  • "Oh Lauder It's Rifkind". 1996. From Rory Bremner - Who Else ?
I love this song, but don't know why it wasn't subtitled. Here's my best effort (any corrections welcomed) :
There was a voter, a Scottish voter
Who used to vote for me, but now votes SNP
He was our glory, the only Tory
Left north of Berwick on the Twee (I'm terribly sorry, that should be Tweed)
He was our voter, you've seen his photo
In party literature, a vivid portraiture
He changed his story, he'll not vote Tory
For all the meths in Aberdeen
    ????????, are not Tory votes
We've got sod all left south of John O'Groats
We've got iota, nowhere to go to
    Except our English constituency
I've just come back from Brussels town
My face is red and my trousers brown
I haven't a policy to call my own ["have nae"]
    And frankly no excuses
Let the summits come and the summits go
I never say yes and I never say no
I'm a Euro ghostly one man show
But silly beggars can't be choosers
You take the high ground and I'll take the low ground
And I'll get the arms sales before you ["afore you"]
    For money muck-old missiles
    A Saudi ??? again
And the banks are making money on the rebound
