Just changed the battery in my 2017 Silverado 1500 LT. It was VERY MUCH EASIER following your video. Wrench sizes, tips, etc. Mine had an extra bolt on connection and plug to the positive bus on top of the battery that came off the passenger side so had to disconnect those to relocate the positive bus. Disconnected and reconnected when done with no problems electrically anywhere. Thank you for the excellent tutorial - it is greatly appreciated!!

Just a quick safety tip.. if you plan to turn it sideways to remove the battery it’s best to use the terminal covers that came with your new battery to avoid contacting both terminals with any metal in the area. Batteries have enough juice to weld and it can be very dangerous doing it this way.

This guy made me nervous watching the removal. The reservoir is 2 small bolts, can remove battery easily and replace it with a GROUP 48, smaller case same power.

Great video brother but take it from someone who has a 2017 1500 sierra and has messed with these batteries several times, just remove the coolant reservoir. You dont even need to remove the hoses connected to it. Just remove the two bolts that holt it in place and lift it up and lean it back out of the way. This eliminates the risk of damaging the reservoir when removing the battery and only takes a minute. Then just grab the battery handle and lift out. If your someone like me and can become impatient pretty easily at times, this is the way to go.

Good video and very helpful, thanks for posting it. 👍
FYI, take it or leave it, just for technical info in case you’re curious:
AGM = Absorbent Glass Mat (electrolyte [battery acid] is absorbed essentially in fiber glass and placed between the lead plates, as opposed to classic “flooded” cells, where the electrolyte is free flooded in the battery), it’s not technically gel.
Also, “bus” is the electrical equivalent of a piping header for mechanical systems. Usually a copper (or good conductive metal) bar for electricity to flow through, in place of a pipe that air/water/hydraulic fluid flow through.

Exactly, I figure for 30 seconds won't do anything. Plus, as you point out, there's no way around it, so my guess is GM doesn't see a concern either. If it makes you feel better, mine is running strong since my change and my previous one was fine too. I'm guessing if you leave batteries on their side for an extended period of times, it's obviously probably going to damage them due to the cells, etc.

On marking the battery you do the month and the last number of the year so not the 2 and the 1 just the 1, if you can’t remember what decade it was there is a problem, not trying to be a duck but it helps a mechanic figure out how old a battery is and also helps with warranty coverage, a couple of years from now a mechanic won’t be able to tell if it’s 2021 or 2022 on this battery

Once you make routine maintenance a headache for the average joe it's a problem but you know they design all these new vehicles to not be worked on by the average joe. They want you to go to the dealer and pay the $250+ for a battery swap.

@B the most frustrating thing to me is that they still have all the room on the driver side, where the battery went on older Chevy trucks.

Thanks Spiro! Glad this helped out. I don't get why some videos insist you remove the coolant tank. Definitely not necessary.

5:48 and the main purpose of that bar is to make the average owner say, "i better take this into the dealership to change the battery." Typical person would open the hood and be able to change a battery, but if something else is in the way, then theyll scratch the idea and take it to the dealership. Same thing with headlight bulbs, u gota take the bumper, grill, splash sheilds in the wheel wells, sometimes front fenders, just to change the bulb. Instead of just designing it like how its worked forever. In the meeting when designing the vehicle, someone in there said, lets make the headlight bulbs very difficult to replace and most will bring it to the dealership, equals more money.

Wanted to change the battery in my 17 TAHOE . Looked under the hood and was like wtf . So started the process . First I needed a special battery, a “ AGM “ . Got it at COSCO. $ 189 bucks . Then I watched this video . Glad I did, took out a lot of confusion under the hood. Start to finish 25 minutes … one bit of advice if you have a step Stool available use it .. 12 inches makes a big difference. The vehicle is pretty high up. And at 6”1 I still needed it .. thanks !!
