The markings on the collar band and collar should match up. That's the placement. I stitched using 5/8". Is it possible the wrong size was cut. It's easy to do if not paying attention. I've done it.
I watched this to see how hemming was done on sleeve and bottom. did not see either. I make French seams on my shirts. I also reverse the front band so I can fold it over to the front.
