    -Default position is in the bottom left corner for some reason
    -Roundness doesn't work with easings because it's a checkbox
    -Minor glitch where changing a keyframe causes the vignette to dissapear
    until you scroll back on the timeline (idk it's a weird bug)
    -The intensity is very strong for what is actually needed
    -Actually thats a point that applies to a lot of effects in this game
    -You can't change the color of the vignette (nvm this one got added)
    -It's like super late but man the new effects are amazing
    -Can you tell this entire video is a first edit
    -Umbra, I'm sorry, please be too mad for the vignette thing,
    it was for a bit

    You forgot the biggest problem of them all:
    Trying to complete -My Time At Portia- another game because PA had made you forgot about that game and not experiencing its full potential so you decide to reinstall and finish and immerse yourself into the former game first which ironically makes you forget about PA and that you have to complete a level before April starts and then you just remember you still have school.

    This tutorial is amazing! Its nice to have a full tutorial of the editor in one video, as well as one with this level of editing and writing. The intro hits hard, you can't listen to a song the same way ever again after you've heard every part of it over and over trying to sync things up right...
    Also, since the game has updated since the tutorial has been made (52:30), here are some changes that have happened.
    -Levels no longer require you to change versions in order to play them since the most recent version of the game is the default one
    -In order to use the editor you have to change the version to "Legacy", using dev to upload levels is still the same
    -DO NOT USE THE ALPHA EDITOR TO MAKE A LEVEL. Currently, almost none of the features work and you can't create or save levels.

    Looks absolutely impossible to use just by looking at it, but after years of practice, you'd have a better question instead of "how can i do this?" to "what can I not do?"

    So I just came by this video and I do have a couple of things I want to add for the last point-
    I don't know if the stigma has changed since I've been ex-communicated by the community, but when I was there, there was this entire thing that people wanted to be the next big thing.
    People only ever really created for fame and not for fun since there was this bar set.
    With this bar there came expectations to create a "good" level- which in turn caused people to become demotivated and stray away from level creating (such as myself). As more and more people came into the community, standards started rising- and I wouldn't even consider it ols' fault. Ol just created things and attracted people to PA, a side effect in retrospect, but with that many people fluctuating standards are set.
    As someone who stopped creating a while ago and only visits PA to see what new things have been made, it all seems soulless- people making things just to make things using "fun" as an excuse. I've since moved on to the Soundodger community where everyone supports the "make it for fun" mindset where no standards are set and it's much more lively and chill. It's what I hope PA can achieve, in all honesty.
    Sorry if this seems very uncalled for- just personal observations put into a CZcams comment. Everything in this comment can change eventually, and if my opinions change, I won't change this comment lol

    • @mountain-1
      @mountain-1  Před 2 lety +3

      @LockDrop I'm not well aware of what the community used to be like, because I think you left right around the time I entered, but nowadays the chance to get popular off of a level is honestly much slimmer than it was 2 years ago. I think anyone who joined the community for the sake of being the next Black Heart or whatever naturally fizzled out when views started declining and when levels started becoming more "soulless" (I actually do kind of agree with you that the quality of levels of the last year has kind of been on the decline with a bunch of exception but that's a whole video unto itself).
      Making levels for fame and making level for fun basically have the same problem of, "yeah it can work as a motivator, but its kind of bad if that's your only reason." Even something like "I have this idea that I like so much that I want to show it to other people" is still probably better than just fame or fun alone, because both of them are either going to have you be burnt out really quickly or you'll just get bored of it easily. I don't agree that the push to create "good" levels has dampened the quality, though, I see the problem coming from HOW it was pushed. Art isn't always fun, art shouldn't always be fun, at least if you want to improve. If people have a passion for creating levels, I think they will naturally want them to be the best that they can be, not out of any desire for views although that can certainly be a factor, but out of whatever reason they have for creating in the first place.
      I said that I viewed the editor less as Mario maker (Soundodger would also apply but idk I haven't seen much of it) and more as an art program and that's because I view levels as art. And like actual art, its really not a good idea to get into it for money. It requires a passion that drives you to create, this causes levels to become a lot more of a time sync if you want to improve and get better. But none of that should matter because they don't have to take a year to make, people only think they do because they want to be as good as ol or noodle or whoever. But if you know what your doing, you can still make a perfectly great level in a short amount of time. One of my top 10 favorite levels was made in a little less than a month and the level that followed that which took 5 months was honestly a let-down in comparison (not gonna name who it was).
      At the same time, just like art, I think it's fine for it to be stupid or shitpost-y, whatever the creator felt like making more in the moment, because at least the creator had some kind of an idea and passion behind it.
      If it's about people becoming too critical, or wanting levels to be ol standard. You don't have to grow at the pace that they want, you don't have to listen to anyone when they start critiquing your levels or saying its not good enough. If you are happy with the content you made, then consider that ready for uploading, asking other people is an option you have for wanting to get better at it.
      I also won't lie to you that the PA community has its problems, hell I know that this video basically acted as one giant advertisement for the VG server, but I only frequent like 4 channels and most of the people I'm friends with aren't even active in it anymore. But personally, that's fine with me, because my reason for creating was never for the community aspect of it, although it was a big reason why I got into it when I started. Talking about the stuff you make is fun, and I won't lie that its gotten a lot harder to talk about the stuff I've made due to the community kind of spreading out into different servers, its not as connected as it used to be I think. But there are still plenty of places where people are generally chill about level making.
      As for Soundodger, again never played it, only seen a couple of video's about it, but if it has a functioning undo button in its default editor, I will move my entire storyline into it immediately. I don't even care that the two games and editors are drastically different, I just want that undo button.

      It is not unfortunately, the Undertale OST still needs verification, regardless of if its a remix, the only exception I think is if the song is original enough to not even be considered a remix.

    is it possible to change themes mid level?

    • @mountain-1
      @mountain-1  Před 2 lety

      Yes, it's in the Event/Check button, then right-click anywhere on the bar labled "Theme" then you have to go and manually create one yourself otherwise it will just use the previous theme in the timeline. Make sure to click "Create New Theme" once your done picking colors or the game won't save it. After that just click on the theme keyframe and click on the name of the new theme you created.
