I’m reading the death of Artemio Cruz right now and it is MASTERFUL. Amazing writing! I can’t wait to read more from him. He’s such a wonderful speaker as well. RIP.

His Death of Artemio Cruz maybe with Le Rouge et le Noir, the greatest book about delinquency or corruption ever written. It's about the will of power, the will of dominating others. And about where does it lead to. And if we speak of corruption and its delinquents, Mexico knows a lot about it. So Mexico City would be one of its best scenaries. Excuses for saying this, being this a Country one where I lived, and love so much. So Artemio will surely become someone quite repulsive for every reader. Though all of you will be compelled to enter in his whirlwinds of vile corruption. The way it's written gives you possibly the closest approach to Artemio's increasingly rotten mind. If ambition is or becomes a cult, Fuentes character is a good sample of it. Of course the book shows, but never justifies. With its peculiar writing. With the use of present and the second person, you're following all time Artemio while he is doing this or that, and going here or there. While he lays at bed watching himself in flashbacks. His love/s are here or there too, after all, the guy had a heart, too, the author seems to tell us. With this book happens the same than with Pedro Páramo or A Hundred Years of Solitude: we are speaking of the best Latin American and Spanish Literature of the past century. An unavoidable reading, do not hesitate to plunge into Artemio Cruz mind, it's an unforgettable page turner and a Masterwork. Fuentes showed to be a great writer already with his Short Stories and in Aura, his novella. A very good author, at least in what it's mentioned here. ❤️🆗👍🙏🤗
