That's the way!! Much better
Really enjoy these simple tools you make for awkward jobs. Very obvious once you see them in action, but until you do, they seem very mysterious! Thanks.
Who’s a clever boy then …simple but effective 👍
thanks dave
Spot on them pins are a nightmare, thats what I like about this channel you read the comments and take onboard other peoples great ideas
cool tool
After a few commented on a tool for this, I checked it out, and it gave me the idea for this.
Lovely
Dave, use a solid bar on this and grind the bolt conical on the insertion end, you can then use it to insert the pin and you won't flat the end of the pin, which usually causes the buggers to be so difficult to remove in the first place
I’m being thick, I can’t visualize what you mean, won’t the cone open up the pin and make it more difficult to fit? Like I said, I’m probably missing something obvious here.
@@DavesGarageuk Ok, you know the nut that you fasten on, when you push the rod through the pin? If you were to grind the top of the nut itself conical, and tighten it up so that the new pin is in between the coned nut and the bar so it has the cone at the top, it'll make it look like a pen/ pencil. Push the pointy end in and it'll line up the hinge plates and you can hit the bar to tap it through
@@stephenschofield2836 ah, I see, yes, that makes sense, thank you 😊
Having used one of these tools when I was an apprentice, they do not work that well. I think the key is heat, penetrating oil and patience. Good luck.
Great tip Dave I assume this will also do the mk2 hinge pins
I guess so
did you use heat to remove the pin initially as they can be a pain.
Heat, Big hammers, Release fluid, Sweat, Blood the lot :)
