Can you tell me why people in India think eggs are not vegetarian but milk and dairy products are vegetarian? Eggs are as vegetarian as milk.
A chicken lays eggs most of which are not fertilized and no chicks can hatch out of those eggs. It’s just for eating or it will go to waste.
On the other hand, a cow doesn’t produce milk for humans. It does for the calf and we steal the milk. A cow never produces milk if it doesn’t have a calf and it does lactate if it has a calf.
So technically, if milk and dairy products are vegetarian, so are eggs. Ethically, you drinking milk is more harmful to an animal than eggs that are not fertilized to a chicken.
Between eggs and milk, if I have to give up one for ethical reasons, it would be milk and dairy products and not eggs.
Indians have a strange notion of vegetarianism.
Personally, if I were to go vegetarian, I would eat eggs and some dairy products and avoid anything that involves killing an animal including fish and seafood. I don’t personally like milk but I do like cheese and icecream and butter on my toast and food. I do like eggs and it’s vegetarian. It doesn’t involve killing an animal.
