Many thanks to Deeno who makes these videos with me. For many years we have worked together to try and explain my process of making my photos. Deeno and I are very happy to try and help others to know the great pleasure of being an effective photographer.
John you’re the only photographer i watch on youtube, you are such an inspiration and i love learning from you. If you ever made a podcast about photography I think that would be very cool, you have a very nice voice to listen to
ive been in a rut of depression, lack of motivation and desire etc, for the past four months, havent taken a single photo in that time, havent developed any film for even longer... im not quite at the point where i feel well enough to get back into the world and start making photos again, but this video made me feel a little better, so for that i thank you Mr.Free.

I am happy for you. I also feel blue at times, but my photography saves me every time. My photography gives me a chance to do something important. To make visual poetry,(or try too), for a hungry world seeking peace and love. We both are photographers with the hope of producing photographs which might help mankind. To show men and women in a fine way and to celebrate the greatness that can come out of a heart and brain and camera as a gift from us to the world with our love and devotion to a fantastic way of life, which is being a loving and devoted photographer.

I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years now and at first I was impressed by your high view of photography. To me street/documentary photography was just a past time, something I played at. But you have shown me that it is important work. As I’m now beginning to get that fact I think that it comes though in my images and I’m pushing myself more and more each time I go out. I don’t know if I’ve expressed what I mean very well but I would like to say thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. It really does help people.

Predictably superbly balanced between a raft of practical advice and philosophical encouragement - a mixture between, for instance, "practise in the backyard with this device" and "you are trying to soothe and educate mankind". And "here are my shots to show you I can do it". Keep it up John and Deeno - photographers (esp in the so-called "first world") need this advice and we as sure as bloody hell need the philosophy.
Dear John, not only do I feel touched by your work, but most of all Sir, you got that swing while walking the streets and talking with people. After all it's a wonderful world and you're making us feel it! Inspirational and exampelery for all of us out there, so Thank you very much!

Ruskut It's actually Ilford HP5 ISO 400 B&W film.
Today, 2020, it's not allowed to take pictures of strangers on the streets in most places I know of. This is the law in most of Europe. So that's a thing I guess.......
03:18 Did you really ment 1/2s? You have to had extremely stady arms to hand held a SLR this long...
The train moving out, was quite a distance from my camera, which meant I would have to slow my shutter speed way down. I am sorry you did not enjoy my video enough to say so.
I really liked your video, never said otherwise! I just wondered how you could held a shot steady at 1/2s with an SLR while I strugle with 1/8 with a RF...
