i HAD SOME OF THOSE! mY FAV. WAS A CZ 250. THE REAR HUB WAS A RATCHET for hill climbs,it would just stop when it couldn't go any higher and you would throw it sidewise and come back down! The honda 250 was fast when set up correctly with a dial indicator! spent alot of time in the Mojave camping and riding!
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us on bikes I appreciate it and thank you for showing us such beautiful craftsmanship long before these bikes
Hell Yeah....... you got good taste in bikes; especially the old motorcrossers. I considered the Montessa and a Bultaco before buying a Honda Elsinore CR250M. Kids today just have no appreciation for how brutal the old bikes were. We would go ripping around with only 4” of travel front and rear. When the Elsinore came out it was a big deal to get a 7” of travel on the front forks; revolutionary for that time frame. That’s also the exact time frame that Yamaha 74’ brought out the first mono shocker. My biggest nemesis at the track had the first Yammy mono.
Wow, this video have me goose bumps, miss the old bikes,so much cooler. Dang, the good old mono shock. On any Sunday is my favorite movie, shaped my life. Thanks for sharing this 🏁🏁👽👻👍👻🏁🏁.
So awesome 👍🏾👍🏾 but would have liked to see the old 1985 Honda 250 XR or CR but I just got some Yamaha dirt bike's will try to get it going so I can get back on one haven't been on for years then got a bucket list of getting my motor bike licence lol
This was the Mecam auction I was there and it was pretty incredible. It's cool of you to make a vid for everyone else to see the bikes but stop touching them and definitely stop getting on them! those are museum worthy. I'm surprised no one kicked your ass.
Steve I am from the UK, I had two montessas trials bikes with the 250cc!!. There famous engine, they are great machines. Know they are teamed up with honda still that is a subsidiary company. there are some sexy bikes on this vid great content so glad you built the d rod for sure and became famous here, in Scotland and love your work you started a revalution lol!!!.
I have and use a kaw 75 on a weekly basis heavy trucker for the mining industry I use the little bike to scope out pick up and delivery sites much easier to turn it around than my 379 pete with a 4 axle lowboy and a d9 cat stores on a little ramp I built on the back of the cab
Next time Im in Vegas from Phoenix I'll stop by on my 51 Triumph custom. I drove by a a couple months ago but it was rainy and drizzly. I have a 70 400 cross too *fistbump*
All those cool bikes and you managed to miss all the heavy hitters and focused on vintage dirt and toys. Glad I watched the video using the FF button... Didn’t have to waste 13 minutes...
I want to see your bikes Steve. Those bikes are nice but clearly not used 😜 don't get me wrong nice to see. Steve Mcquens is best bike film ever 👍👍👍😜🏴🦄🎣😁✌️
I was at a Shannon's auction in Victoria Australia there was a old Harley Davidson there it was a piece of junk but the only reason it went for 900.000 buks there is only four mad for people in Australia that raced them and this one maybe the only one still in existence. It is still in Australia somewhere
You're a badass because you live down there you're a badass for having a shop you're a badass for having TV show okay I'm going to stop awesome video brother keep up the great work May peace be with you and your family and workers
That trike is an original and not a reproduction because it's the only one the guy made. It's not old,.. just made to look old but does have some vintage bits, pieces & engine. BTW.. just where do you think you're at... the please touch museum? Surprised you made it out without a problem. Who said you could touch and sit on the bikes?
Come to the Barber Motorsports park second week of Oct for the biggest antique bike rally/race/swapmeet in the world. I'll be there along with 70000 other bike nuts.
When you're with the yellow 250 Yam, the man in the background wearing the check shirt has been in an episode of American Pickers. They traded parts for a 1914 Harley with him.
