My neighbors in this business mentioned that it is curious that these outbreaks seem to happen when the centralized companies are overstocked with whatever commodity (chicken, turkey, eggs) they sell.

I raised 700 birds (broilers, egg layers, turkeys and geese) last year with my first year farming. I’ve got 400 egg layers on pasture. The property next to me has two buildings that once held 100,000 egg layers each. I laugh every day with my 400 egg layers on 20 acres versus their 200K in two buildings. I hope to grow to 600 egg layers but will max out there.

It's effecting our food supply because the government is over reacting, just like they did with Covid. My chickens are free ranged (can't do tractors, too much hill), I lost a rooster last year, and I have only lost 1 hen this year.

Interesting this happenswhen to overcrowded chickens are the subject but the target is always backyard and non industrial flocks to outlaw decentralized production.

Factory farming isnt healthy! Destroying our poultry is not good... I keep my flock protected! But many households here have their own flocks so selling eggs isnt beneficial here

The factory poultry farming gig is a gamble. The corporations negotiate an end price for the products BEFORE the farmer even gets the birds. Any change to the farms expenses during that contract period fall back to the contracted farmer. The farm takes the loss and is not compensated when they sell. The corporations like Tyson cheat the farm who grows for them. When the farm does the book work and notices there will be a big loss because of cost of production changes maybe they can make it up with an insurance claim for “disease” losses.
I wouldn’t be surprised if insurance payouts might be some motivation in these “outbreaks”

And I have to run much smaller flocks because my pasture can’t handle so many birds 🤔 So fun to experiment. Thanks a million for all you do🙌🏽

the goverment here in the Netherlands is heavily campaigning against backyard chicken flocks right now, claiming backyard chicken eggs are full of PFAS and suggesting people "alternate between store bought and homegrown eggs" I'm afraid with the next Avian Influenza outbreak here, regulations are going to be a lot tighter, all in efforts to make people more dependant on factory farms. Home butchery of rabbits was also forbidden recently, I'm afraid chickens are next

Solution to avian flu: keep your bird feeders in the front yard and chickens in the back if you are actually worried. Give your chickens a vitamin c supplement that is not chemically derived (hint: they cause cancer.)
