    Sometimes when we pour concrete floors the load of concrete seems a little rocky. This was one of those times. We usually order the same concrete floor mix on all our residential concrete floors. It's a 3500 PSI mix with 3/4 aggregate, micro-fiber mesh, water-reducer, and non-air (for interior floors).
    Most of the time, the concrete mix seems nice and doesn't separate. Today on this job, the concrete mix had what seemed like too much stone.
    I don't batch the concrete so I can't tell you the exact reason this could happen but maybe some stone got in the sand bin when the loader operator was loading the bins at the concrete plant.
    Anyway, take a look at how we poured this "rocky" concrete and the tool we used to help consolidate the concrete.

    I am watching your vids from Europe/Hungary. You guys always do a nice job. I think US is strong at concreting.

    Our concrete here in wa state is practically always that rocky. I am always jealous of the concrete I see online...

    At my plant, when we run into those issues. It usually has to do with segregation before the batch. I'm not sure what course agg they use. When I let my bin run too low when batching, I have this issue. He more than likely has changed something small and hasn't noticed it being an issue. Repeatability is the key to good, consistent concrete. Everything the same all the time.

    Since watching your videos. I now use the easy mix also. Because only 2 of us.

    Gradation of the agg has a huge effect on mix performance. If the 57 stone is running too heavy on the gradation, you end up with that segregation

    That concrete basement wall at the lower side got hit by something like an excavator or something (around time 8:50). It really chipped the edge of that concrete wall. Wow... That's not your problem though. The floor looks good. You go man...

    Definitely looks like too much rock in the mix. Could be their aggregate scale is messed up (rarely happens). But from experience sometimes your rock bin will get stuck open and overshoot your rock weight. The right answer is to remove the excess rock from the scale. But if you’re very busy that day they might of just said screw it and sent it anyway. More rock means that the cement has more surface area to cover too. Ask for batch weights to prevent this

    looks like an 8 inch slump ?? thats why

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  Před 5 měsíci

      It's supposed to be, it has water reducer, we pay extra for it to get a loose slump.

    • @mattoakes85
      @mattoakes85 Před 5 měsíci

      With high range water reducer in the mix, you can safely pour a 7 inch slump. He explained this at the beginning of the video. Most people who haven't seen a slump test performed don't really know what slump they are actually looking at. High range around me is also called super plasticizer. It makes the concrete look a lot wetter than it really is.

    I dont like that super watery concrete....I think it makes for to many shrinking & cracking problems in the future.

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  Před 5 měsíci +4

      Uh, our mixes have water reducer so we can loosen them up like this. They have less shrinkage than regular concrete.
