- I never knew why companies like Gibson, Fender and Ernie Ball would stop making a bass that worked... especially for the money... Lets talk about it.

Great question. For me it was the Ernie Ball Music Man Cutlass Bass. It has a large pole P pickup. When I was able to afford to buy one, they stopped making them. Why? I think Lobster has one of the few still around.
I think it was hard to justify buying a more expensive P without a Fender logo on the headstock. I liked the Cutlass too but couldn't afford it.
I had one. It was a nice bass; but still a p bass.
I was going to mention the Cutlass as well. The EBMM Caprice is another one I wish they still made.
@@CatsNCowsWhat prompted you to sell it off?
I was going to mention Peavey Cirrus... I heard they're coming back
Was going to say the same 😂😂😂😂
Please! I love those basses!
From $3000 tho 😢
Is Peavey making ANY basses anymore?
Are they really!?!?!?
Enjoy you and seeing your bass collection Bully. Always like how chill you are when you say your name in the beginning.
Hopefully this finds you on a day you need it , love the channel/ respect to the unique bass community you’ve help build and thank you for being you . 🤙🏼
Well I should say that one bass that was discontinued was fender dimension bass that bass was a lot of fun
So they could release the meteora I think
The Peavy T-40 would be cool to see remade and it would be a super bonus if it was made less heavy than the original
Man Oh Man!!! Bring back some Traben models. I’m not asking for any of the crazy bridges, but the Chaos 4 and 5 string models would be incredible in 2024
@RedSmolka I would love to see Traben come back with the Phoenix 5….
I love the Ibanez EDA , I have a two 4 strings ( one's broken but its my first bass I bought with my own money) and a 5, theres a purple fretless model out there I wouldn't mind getting my hands on. I understand its maybe a bit niche but Ibanez brought back the Afrima a few years ago and that's just a wooden EDA.
🎯Great Question!🎯
Ovation magnum bass comes to mind. If they made a less ugly body that was neck thru and modern electronics (with same pickups ) that thing would slap so damn hard.
Thanks for the commentary, playing and opening this discussion.
I’ll tell you right now why they discontinue that base. Because most people thought it was Fugly lol sounds like a monster but that base looks like it’s from another planet and I think that was too much for most people. I’m very curious as to why the Harley Benton, J and JP series are not available anymore. They don’t seem to be making them anymore. I wonder if that has something to do with area, and the fact that they were basically the same as the Detroit series basis from them?
Sabre bass is another one. Smaller, more comfortable to play, cooler looking and more versatile than the stingray. A Sabre 5 string with a big Al single in the neck position would also be awesome. They’re both highly sought after models one would think E.B. Would do well with reintroducing &/or updating.
Ernie Ball and Peavey hurt my soul, when they discontinued the StingRay Classic 5 and the USA Cirrus 5 respectively. I had both those joints and had to let them go for financial reasons. I got my money back up some years later and went to the websites only to find that they were discontinued. I got a Sterling Ray 25, but it is not the same. I heard that Peavey is bringing back the Cirrus, but not the USA made model.
Yeah, bummer no USA but indo stuff is pretty good lately as we all know... we'll see 🤞
Goldie is a beauty! Sweet looking bass!
And I remember when I first started my collection, I thought I had reached the pinniacle in my young age when I had my 3 Cirrus basses (Flame Maple 5, Redwood 6, Bubings Fretless). Great basses, and love that plush green case interior!
On you demo, all the sounds were good, but the bridge & Neck sound was really funky sounding. I liked that sound! Epiphone need to make a Ripper/ Grabber, Peavey needs to bring back the Cirrus and Fender needs to bring back the Dimension.
If the Ernie Ball / Sterling Music man Stingray 5 ceased to exist, I would probably migrate to a Yamaha 5 string. Preferably with maple fretboard and black painted body. That OR a G&L 5 string single H pickup, from the Leo fender factory. ❤
Supposedly Peavey is bringing back the Cirrus, but it’s going to be built in the Czech Republic and cost over 2 grand. I feel like they should have stared with one of their lower tier models like the Millennium or the Grind to see if people were interested in Peavey basses. They’ve been pretty much absent from the market for years.
Traben basses were cool when they were around. Unfortunately the company doesn’t exist anymore.
The way peavy went is wack and sad !!! 😞 love ya bully💯👋
It is funny that you used the Bongo as an example of basses still made that probably shouldn't be. I have met three people that have owned and played a Bongo and all 3 said they did not like the bass. One thing I would like to get is a Flying V bass, but I like the Jackson King V shape better.
I haven't played the newer versions of the Ibanez TMB basses, but I'm baffled as to why Ibanez would discontinue the TMB300 for the TMB30 and TMB100. I'm glad I picked up a used one for a good price a few years back.
I'm with you on the Big Al. For me, bring back the Ibanez ATK.
I love the Big Al but maybe the looks turned some people off. I think it would be cool if they did the whole three pick up system from the Big Al, but put it into a more traditional looking Stingray. I think that might be a big seller.
Great topic. For me it's the Guild M-85
I don't know why, but I love the Fender Dimensions lol. They're weird little ugly ducklings but they always played so nicely!
Sad that Gibson discontinued their T Bird 😢
Your voice sounds a lot better than the last person I was just listening to, my ears hurt after listening to them.
I have a music man with a humbucker in the bridge position and a single coil in the
Neck position. I love it and they don't make it anymore.
I think you answered your own question , probably price of production and if they don't move them ? Maybe they'll make another run in a few years with a different body shape more appealing to the masses. Do you have a Stu Hamm in your collection?
Great topic. I really miss the Shecter Stargazer.
