Many congratulations for your success. As someone with several family members who are alcoholics I have seen how hard it is conquer an addiction. My nephew has struggled since he was a teen but after multiple stints in rehab and years in therapy he has been sober for several years and is now a certified counselor.
To everyone who struggles all I can say is don't give up and ask for/take all the help that's available.

That's not necessarily true. I screwed up time and time again and someone could have said the same thing about me. I truly was sorry for the things I had done but I was weak because I didn't have a good foundation of anything else. I made a lot of the same mistakes over and over and did some very bad things but in the moment I just did them, and even when I didn't get caught I truly regretted it. Looking at her I kinda agree with you, but maybe she's just really struggling and weak. Either way there's consequences for her actions and she needs to face them, but saying for sure her level of regret isn't a surety.

This is a pretty common talent of a lot of women (some, NOT all, NOT all, but some)!! Those who have learned how to get their way through tears or smiles and have done so for years, are the most talented at it. My ex wife damn near deserved academy awards for her acting skills, especially her “on/off valve” on the tears. She was pulled over for speeding once when we first started dating, I was in the passenger seat (almost the last time I was ever in the passenger seat with her)… as the officer is approaching the car, she calmly turns to me and says “time for crying now”… to be shock the tears start coming down her cheeks. In the 20 seconds it took for the officer to arrive at the door, she was full blown tears and hysteria. It was quite truly and incredible thing to watch, the cop absolutely let her off. A minute after driving away, she’s laughing and bragging telling me how she’s “done this a 100 times”. That’s the first RED FLAG 🚩 I missed, there were many more to come that I kept on ignoring! 🤷‍♂️
I believe that sometime between grade 6 and grade 9, girls are taken to some secret crying class where guys aren’t allowed to attend. There they are taught how to turn them on and off at will and the benefits of doing so! 😂 My ex is definitely an honored alumni of those classes and could be a top professor by now. 😂🤣

For her sake I hope she gets some real help and isn't just sent to AA, which has a worse success rate than the rate of no treatment at all, as determined by George Valiant, in a study contracted by AA itself. Until they buried it. Like everyone the "program" has failed. AA has a worst success rate than nothing because it's not a treatment program, it's an ego battering cult.
There are better interventions for alcoholics involving both medications and cognitive and behavioral therapy. There is no reason to subject people to playing Russian roulette with AA.

I have been driving for over 45 years. Never had an accident, a ticket, pulled over, no interaction with the police or the courts. 2 months ago, I was driving home from work, someone cut me off after riding my tail for 3 miles, zipped around me then cut me off. I took it personal and decided I was going to treat him to the same scare. Bad choice. I got in front of him and cut him off only to realize I was not far enough ahead of him and side-swipped him. We pulled over, call ed the police, I received a wreck-less driving ticket. All it takes is a moment to not be in control. All it takes is not paying attention and trying to exact revenge, and it all went bad. I think my lucky stars that no one was hurt, I told the man I was totally irrational and he didn't deserve that. I also told him... who am I to interrupt your day, we do not know each other, and I should have just let it go, you may have had an emergency. The guy showed up for my court appearance and told the judge He was the cause of my lapse in judgement, and the judge talked to us both in private and reduced my ticket to a minor traffic offense. We worked out the damages and the Judge called us both a week later to see how we were doing. A good judge, and a good lesson for both of us. The gentleman (Erik) and I have become friends. (Yes, I paid a fine and the damages, the insurance was also kind enough to understand the situation thanks to the judge speaking with them, and there is an increase on my insurance for 1 year.)

When you take probation, or enter into an agreement with the court, it's only a trap if you don't have the intention to comply . If you think your gonna play around and skate, your wrong. I also know how difficult my life became when I was an alcoholic. I had a serious problem from 21 to 34 when I got a DUI. No one was hurt and I am thankful for that. It was very expensive financially, mentally and emotionally. I still never quit. Is there really a new job at all?
As regards her children...is one of them of an age to be making and handing out alcoholic drinks? But isn't of an age to be able to mind theirself for 3 days?
I'm not at all a fan of having kids on their own but by the time I was in 10th grade I absolutely could look after myself for 3 days. And I could look after younger kids too - I'd been babysitting kids of all ages for years by that time. And I wasn't nearly old enough to be making drinks with alcohol.
Also, is there a father? There isn't one who wants custody, because if he did, he'd have it now for certain.
So either the father is dead, which means the children are in the sole care of an alcoholic mother - which must be terrifying for them. Or they have a deadbeat father and are in the sole care of an alcoholic mother - which must be terrifying for them.
With a heavy drinking mother the poor kids probably do a lot of looking after themselves already.

Whereas the child's own MOTHER had zero problem with that.
And the police officer/lawyer/judge would understand that the poor child would be leaned on the mother, and if he or she failed to lie for the mother, he or she would be horribly punished afterwards.

None the less, actions have consequences regardless of what stage you are at and what difficulty it causes you later, there are still consequences. This poor lady is so fortunate to have not killed anybody, even herself or her kids, and to have Judge Simpson on her side and honestly trying to help her and prevent much worse from happening. The best for her is probably some time in jail. Sober up, get the help she needs, learn to truly admit that she has a problem and is a big part of it. In a better world the judge could have ordered her to immediate, long term inpatient treatment for her addiction. Unfortunately in Michigan (where Judge Jackson is based) that just isn't the case. There is a severe shortage of inpatient treatment beds and the funding to pay for them. I don't know that I would have sentenced her to jail on the first slip up and if I did I would have given a weekender where she served her time but not in such a way that she couldn't work and given her time to arrange for her children to be cared for in her absence but I might have ordered her to the police station twice a day, 12 hours apart, seven days a week for a PBT like they do out in Washington State (the state charges the defendant $2 per test). If she screws that one up, I would look more closely at bail revocation, sending the children into foster care or to a relative and her going to jail pending trial or long-term, lockdown inpatient addiction treatment if she can pay for it and it can be arranged.

