It sounds so different without the sub bass. I always wonder what was used for the bass in the album version. It almost sounds like an acoustic bass pitched down an octave and heavily compressed and limited.
@@sodiumlights Fair enough. It's not that the posthumous mix sucks. I just prefer the vocal mix on this rough. The one on Basement has the vocals too buried in the mix. I am not sure if the final mix was too squashed at the mixing or mastering stage, but the final mix isn't as dynamic. This rough was likely a reference mix to check for how the vocals sat. Elliott might have done something completely different. Unfortunately we'll never know.
This is so superior to the Basement mix it makes me disappointed in what could have been. It has White Album overtones of unrefined creativity with grunge instrumentals. The Basement mix sounds thin and dissatisfying by comparison.

For a rough mix, it's really awesome. Imagine what would have been if he had been able to finalize a mix. Sounds better than what was released.
