      How many grams is the cake?

    • @KatsHooksBrushes
      @KatsHooksBrushes  Před 2 lety +3

      @@user-nk3yu2fl7z This is a fingering weight yarn and I used up around 270 grams and according to a chart I found on Google, for fingering weight it can be 380 - 500 yards per 100 grams. Based on that, it can be approximately 1026 - 1350 yards. I’m guessing it could be on the higher end, around 1300 yrards because this yarn is very light.

      These videos make it so easy - it's just monkey see, monkey do
      Don't forget, you can always go into your settings and change the playback speed to as slow as you want so that u can get a really good look at every movement if you need to. Some of these vide-o-chéters will begin to go really fast or they play at 200% speed to get it over with or just to make it a 15-20 minute video.

    • @kayceegreer4418
      @kayceegreer4418 Před 2 lety

      Do u knit? The reason I ask is if U knit Is English style it might actually be easier for you to watch a left hand crochet video and throw your thread and do your movements with your right hand censure used to that anyway even if you're right handed likewise if you are left handed knitter knitting English it would still work or you might try crocheting right hand if you are a continental Intel style knitter.
      I hope that all made sense my cataracts are bothering me too much now and I just can't really see to proofread and edit myself anymore today. I'm using voice to text and sometimes it acts like a secretary back late from a long lunch where she had one timany martoonis. LOL (hiccup).

      Hi, Ava, just practice, practice, practice. You will make lots of mistakes, as does everyone new to crochet. I was fortunate to have learned as a child although I didn’t get back to it until years later. I made some ugly creations, lol! But if you can master the basic six or seven stitches, all other stitches are combinations or modifications of those. Your yarn tension will naturally get better as you keep working on it and you will have the great advantage of hundreds of CZcams videos to demonstrate techniques and solve problems. I would recommend practicing with worsted (4) or DK (3) weight yarn at first, not too fuzzy in case you need to frog (unravel) your piece because of a mistake. Red Heart Super Saver, for instance, comes in a variety of colors and lovely color combinations and is very affordable. Some craft store brands are comparable and may even be cheaper. I hope these tips are helpful. I find new stitches and techniques on CZcams every day, which I try to learn to keep my aging brain active, lol! There is also the meditation aspect of needlework, which I find helps with agitation. Happy hooking!

    Hi, I was browsing CZcams and this stunning shawl caught my eye! Your tutorial is excellent, very well explained and demonstrated. I am wondering if you have a written pattern? Also I REALLY want the gorgeous yarn cakes you used for this pattern as well as the 10 in your unboxing video! I can’t seem to find them on line; not sure what I am doing wrong. I found your Ashley’s Crochet links to Facebook and Twitter, but couldn’t find cake yarns at all for sale. I hope I haven’t missed out on them. Thanks for any suggestions you can give me, or indeed that anyone can! All help is greatly appreciated.

    • @KatsHooksBrushes
      @KatsHooksBrushes  Před 3 lety +1

      No sorry, I don’t have a written pattern as I don’t know how to do that yet, I tired making a diagram but it was a mess, I’ll try again in the future. The Ashley’s Crochet page sells on schedule, they will post on their page what time and date they will be posting and it’s like a race, you have to comment “Mine” on the picture of the yarn you want to buy really fast because the yarn cakes are limited. Also they’re located in the Philippines, I’m not sure if they ship overseas as of the moment. You may inquire from them directly. As an alternative, Wolltraum.ch sells similar gradient cakes, I’ve seen them from orher CZcamsrs and I think they shiip to a lot of countries. I’m not sure where you are but you may look it up and see if they deliver to you. Also if you’re in the US you may check out Dreamersyarn.com also, they sell gradient cotton yarn cakes like the one I used here.

      This is a fingering weight yarn and I used up around 270 grams and according to a chart I found on Google, for fingering weight it can be 380 - 500 yards per 100 grams. Based on that, it can be approximately 1026 - 1350 yards. I’m guessing it could be on the higher end, around 1300 yrards because this yarn is very light.

      You might look for a "crocheted cape with arm slits/armholes", maybe. Or crochet your triangle and then make 2 smaller triangles with a space for the neck in between Attached to the front wings of the shawl ( Which would now make make that the shoulder the shoulder seems, And it would now have arms ... you could sew it under the arms ... Of course all of this would necessitate changing the size of the 1st triangle in the 1st place to a smaller size is smaller size)
      I'm getting dyslexic thinking about it ...
      I'm gonna have to pin some pieces of cloth together and see how that would all work out all workout all work out... See I'm going nuts trying to figure out the abstract in my head in my head cause I've never seen it done before but I kinda got this idea that I was gonna try one for my mom.
      I think bag o'day crochet channel did something like that something like that and it was pointed in the back and the front came over the shoulders and was longer in front kind of like the long cardigan on cardigan and it was square it may have even had pockets on the front. It also may have been made of Granny squares all put together of various sizes.
      I think I've seen hundreds of thousands of videos by now looking for that 1 very special project show project they may be melding together in my mind. Lol

      Yes, I think so. I suggest not to use a very small hook size because it might not appear flowy or lacy. If the yarn says recommended hook size is 2.5mm - 4mm, I usually go for at least 3.5mm to 4mm so in case my tension got super tight, it will still look a little loose. You got this! @EffervescentSunflower I don’t know where you are located but you may want to check out Kokonki yarns or Yarn Art, they have similar yarn designs, you may just google them. If what you mean is that your shawl is still smaller when you are already on row 10, maybe it’s the difference in our tension, sometimes I use a bigger hook when I feel like I’m crocheting tighter. But if you mean that the design is still not showing much and you really find fingering weight too thin, you may just try a thicker yarn, maybe a sport weight yarn, I can’t say what ply since yarns differ in thickness of strands, it’s safe to refer to the yarn weight category so the next one you can try is a sport weight yarn. I can’t suggest a brand since I don’t know what yarns are available where you are. Sorry if I can’t be much help. I hope you have something in your yarn stash like a sport weight yarn that you can try just to see if the thickness of the yarn is the issue.

      Hi. If I understand your question correctly since I only use Google translate, you want to know how many double crochets we should have when restarting row 4. So for the first repeat, that would be after row 11, so we’re talking about row 12 here, right? So for row 12, we will repeat the row 4 pattern and there should be 96 stitches for row 12 not including the chains at the tip of the triangle. If you want to check the number of stiches for each row, you can just multiply the row number by 8. So our first example there is row 12, just do 12 x 8 = 96. So for row 13 you should have 104, row 14 is 112, and so on. So you can double check all the time using this method. Row 1 has 8 stitches, row 2 has 16, row 3 has 24, etc. I hope I explained it well. Thank you for trying out this design.

I think your cake would be enough, maybe just a little smaller finished product but would still make a full shawl. I’m guessing you have a fingering weight yarn as well based on 250 grams for 1000 meters of yarn. If you want it bigger and lacy maybe you can use 4mm hook size. I used 3.75mm.

This yarn is from a local seller here in the Philippines and each colorway is usually limited to 20 cakes or less and gets sold out minutes or even seconds after posting on their Facebook page. Not sure if they ship internationally but you may check out their Facebook page for future postings but with different colorways.

      This is another seller who makes similar yarns:

      You may also Google other similar yarns that may be available to your location like yarns from Hobbii, Kokonki, and YarnArt.
