Actually, the only reason Toriel left was because he started killing the humans that fell down. Toriel was disgusted with what he had done, and left to the ruins, so once Toriel left, there was no turning back.

Ok time for my cheesy “hidden meaning” comment Asgore has Toriel’s “Heartache” leitmotif nearly constantly through his song. Toriel’s theme is literally just heartache, but Asgore has intertwined his heartache with battle. He’s letting his Heartache flow through him while he battles. Toriel coped with the loss of her son by leaving and caring for children. Asgore coped by using his heartache for the sake of his kingdom and people, even if it was a little misguided
To think, the community would stay alive for so long that we would see Sans be ported OFFICIALLY into a different game, and Toby would jump into the fandom to do his own take on the AU idea and give us another game…we’ve basically reached the tipping point where Undertale has gone from a game with a ridiculously powerful fandom, to a part of the collective subconscious of the world. This implies that he must be pretty darn strong. Secondly, he's a boss monster. Boss Monsters are the strongest among their kind. They have certain abilities others dont, and they usually have a lot of health. Heck, in the genocide route he even survives one of your hits at lv. 20 (the max level). And don't forget that it was him who trained Undyne. And in case you didnt know, Toby Fox confirmed that all children made it _to_ Asgore, but none of them made it _past_ Asgore. Humans are a lot more powerful than monsters, and just one of them was enough to eradicate the entire population of the Underground. So that's a pretty impressive feat. After all, normal Undyne wasnt even able to handle one. There are just so many subtle hints at the fact that he's the strongest monster in the game. And don't forget that Asgore was literally at the verge of a mental breakdown when we fought him. He cries during the entire fight and refuses to look in your eyes. None of his attacks are aimed at the character. Just patterns. That means he doesnt even look at you. He doesnt even try. Heck, he even commits suicide in one version of the fight. Killing these children after loosing his own must feel absolutely terrible. The only reason he does it is because the Underground relies on him. If Undyne the Undying is determination, he's the opposite. Depression. He didnt want to win that fight, he wanted to lose it. I'm pretty sure if Asgore was mad, he would give us one hell of a fight. But just like Papyrus, he's too soft. He's a broken old man who lost his entire family and everyone he loved, a shadow of his former self. If there was a genocide version of Asgore's fight it would be without a doubt the hardest fight in the entire game. Just imagine if he transformed like Undyne, or absorbed the human souls in order to stop you. He would most likely be invincible. So no matter how I look at it, Asgore it stronger than Undyne. But that doesnt mean that Undyne is weak. She's by far the most badass character in the game (aside from sans maybe) and definitely one of the strongest monsters in the entire underground. In terms of stats and power, only Asriel could defeat her. All I'm saying is that Asgore probably once was stronger than her. Before all these terrible things happened to him and his family. This guy's been through so much. Give him a break :P

Fun Fact: There are bits of "Heartache" and "DETERMINATION" in this Soundtrack. The Heartache theme representing that you don't really want to fight, but Asgore and his sorrow forces you to fight him. The DETERMINATION theme representing that no matter what you have up ahead, you will keep going.
I think think that the heartache parts are also meant to draw a more direct link between Asgore and Toriel. Both in their physical appearance (duh) and in how they feel a similar type of regret and grief about fighting you

I really wish asgore got more screen time in undertale. Hes such a compelling character with a great story and we only see him for like 5 minutes at the end of the game.
It baffles me that some people hoenslty think the Asgore Fight is underwhelming. Like... no, that's objectively wrong in my opinion. If you ask me it's the single best fight in the game. The music, obviously slaps hard, best track in the game. The line "Human... It was nice to meet you. Goodbye." is one of the hardest hitting lines in any game ever. The fact he destroys the Mercy button out of the belief he's unworthy of Mercy. The fact he stops attacks early on account of your HP dropping to 1. The fact the Pie gives him flashbacks. The fact he's crying in his sprite. The fact he knows about Resets. His entire backstory. The buildup. The tone. The atmosphere. The design. Literally everything in the fight is 10/10.

