In retrospect 960 actually has an advantage over 970. Presence of official legacy XP drivers makes 960 a prime candidate for legacy builds, on part with 950, 780Ti, 750Ti and such.
Ah, man, that's a throwback! Mom had one of those, I got a 980 Ti not long after in my first full build. (I was upgrading older off-the-shelf PCs before that!) Stuff started moving FAST after the 10 Series

Watching this on my 970-powered PC gives me chill. I have completed cyberpunk 2077 3 times on it and it's still running pretty good for 1080p-ish res with fsr
I got one of these used from my friend and I'm currently using it with an i7-6700k in a low-budget PC, I don't play any modern AAA stuff like Cyberpunk but it has no problem running basically all the games I own at max graphics settings (Half-Life 2 works really well, for example)
I'm still using a GTX980 and it's going strong. I've got a 4080 sitting in the corner waiting for me to get around to setting up a VR area but don't plan on upgrading my main machine for another couple of years.
I was using my GTX 1080 up until recently, and it still kicks ass for 1080p gaming. Just no DLSS/RTX. Only issue is that some of the DX12 games out there cause the drivers to crash with a 'device not found' error. Seems to be mainly ports of Sony titles and then Dragon's Dogma 2.
My 970 was my first introduction to vr games after my 780 basically burned out from lack of cleaning (listen, I was young back then, my dumbass didn’t realize you had to clean the damn thing for dust). Shoutout to the pc repair guy for communicating with EVGA and getting me a 970 for free, I won’t forget you!
I use a Gtx 960 and it runs 1080p just fine! I can play most games at at least 60fps but the only issue with my pc is that the cpu just ain’t keeping up (i7 6700)
Had a Gigabyte Windforce 970 loved that card paired with my 2600k once upon a time. I have fond memories of this card myself even with that slow portion of vram it was a great experience in most games.
I have my brothers using a gtx 970+i7 4770 and gtx 960 4gb+i7 2600 in dell prebuilts for years and they are running all the games they need. We play rust and many others
It is in my first (and only) custom built Gaming PC. I've been wanting to upgrade, but with how powerful the new AMD APU Strix Halo is rumored to be, I plan on waiting to make a new rig with it and not have a graphics card at all (I don't play new games much, so it'llbe perfect for me).
Ah the 970, the Legend for 1080p, i used It for a long time and now is in retirement. BUT if I want it, it's still able to run like the old days, truly a legend (overclocked too)
Got this gpu for free at some e waste recycling. Performance is really good even for 2024 paired with a ryzen 7 3700x, also from e waste too. Does what I need it to do like play mc shaders, roblox, the sims 3, gmod, and davinci resolve video editing. I don’t really do much so I think this card is a really good card for its age. Nice to know it still can play the latest games despite being 10 years old. I also oced it and it did give me a decent performance bump
GeForce GTX 900 series and Quadro from same generation are the last graphics cards, that supports analog VGA video signal through DVI-I to VGA Adapter, and they could support analog displays up to 2048x1536 @85Hz, no wonder why CRT gaming enthusiasts chose these above mentioned graphics cards.
im actually using gtx 970, upgraded from gtx 550 or sum like that, runs cyberpunk just fine :D, would not expect this card and 3rd gen intel to do so good
If you bought one of those first-hand, you also were eligible for a class-action settlement check from Nvidia due to that effective 3.5GB VRAM fiasco. It helped make the card a good value in hindsight, especially since the card was still decently usable for a long time (and still may be depending on the games you play) at 1080p and with reasonable settings.
I have a 980ti in the computer i currently have, helped put the computer together as a kid with my uncle back when it came out.