Awesome at the begining of the video that red 72 Yamaha XS 650 I had one just like it they were really fast o to 80 it would smoke a Honda 750 all day thanks for sharring
I had one like the last one ya showed it had the green stripe on top of the silver gas tank it was a 250 elsinore honda and that bike was incredible I loved it but honestly I dont remember what happened to it but ya I had alot of stuff I wish I still had but anyways this vid brought a few memories back
Do you ever run across many Hodaka’s or Bultaco motorcycles? I’m 45 and I had a Bultaco 370 and my older brother had a Hodaka that I can’t remember the size. Your story about the Kawasaki 75 cracked me up. Hit close to home I had two XR 75’s an later I had a 1982 KDX 80. We lived about 30 miles from town in N California so when we trashed our bikes we had to figure out any way possible to ride so many a time I found myself rigging up ridiculous crap so I could ride. Worst ever was a 79 KDX 400 that in the 6th grade I had to lean against a tree and put every bit of my maybe 100 lbs ass behind my foot to kickstart haha. My older brother busted the shifter shaft off the transmission so it was usually stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear but in the 6 th grade on that 400 that was plenty of power for my little dumbass haha. Somewhere I have video of my brother and I jumping that bike over an old ford pinto haha. We ripped the hood off the car and laid it from the ground to the back window of the car to make a ramp. We stuffed a few old rims and tires under the hood ( for safety haha) to keep it from collapsing. My brother whose about 8 years older and a shit ton more crazy than I hit that pinto at a pretty good speed and launched off the pinto and cleared an old Datsun station wagon we dragged in front of the pinto. Not really a big deal considering some of the amazing things these young guys can do these days as they are true athletes and of course have kick ass bikes and equipment. But for two brothers without a lot of money or talent haha we managed to keep our dad and the neighbors pretty entertained back in the day haha. I just found out yesterday that my leukemia is back so I’ll be starting chemo again this week but I’d been thinking all night that if I can beat this cancer bullshit again I’m gonna focus on getting back on a dirt bike for one and number two I’m gonna replace my custom Harley that the bank came and took from me during my first go around with leukemia haha. Running across your video this morning just sealed the deal as far as motivation haha. I’ll definitely be subscribing to your channel and checking out your other content. I wish like hell I could get out and go to shows like this myself but seeing as that’s not in the cards for me I certainly appreciate your taking the time to share your experience and I really mean that sincerely. Thanks again and your video made my day.
Hi Matt, This is Steve's Mom responding to your comment. Steve ask me to read it because your experiences sounds exactly like his and I agree. What a great time Steve had as a kid doing the same crazy things. It's a good thing I didn't know about most of them. Both you and your brother obviously have very creative minds and was the neighborhood entertainment. I'm curious to know what your occupation is now. Looks like you graduated to a Harley! Steve spent many hours in a nearby junk yard looking for parts to repair his bikes. He somehow made unlikely parts work. After the repair he was off to find another Dirt hill, another jump or anything that would challenge his abilities and imagination. He often returned home pushing his bike needing repairs once again. Steve and I have enjoyed reading about your escapades with your brother. We have laughed and reminisced about his and your stories. Now, you need to fight this leukemia and finish it for good and when you do come see us at Welderup. Steve and I would both like to meet you. Lets do a tour of the shop and showroom and visit about the good old days that made you who you are today. Let us know when your ready. We will be thinking about you Matt! Hang in there buddy! Steve and Mom
WelderUp First I have to apologize for the delay in my response. Your replay made me very happy to say the least. I have attempted to reply many times and have read your reply several times throughout this first go around with chemotherapy. There’s been many ups and downs in the beginning and mostly downs so I’ve cheered myself up a few times now by reading your response. Kindness from a stranger is one of the best feelings in the world. I would love to meet you both someday when I’m healthy. We currently live in the Austin area. Oh as far as my occupation I was a licensed master plumber before I got sick. I did the plumbing thing for 22-23 years and the only other job I had was as a hod carrier for a plastering company in California all through high school and a while after. Well if I knew how I’d send you my personal email address and what not as I would very much like to stay in contact but my skills leave a lot to be desired haha. I m getting out of the hospital for a while while we wait on my bone marrow biopsy genetic studies to come back because I have to have a transplant. So I guess as long as I can stay healthy I can stay out. Fingers crossed haha. Thank you again for your kindness sadly you just don’t find it as much theses days. You folks take care and you really seem like great folks.
Hi Matt, was great to hear from you. leave your e-mail information at info@welderup.com After a while I lose the comments. I'd like to know how your doing.