We need the big AL back so dayum badly!!! Glad to see you post a video Bully keep ‘em comin!! don’t sleep on the Bongo tho it’s one of the baddest basses I’ve ever owned I promise
Ibanez ATK series for me. Still have an ATK since 1994 and would love to get a new one but in 5 string.
The Big Al is the bass that I want back, or a stingray classic but with ceramic pickups 5 string options that includes string through body
I wish Ibanez would bring back the Saber bass models, so freaking comfy and fast. Comfiest neck/body combo I’ve ever played and SRs just ain’t the same.
I had a Peavey G Bass... I still don't know why I sold it. It was going for a lot more than I bought it for and I figured that there was no reason for a bedroom player to own it. I also didn't like the color.
It had a Cirrus preamp, and although it wasn't as nicely spec'd as a Cirrus it played and sounded so beautiful.
Bro this bass is so good man, i creamed when i heard the neck and bridge together wpw
Maybe music man could make a left-hand 5 string sting ray special? Or at least one of the nicer sterlings? Is it really that hard to reverse the CAD file?
Epiphone is supposed to be reissuing the Grabber sometime this year for $999 without the sliding pickup so it's kinda Ripper like? I wish MM would bring back the Sterling H/S (Humbucker+Single) model.
we'd like to see more about BIG AL, please make more vids about it!
They get discontinued because then they can later 'reissue' them for more money in the future and since they were popular, they are a guaranteed sale.
Love the triple p
That's an awesome bass!
I always wanted a Big Al because of the 3 pickup system.
I wanted a Peavey Fury V in green so badly.
I would like to see the Mark Hoppus Jazz basses to come back. The made a relaunch of the Tom Delonge strat, so why not do a relaunch of the bass as well? They are cool!
I'm guessing they discontinued the Big Al because they didn't sell enough of them to justify continuing the line. I wanted one really bad when they were available but I had other priorities at the time, so I missed out.
I would love to send you and lobster a pair of discontinued OLP 5s (Musicman copies prior to Sterling SUB) that I have severely modified - I took two maple neck fives and de-fretted, filled lines, epoxy-coated, kellingsound passive electronics) - they are my funk/funk/acid jazz basses.
Question: Does the neck pickup get in the way for you when you're thumpin' (string/magnet contact, popping real estate, etc)? I can thump any of my basses but the ones that have pickups close to the neck like that (my Stingray HH, T40, Ric, a few others) are the least comfortable slap basses for me
It certainly can.
I love the Big Al. I just assume there wasn't enough demand for them. You don't often see folks playing the guitar that originated the Big Al either (the Albert Lee sig). Both of the Albert Lee body guitars are still in production though, so who knows? They made a big deal about the Reflex when that came out and I've never seen anyone play them!
I wish I could remember the name of the band, but the bassist used a Big Al and her tone was incredible. Just huge in the mix.
Fender Mustang Pawn Shop bass with the fat humbucker in the middle position like a P bass. Or a Fujigen Mighty Power double P
Peavey T-40
Do you think 18v onboard preamps are better than 9v onboaed preamps?
Hi bully,,Gibson grabber 3!
I'm sure its been said; big reason for discontinuing has to do with sales figures (to a company thats their popularity scale). I've loved the big Als, though never played em. Reminds me of something Bootsy would play - akin to his space basses.
For me, think it'd be cool if EBMM brought the Sabre back. As much as they do the Stingray with dual humbuckers, idk the body shape looks/feels too small for it. The sabre looks awesome with dual humbuckers. Menacing, & beastly :) out of your gibson grabber/ripper discontinued basses, i've built my own (including a G3, though i gave that one away. Id build another one different). I will say, i got a chance & bought a 75 grabber along with its og hard case for stupid dollar (cheap). Fixed the broken truss rod, gave it a refret, changed a few original compoments (bridge saddle height screws, output jack - still have all the originals in a bag), & this thing destroys! Its got beef, bark, & sizzle. Really great bass, main one with my pbasses.
Otherwise, fender Dimension basses i found cool. I'm not big on the jazz bass compares to a pbass, but the Dimension had the offset jazz style, but smaller trim like a pbass. Loved em, if i found a squier version (or a good deal on an mim), with the active eq, id go for it in a heartbeat
USA Cirrus and a Fernandes APB 100
The fender elite
New German Warwicks with wenge necks at reasonable prices.
have you ever played a gibson G3 , on another note i gotta gibson ripper for $700 pickup were fried aftermarket ugly pickguard lame rewiring and needed fret job, but i got it then put a lot work in :) , still wanna g3 n grabber , cij Fender Aerodyne, peavey t40
Goldie is fire 🔥 I need a gold bar like that ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love my Big Al
ibanez mc 924 for sure
I saw Randy Jackson playing that bass
How are you going to bring up musicman discontinued without bringing up the cutlas, the only Pbass musicman ever made. I saw one at a guitar center about 10 years ago for $1400 and I’m still mad that I didn’t throw it on a credit card but back then I wasn’t into p basses. Damn
Didnt they release those like 2 years ago. Lowendlobster has or had one.
WE NOT BONGO BASHIN
We aren't bashing... I am.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂@@BullyThaKidd
whats the actual reason for not liking them, genuinely curious@@BullyThaKidd
@Blakeadam52 I played one and it sliced my hand open... pretty bad actually.. and I think it's kinda ugly compared to a stingray or a big al
@@BullyThaKidd dude that sucks. I definitely wouldn’t be trying to play a bass that cut me open. Ive played about 10 of them and love them play wise, maybe ill send you mine when i get one so you can hopefully get a better experience (ill make sure its not setup by master shredder) 😂😂 as for them being ugly, i wont argue that AT ALL. theyre ugly as sin, but for some reason i dig it.
