I remember growing up in the 60's and we had linoleum in the bedrooms and huge solid wood furniture that must have been handed down for many many years. The rooms were small in fact there was 2 bedrooms and 1 box room. My parents had 1 bedroom that left 1 bedroom and 1 box room to squeeze 5 children into. There really wasn't room to swing a cat, please tell Audie I don't mean that literally.

Love the 1920s! My house was built in 1921 and I acquired many antiques from family members including a complete bedroom set with a wash stand.

Chairs also developed after the fireplace was introduced because the smoke problem was being dealt with. Cold air and draughts were now drawn across the floors so sitting on the floors (below the previous smoke layer) became uncomfortably chilly. The chimney, as the fire pit was moved against a wall, or corner, changed our lives, including, as you say, the ability to have upper floors for private rooms.

Thank you for the video. I’m happy to take a break from the Queens coverage to regroup myself. Your videos never disappoint and have never been more appreciated by me than at this time.

Growing up in Lancashire, UK I used to be invited to spend weekends in a Victorian seaside terraced cottage. Linoleum on the floors, feather beds with the chill taken off by the addition of a stone hot water bottle. I loved the heavy, fringed curtains with the original, Victorian brass curtain rings. There was an outdoor bath house

Dear Sue , My first home in rural Maine still had " a borning room" . It was located off of the kitchen and a new mother could recover from birthing a child yet be near the kitchen . For the heat and to run the home. If a neighbor lady came to help as was done, the lady of the house could still be involved . My family had a stereopticon with many cards to view. My favorite was a black and white cat, napkin at his chin, fully laid breakfast table including a rat on a piece of toast ! The caption said the same. Great show as always 👏.

Oh my - a medieval ‘bedroom’ isn’t too far removed
from the cosy cave ‘togetherness.’ of our earliest ancestors.
Looking forward to this presentation .

My parents married in 1949 and their bedroom had a tall men's dresser, a long woman's dresser, a double bed with pineapple finials and ONE nightstand for the woman's side of the bed! My father put a chair on his side of the bed!

In our guest room we have an East Lake Sleigh rail bed set with matching mirrored dresser. We also have a nearly matching rocking chair that originally had horse hair upholstery. The bedset was in my husband's family in Georgia. The rocker came from my mother's family in Wisconsin.

Good morning Sue! Interesting history of the bedroom. I have to say with everyone in the same room all the time, no privacy, it’s amazing that the species survived. I guess I’m a prude 😁

My mom used o have an iron bed that looked a lot like the one you showed. My sister and I used to sleep in it when we were young. Seeing that pic brought back many memories. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

@@lightmarker3146 I remember that! The bed was moved to the playhouse Dad had built in the back yard. He had to call on help from neighbors to get it out there.

Dear Sue hello! Just getting to your video tonight. Thank you for putting this together for us. I remember the video you made for us on beds but this includes the rest of the bedroom furniture of this era. I wonder what the mattress were made of & like throughout the years other than the one probably stuffed with cotton. Oh and yes I remember the viewmaster as a toy.
Thank you for honoring the queen again in your slideshow. 💕

In Scotland we had and still have box beds. A recess in the kitchen into which a bed was built, stuff stored under, and curtains to give warmth and privacy. I slept with my grandmother in Edinburgh, the bed was raised very high on wooden truncated cones, you had to clamber in. My daughter uses a four poster with curtains in her modern bungalow. In Egypt the beds were in the courtyard or living room, frames with string, no mattress. We sat on them daytime and as dusk fell the old ladies chased us off their bed. They were comfy. We had small close stools, looked like a cute little table, but lift the lid and find a chantie, or pottie😁😁😁

Linoleum. WHY? 1920’s hardwood floors were better.