The king in the mountain... the one who denies himself mercy... I feel like no other fan arrangement of his fight theme truly captures the emotions he would have felt.
I've been making a playlist that's the Undertale soundtrack made entirely of orchestra covers, and there were so many for Asgore that were slow or had no drive that I listened to trying to find the best one. I got fed up pretty quickly and I think I actually said, "Cloudjumper, please don't let me down" before listening to yours. You did not let me down. Thank you for filling my playlist with determination!
THIS GAVE ME SHIVERS!! This game came out a while back and to this day the soundtracks. Every single one is the best I've ever heard in video games. From "Heartache" to "Bonetrousle" . From the temmie village theme to the Snowdin theme. "Undyne the undying" to "metal crusher". They're all amazing soundtracks and the orchestral arrangements are just absolutely breathtaking.
i was always upset at how short and lacking in instrumentals the original track was, because the tune itself is a banger. this is by far the best remix ive seen for this track and i always remember this now instead of the original
this is absolutely amazing, and the bit of the undertale theme at the announcement part gives me chills (it's my favorite song of the entire soundtrack), i can't wait for the album
I especially like the horns on this piece, since it adds to Asgore's kingly and powerful demeanor, but it's the drums that really give that feeling of epicness.

Cloudjumper i am happy to report in my personal listing of top bergentrünkung versions you came in first while malcom robins version came in second and smooth mcgroves acapella version came in third. You did perfectly the drops came in beautifly the voice acting was performed well. It felt regal and sophisticated and powerful and moving in volume and tone. I honestly didnt want the song to end. If i had a trophy you would have it. Sadly this was just an evaluation of the versions but know that you did wonderfully and its creativity and design are on the level of toby fox himself
What an outstanding job you did. omg my ears are receiving so much emotion as much as the other covers. It felt like the player is ACTUALLY in this heartbreaking situation with Asgore. All of the covers felt so real. As if the listener is literally in the environment of the song! And an ALBUM?!?! Oh my goodness yes!!!! That would be awesome. Can't wait! I feel like no other fan arrangement of his fight theme truly captures the emotions he would have felt.
This was breathtaking. It suited Asgore. It was majestic, grand, powerful and I could hear lots of emotion in it.
When I heard the piccolo part, I was like "OH MY GOD I NEED TO BRING THIS SO WE CAN PLAY THIS IN THE BAND WIKAJSHFJJQJKWJWNSKSJS"
I've been making a playlist that's the Undertale soundtrack made entirely of orchestra covers, and there were so many for Asgore that were slow or had no drive that I listened to trying to find the best one. I got fed up pretty quickly and I think I actually said, "Cloudjumper, please don't let me down" before listening to yours.

THIS GAVE ME SHIVERS!! This game came out a while back and to this day the soundtracks. Every single one is the best I've ever heard in video games. From "Heartache" to "Bonetrousle" . From the temmie village theme to the Snowdin theme. "Undyne the undying" to "metal crusher". They're all amazing soundtracks and the orchestral arrangements are just absolutely breathtaking.

i was always upset at how short and lacking in instrumentals the original track was, because the tune itself is a banger. this is by far the best remix ive seen for this track and i always remember this now instead of the original

I especially like the horns on this piece, since it adds to Asgore's kingly and powerful demeanor, but it's the drums that really give that feeling of epicness.

Cloudjumper i am happy to report in my personal listing of top bergentrünkung versions you came in first while malcom robins version came in second and smooth mcgroves acapella version came in third. You did perfectly the drops came in beautifly the voice acting was performed well. It felt regal and sophisticated and powerful and moving in volume and tone. I honestly didnt want the song to end. If i had a trophy you would have it. Sadly this was just an evaluation of the versions but know that you did wonderfully and its creativity and design are on the level of toby fox himself

What an outstanding job you did. omg my ears are receiving so much emotion as much as the other covers. It felt like the player is ACTUALLY in this heartbreaking situation with Asgore. All of the covers felt so real. As if the listener is literally in the environment of the song!
