    • @Audiofreak71
      @Audiofreak71  Před 3 lety

      It is a pretty decent jump from the regular 3a to the 3a Signature’s so I would say yes because essentially you’re getting the model 5’s with the 3a signatures .

    • @4xDiscovery
      @4xDiscovery Před 3 lety

      @@Audiofreak71sorry for all the questions, but what about instead of upgrading, simply buy a modern hifi speaker such Double Impact? Do you think they are comparable? I know 3a sig are similar to 5s, and 5s are tree times as much as 3a sig; Not sure why, if they are "the same" however I wonder that if there is still value in 15 year old design. Do you have experience with other similarly priced modern speaker?

    • @Audiofreak71
      @Audiofreak71  Před 3 lety

      @@4xDiscovery The new 3a sigs may look the same in the outside but they are all new inside nothing like the older 3a’s . Mine are the new ones btw , what Vandersteen does is use the drivers from the upper end speakers that are going out of production.
      The Tektons are great speakers but they are much different sounding than Vandersteens. Tektons are more forward sounding but are pretty efficient so if amplification is a factor then they may be more appealing.
      Vandersteen’s love power , that’s not to say you have to use a big amp to power them but they do respond well the more current you give them. I know it’s hard to choose speakers especially now that it’s very hard to get out and audition them So it’s a crap shoot.
      But you have to weigh your options and choose which ones better fit you . One other thing to consider is both the Tektons you mentioned and the 3a Sigs are big speakers and will need to be pulled away from the wall , the vandys will need to be dialed in I.e. getting the rake angle in reference to your seating position correct, feed them clean upstream gear and you’ll be in for a treat.
      P.S. it’s no problem at all to answer your questions at all 👍