1st step of recovery is to accept that you are in denial and that your life has become unmanageable. I feel bad for her. This may be the best wake-up call for her that forces her to change things for the better.

Nice to see Judge Simpson being 'hard but still relatively lenient sentencing' on a defendant, and in a way that (hopefully) they understand he's doing it for their long term benefit. To get her to admit and explain should go a long way to help her, if she really wants help! Clever social engineering on his part, but that's what a lot of court time is about I guess. Great video, thanks. ;)

Agreed. Hopefully it will be a wake-up call for her. People who are generally law abiding don't need a severe wake-up call. Now we will see if she will drop her "everyone feel so sorry for me" routine and reform.

If you get a sentence of thirty days or less, our local courts let you serve it on the weekends- report after work on Friday, stay locked up until Sunday night. The jailers hate it, but the court figures you have a lesser chance of recidivism (and a better chance of paying your fines and court costs) if you don't lose your job.

I agree and was hoping that he would give her a couple of weekends to serve for her to find out just how much fun jail is, but it does no one any favors for her to lose her job when she is released from jail. I hope she has good people in her new job and they will stick with her thru this. She needs the boost in confidence a supporting employer could be for her. They can play an important role in her recovery. This has to be one of the hardest things for judges to do. But it is the right thing, kudos to Judge Simpson, I know he finds no joy in this.

There was a short and sweet court appearance on judge Middleton's channel where a guy who violated his probation got exactly that, a few days fo jail to serve on the weekends. Iirc he was a construction worker with four kids and a stable marriage, and it was probably a first offense, so judge Middleton went light on him.

She claims that her kid gave her the drink disguised in some type of soft drink, and she did not know there was alcohol in it, nor could taste it. (Clearly, she could not taste it as she had a second) After sentencing, she cries that she has no one to take care of her kid. Just how old is this "kid" who spikes his mother's soft drink and needs to be taken care of??!

I absolutely love how she comes back after the judge gives her an opportunity to be honest and keeps lying. All he wanted you to say was yes, I fucked up. I drank. I knew there was something in there but I didn’t expect to be tested and felt like I could beat the system. You have to wonder how many days she skips the Naltraxone or how many people in AA know about her relapse? She clearly hasn’t gotten brutally honest yet. Hopefully she gets there because there is freedom on the other side from what I have seen. The most telling thing to me is saying that it won’t happen again because it just won’t. She hasn’t even admitted to the first step. She WILL drink and drug whether or not she wants to if she doesn’t dive headfirst into the program. She needs inpatient. She needs a sponsor. She needs to do the work completely honestly. In my own opinion she doesn’t think she has a problem. She thinks she will be able to curb this disease with simply willpower. But like a true alcoholic no matter what is put in front of her, be it jail time or losing her kids or her liver giving out, she will still drink. None of that is sufficient enough to effect a change in her behavior. She just thinks with the tears and the “I’m sorry” that the judge will just look the other way and feel sorry. He doesn’t feel sorry because he has heard it all before and see in her the same pattern of other repeat violators and people who are just trying to work the system. I don’t wanna give any excuses but that’s all you’ve been doing so far. First your kid. Then you didn’t know what was in it. Then maybe I suspected something. Then I’m not a bad person and don’t get in trouble. You were literally 3x the legal limit and hit someone. You absolutely deserve to be locked away somewhere, be it jail or rehab to fully accept your irresponsibility and how you potentially could have killed someone because you thought it was a wise idea to get behind the wheel and drive around a 2 ton wrecking ball with wheels.
Judge is a savage though with that burn at the end. She deserves it though.

He was extremely lucky no injuries when he crashed his car. When all said and done he got a blow & go in his car and never had a warning for the nine months and it cost him $30,000 for his actions,I’m thankful he didn’t hurt anyone because of his choices 😍today he’s been doing amazing and hasn’t forgot this lesson .

that was hard to watch, I feel for her but I feel for her kids even more. I hope this makes her see the writing on the wall. I cant pass any judgement or throw stones. There for the grace of God go I. I surely could have been in her shoes back in my younger days, I was lucky, very lucky. I wasnt an alcoholic but I drank often, I drove, at times with my kids in the car. I know how lucky I was. I stopped cold when my oldest son was grown and watched him slip into the throws of alcoholism. I was his safe place to come when he needed the support. I kept a alcohol free place for him, and kept his keys so he couldnt drive or go to the liquor store. I finally had him convinced to go to an inpatient detox and rehab, and on the day before he was to go, while he was detoxing and hallucinating in the night at his dads house, he followed Robin Williams and took his own life. Leaving me to go to his dads the next morning and find my son barricaded in his room dead. I havent drank more than a glass of wine rarely since. I just have no interest. And I miss my child terribly every day since Aug 20, 2014. His birthday is tomorrow, May 27th and we should be going out for lunch to celebrate as we had done for years. My son should be here celebrating his 36th birthday with his mom, he should be married and bringing me grandbabies to babysit. I should not be taking a cupcake and candle to the cemetery.
So I am glad Judge Simpson did the hard thing, the right thing and gave her a couple of days to experience the small consequences of her choices. Cause I can assure you that there are in fact much harsher consequences than this. I hope this snaps her awareness into reality and she makes some changes. I dont want anyone to experience losing the things they love the most, no one should have to wear the ugly shoes I wear. The ugly shoes I cannot change, the shoes of a grieving mother in a hell that will not get better. I must put on these shoes every single day for the rest of my life.
