    Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is artistic director of Royal Ballet of Flanders as well as artistic director of his own company, Eastman, and associate artist at Sadler's Wells. Cherkaoui's style is eclectic, drawing on his training in many different styles of dance, from ballet to hip-hop via tap, jazz and flamenco. So, his new work, created on The Royal Ballet, will bring yet further, new stylistic fusions to the Company repertory and the Royal Opera House stage.
    Cherkaoui has created more than fifty works for companies including Les Ballets C de la B, Dutch National Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Paris Opera Ballet and Martha Graham Dance Company. His works often explore themes of cultural difference, religion and spirituality. For example, Sutra (2008) was created in collaboration with artist Antony Gormley and the Shaolin Monks. Following its world premiere at Sadler's Wells, Sutra continues to be performed across the world.

      Natasha, or 'Tasha, is the diminutive form or nickname of Natalia, in the Russian language. Like Masha can be short for Maria, Irinishka, "short" for Irina, or Choura, short for Alexandra. Both names in every instance are correct, and refer to the same individual. Examples in English - Beth or Liz for Elizabeth, Chrissie for Christina, Meg for Megan, Dottie for Dorothy, Josh for Joshua, Zach for Zachariah, Nate for Nathan... do you get the idea?

    • @avesraggiana
      @avesraggiana Před 5 lety +1

      Skeptics we love you anyway Vladamir - Volodya; Alexander - Sasha; Yuri - Yurochka; Mikhail - Misha; Galina - Galya; Tamara - Tata; Tatiana - Tanya; Boris - Borya; Vitaly - Vita; Svetlana - Svyeta...I don’t know which two definitions you’re pointing out nor how different they are. The familiar or diminutive forms of each formal first name is generally used among friends or people who are friendly with each other. The great ballerina Natalia Makarova introduced herself in one of her documentaries by saying, “Hello, my name is Natalia Makarova, but my friends call me ‘Natasha’”.

    • @avesraggiana
      @avesraggiana Před 5 lety +10

      It's no different from calling Nathan or Nathaniel, Nate. Natasha or 'Tasha is just a nickname in Russian for Natalia. It's only in English that Natasha is considered a different name from Natalia.
