Some people wanted me to give an update. My car is now over four years old, and it has had one problem which was an oil leak on one of the turbos. Since the time I made this video, I added a 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 to my garage, which is a thrilling car. I love it. But the truth is I still get more laugh-out-loud joy from my Giulia QV. It's so friggin' fun!

This review was what tipped me over in getting a QV. Traded a used 2019 Giulia Ti Lusso that I had 7 months for a new 2021 QV. What a great video! I work at an Alfa and Maserati dealership and people always complain that they aren't reliable and they use some bits and pieces from the FCA parts bin. So what? These are small manufacturers and it's a no brainer to use parts that already exist and work fine. These Italian cars are about the sound and experience they provide more than anything. They also provide brand prestige, Alfa Romeo just turned 110 years old!! How many brands can say that and have a long racing heritage? Without FCA's help these amazing brands wouldn't exist today, so let's forgive a few switches shall we.

Great review that really resonates with my own experience. I wish some parts of the motoring media would cut some slack on Alfa reliability. It's a cheap story to write and it is not fair when viewed alongside so many other vehicles. This is by far the most reliable car I have ever owned. It's been in the garage ONCE in 4 years for an unscheduled service and that was for the throttle-body issue which you mentioned. Fixed and not a heartbeat wrong since then. Honestly, if a car were to sell on its driving merits alone, the Giulia should sell 10x more cars than it does right now. For me, I'm happy there are not too many on the roads because I like driving something that is not your everyday ignorable, bland vehicle. For Alfa Romeo I really hope it puts them back on the bucket list for people looking at their next car. Such a good vehicle.

I have the EU 2.0 200bhp that was chipped to 300bhp-ish. The 280bhp here was only available in AWD, wanted an RWD car, and the engines are pretty much the same anyway except for the software, so...
      A few things to note:
      - the suspension is softer than the QV, although I also have the dynamic sports suspension. In D it stiffens up a bit, but when I drove a QV, the D suspension mode there felt a bit stiffer. Race mode goes even further.
      - it doesn't have the Race mode (and no way to turn off traction control)
      - it doesn't come with the carbon fiber stuff (except for the driveshaft, which is carbon fiber on every Giulia)
But it is a fantastic daily driver which is loads of fun to drive, only the 200bhp was holding the car back a lot. The chiptune also disabled the start-stop completely so yay!

This is my dream garage right there: Porsche 911 and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. You have good tastes, sir!
As for the reliability of the Giulia, there’s no denying that Alfa has really upped their game in recent years. Ironically, as you’ve showcased in the video, Porsche seems to have fallen in reliability themselves as their cars have become more and more complex over the last two decades or so. Or maybe, in this case, it’s due to the influence of VW/Audi into the company culture. Either way, the Giulia seems like a great buy for a car enthusiast, while the 911 is still a classic for the deep-pocketed of us that don’t want to go all silly teenager mode with an Avantador or something like that (Aston Martin is also a great choice in that regard, I think).

So excited to have the Twin Turbo Quad in the garage now. Great review!! I am 50 years old and in the market for my first real sports car, I am considering a 2017. Giulia Quadrafoglio for 45k usd with 23 thousand miles on the clock, it worries me a little that it might have some hidden issues but saving 35k thousand from a brand new Giulia sounds like an attractive proposition.

Perfect Alfa review, can't wait to see your reviews in Consumer Reports as I agree with , on payroll or which manufacturer takes out the most advertisements in their magazines gets the trophy

The F154 V8 uses twin scroll manifolds..4 cylinders per bank. Spilt in 2 each side. The giulia engine uses single scroll manifolds..being a V6 with 3 cylinders per bank instead of 4 cylinders per bank in the V8 , its cant spilt the ports evenly. Hence the single scroll usage for the giulia engine. Still has almost no lag. And pulls like a train to the limiter.

Great to hear what sounds like a researched discussion of Alfas. I owned a Alfa Romeo Duetto Syder-"The Graduate Style"- "long ago" which was the most fun car driven and that has had the strongest hold on my memories over the years. (Now it is a Toyota Avalon for lack of hassle as you mentioned--Along the way was Jag XKE Soft Top Roadster & 68 Corvette T-Top new style at the time.) My Alfa had a bit of a temperamental nature. However, like fine wine, beautiful women, handsome men, etc. it was incredible fun, satisfying & is missed greatly. It may be an appropriate feeling that parallels seeking great personal sound at a somewhat reasonable cost (all things being relative, of course). I would not have guessed the Alfa aspect of you Kevin or considered the Hi-Fi Sound Association, other than both can be costly. I certainly can see where they could go hand in hand. I thought this video was neat, given the maligning about durability that goes on about Alfa Romeo in The States.
Have enjoyed your videos & worldly company considerations of equipment along with help from Kat and others in your organization as some hi-fi upgrading has become a renewed hobby in these later years and the current circumstances we are all living with.

Great Video, I've had my Quadrifoglio since March 2017 and it's been near faultless :) Also very into HI-Fi although so far my closest flirtation with tubes is just a phone stage incorporating some tubes. Subscribed!

Great video with a lot of truths about how good Alfas are these days. Most are still stuck in the 80s and 90s when ALL cars rusted and broke down. Interesting about the Technical issues, 11 vs over 200 and the way the press don't report things like this. I've a QV too and I'm like you, I just can't stop looking at it. Again, great video, but you do know once the secret of how good these cars are, especially from a reliability point of view, they arn't going to be as exclusive as at the moment. :-)

Well, that's a little judgemental. I got a work permit at the age of 12, and have worked very hard now for 52 of my 64 years of living. I've been fortunate that Upscale Audio is one of the most successful companies in the country. However, I have a lot of friends who own stores, and while many squeeze out an OK living, the vast majority go broke. We've lost half the dealers that we had 15 years ago.
There's a joke in audio, and it goes like this: How do you make a small fortune in High End audio? Start with a large fortune.

Great review, thank you. I have a 2017 QV in Trofeo white. It to had a few electrical hiccups when I bought it, which were quickly ironed out under warranty and not an issue since. All other German cars I’ve owned have had costly mechanical issues - Audi being the worst, followed by BMW. It’s a pleasure to drive everyday and always puts a smile on my face. I’d love more details on what you did to improve the audio - agree its average at best - although I do find it improves dramatically depending on the input. Streaming from Frisky Radio which is high-res sounds much than other sources.
