  • Florida grandparents are only allowed to petition courts for visitation under very narrow circumstances.

Start volunteering at her school. My ex tried something similar, so I went and got my background check done and signed up to volunteer every single day and for every single field trip. I had lunch with them every single day. You can't be turned away from a public school unless you have abused the children and have a negative effect on them. In parental alienation cases, it's often the only way to see the child. But it's legal in all 50 states as long as you don't have a criminal background.

I didn't really hear anything about the father until the mother of the little one passed. Was the father in his daughter's life before all this happened?. And as a grandmother i absolutely think her grandparents should be in her life, thats what the child knows and is use too. Also, I am not sure how old the child is, but maybe the courts should ask her what she wants. The grandmother that I am listening to loves her granddaughter very much, plus looks capable to care for her, and then the father could have supervised visitation. It's so very sad how the children are the ones who always get caught up in the mess the adults in their lives have dealt to them. It breaks my heart. ❤❤❤❤❤

Maybe if they told the father he wouldn't have to pay child support he would have a change of heart.

The father has full custody of her he is providing for her needs & isn't paying child support to anyone else, so how does this comment help? If he is already taking care of his daughter?

Either there is something not readily seen, or the father is a fool.

Or we are only getting the "white-washed" version of it... evey story has 3 sides his, hers, and the truth...

100% agree. They should be given some visitation rights. What a jerk the dad is-As soon as that little girl gets to 18 she’s going to be running back to grandmas arms and will be pissed daddy kept them from each other

Who said he was a jerk? Just because this woman made a public fuss over it? What if there's something else behind his choices?
It's been many years now but my mother's cousin died in a car accident & left behind a husband & a 5 year old daughter, Aunt F (my mother's aunt) would lie to the child about what a wonderful person her mother was & who her father is the reason she died (Oh ya, he choose to stay home with his daughter when his wife went to a company Christmas party and choose to drive home drunk, driving herself under the wheels of a semi!) So how was it her father's fault? Aunt Fran took it to court and demanded custody. The judge said No, and ordered Aunt Fran into grief counseling. Father & Daughter then moved across the country to live in a different state.... To the day she died, Aunt F would trash talk everyone involved about how her granddaughter was "stolen" from her.
Is that what happened here? Probably not, but without knowing WHY the father made his choices, you can't just pass judgment. It could be something as simple as when the child sees her grandparents she has upsetting dreams about losing her mother. Maybe the child is in grief counseling, and time away was recommended...
Just remember we are only being told one viewpoint... not the whole story.

What if the child is being abused how would anyone know. Sounds like the parent has the right to keep their child hostage. How could sound minded people make such laws.

As much as it seems unfair, grandparents have no rights and they should not as long as the parent or parents have full custody. Parents should have the protection of law to ensure they can decide what is best with the raising of their children. End of story.

It's sad for the little girl if she had good grandparents,
(but I'm thankful that my ex's parents didn't have any laws to force themselves on my daughter... it's one of those cases where "Every child deserves a parent/grandparent, but not every parent/grandparent deserves a child")
but do you really think that dragging your personal disputes into the public is going to be good for this child? Congratulations, you've just set her up for bullying at school and a lot of uncomfortable situations from mean-spirited people. And probably made her father very angry and less likely to want you around.
