Players today have no loyalty, they just don't build like them anymore, it's a sad generation to be in, usually we just keep paying more until the club reached its limit and together make the club a giants success to earn more wages, today, screw that, need that Bugatti tomorrow.

Best thing is Italy and ac Milan in particular had him playing alongside the best defenses ever. First he'd play w Franco Baresi, probably the only one player who could compare to Maldini defensively (the defence was Tassotti, Baresi, Costacurta and Maldini which is easily the best defence in the history of the game).
Then still in Ac Milan he played w nesta, Cafu and Stam (basically all of them top 3 in their position).
One thing he was always underrated for is his strength. In some clips you can see him going against Vieri or Ibrahimovic and not feeling even slightly the difference in wheighs. Ex footballer always mention how strong he was phisically.
Last crazy fact about him is that he's actually right footed, however having played his whole career on the left side his left is as good as his right

When Zlatan moved to Juve from Ajax he was cocky as hell because of his skill... after playing against Maldini and Nesta for the first time he was SHOCKED... he went to his coach, Fabio Capello and Capello told him "you should have scored" to which Zlatan replied "I had no chances... I only had one shot and it was contested"... Capello told him "Then you did have a chance and you should have scored... that's all you get against these guys"...
Zlatan admitted that after being hugely humbled in that game against Maldini and Nesta he decided to work on his one touch scoring a lot more because he realized that dribbling Maldini was literally impossible for any human being...
To understand how INCREDIBLE Paolo Maldini was, he retired at age 39 playing his whole career for AC Milan... he won 6 Champions League titles (3 of them before it was renamed to Champions League, so it was Champions Cup back then), a shitload of Italian league Championships, a World Cup with Italy (2006, he was on the team right? Too bored to check but surely Lippi took him, right?) while participating on one more World Cup Final (1994)... At age 39 Paolo Maldini was still a top 5 defender in the world... sure, he didn't have the stamina to play full games as a starter anymore but he was still a top 5 defender IN THE FUCKING WORLD!!!
Paolo Maldini is BY FAR, the best defender of all time... it's not even fucking close... anyone that says Baresi or anybody else is just delusional... Paolo Maldini for football defenders is like Michael Jordan for Basketball... he's the GOAT and everybody else just wishes he was that good...

When young kids start playing football, positions are established by skill early on. Its common for the more skilled players to play as forwards and the less skilled players to play as defenders. Maldini was one of the very few young kids who chose to become a defender himself, despite all his coaches saying he was really skilled and he couldve easily become a forward. That technical ability was showing throughout his career and is something that most defenders dont have, even by todays standards.

U probaly whould like to react to Vidic he is also a defender, CZcams video recomendation is Van Dijk is Good...But Vidic was a BEAST!(Defense of anchor ). There are a famous saying from Robin Van Persie which is one of the best strikers in this era of football and a fellow teammate of Vidic during some of his time in Manchester United, He said: Nemanja Vidic puts his head were other people are scared of placing their feet.

His Milan team of around 2005 was arguably the greatest 11 ever to play for 1 team. It was a hall of fame player in every position. It was like USA 92 Basketball team playing together in the NBA and he was part of the greatest defensive line ever. Cafu, Nesta, Stam & Maldini.
Even for Italy he had a hall of fame defence, Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Maldini, with the goat goalkeeper in Buffon behind him.

Maldini AND Nesta! If you think, Nesta was up there with Maldini playong for Lazio, however when joining Milan because of the financial issues at the 1st team of Rome , they cemented themselves as the greatest DUO of all time.

The eternal Paolo Maldini, the best defender in history(for me),.... at the very least one of THE greatest next to Beckenbauer and Baresi. This man faced off against prtty much everybody.... Maradona in the 80s at his peak, Zidane, Ronaldo, Platini, Batistuta, Baggio, Nedved, Del Piero, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Cristiano, Zlatan, Van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry, and the list goes on and on. He pretty much just missed out on Pele, Distefano, Cruyff and Messi.
I remember watching a game where he was already 40yo and Diego Milito (around 30-31 yo) from inter milan made a great play to go past him and ran from midfield to the box, Maldini ran with 40 YEARS OLD behind Milito, caught up to him and managed to make a foul right outside the box. Got a yellow card but stopped Milito from scoring. Having that capability to bounce back after being left behind by the attacker at FORTY YEARS OLD,... i just can't process that still.

PS. he is (i think) only one of TWO players to have never played in Real Madrid AND STILL have 5 Champions Leagues. All other players with 5 Champions are ofc Real Madrid players cus of how many they've won during the 50s and in the late 2010s. Maldini and Costacurta are the only on that list that made it to 5 playing with AC Milán

But u guys need to react to Marco Verratti ! Dudes the quarter back at PSG and Italy. Dudes small, slow, short, unathletic, smokes like a yardie but bro is just next level on the ball frfr you just can't get the ball off him ! His dribbling, passing and all around intelligence is on another level ! & I genuinely think he's the closest thing out there over this last decade to Messi when it comes to dribbling, it's just crazy what this man does 💯💯

A right footed player who played at the left side but he didn't have any weak foot. People back then confused about his dominant foot. He can also attack as well as his defence. He's the 🐐 for all defence position.
And I'm sure he can pretty much occupy all outfield position except for GK and FW.

  • @dehro

what you see here, is a long video full of examples of great tackles by Maldini.
What should be pointed out is that he once said "If I have to make a tackle, I have already made a mistake"... so what you're not seeing in this video is the 2 decades of great placement and interceptions and strategic thinking that made it so that very often he didn't need to go into a tackle.
