    Ford Edge ST vs. Explorer ST?

    • @dorybleu1
      @dorybleu1 Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Mike, great presentation as usual. I am glad Ford has made those improvements. Most significantly for me is the improvement of the integration of the touch screen. I absolutely hated the Explorer's application. I know the Tesla was the benchmark but for me, it was just too much in your face. This latest iteration is more refined and much more palatable :-). I used to travel for business often and Ford products including this one was always my rental of choice. I now just hope i will be able to find an ST on the rental circuit soon. Thanks again for a great presentation. You are always equally as entertaining as the substantive review. All the best, DD

    The Edge st has a fantastic chunky muscular look. The short depressed hood is awesome and sets itself apart. from the driver perspective the hood appears to bump up above the wheels and feels very sporty. Lots of subtle design style like this that makes it simply look rad.

    1. The passenger seat has the same adjustability as the drivers.
    2. Both front and rear doors can be unlocked and locked with the hand sensing (keyless).
    3. Both front driver and passenger door windows glass are laminated as well front windshield.
    Thank you for reviewing in depth the 21’ ST!

    Have a 2017 Sport, it doesn’t disappoint, there’s tuning available that would probably take the 6 speed close to its design limits and I’m not going to risk it, but I was hoping Ford would have considered the 3.0 twin turbo for 2021, 400hp would be a nice starting point for this SUV

    The proper unit of torque is lb-ft. (or N-m in SI). Ft-lb is the unit for work or energy. Equal to the work done by 1 lb of force acting through a linear distance of 1 foot. People like to interchange them, however they are really two different things.

      I have the '14 Sport as well and absolutely love it. I've been waiting for the larger screen and newer features myself and am looking to probably buy the '22 or '23 (supposedly the last model year for the Edge). My biggest concerns are that the new ones don't come with the 22" rims like the '14 (which is really disappointing - those all-black wheels are going to really suck to have refinished if you hit a curb) and I absolutely hate the shift knob versus the stick type shifter (no place to rest my hand otherwise).

    I think an explanation for the car not having touch entry on the back handles is either because of the part shortage (same with the engine cover & sound deadening) or because you don’t have the fully loaded version with the upgraded brakes. My moms 2019 ST and my 2018 sport both are fully loaded and have them on all 4 doors.

    I wish Ford would grow a brain. This is suppose to be their flagship 2 row SUV. Why the hell don't they make it rear wheel bias and use the engine that's in the explorer? You would have to spend a lot of money to compete with it if it had that 400 hp engine. And stiffen the damn thing up, if people don't like it they can buy the luxury model. And this is coming from someone who owns one.

    Ford should have given the ‘19+ edges the 2.3 Ecoboost instead of the 2.0. The Lincoln MkC was shipped with that engine as an option and with the weight of the edge, 240hp just doesn’t cut it. More people probably would have been impressed with the edge if the base engine was zippy but that may have taken some ST sales. Anyway, missed opportunity.

    I would definitely rather pay for the Edge ST over the SQ5. With the ST at 335/380 and the SQ5 at 349/369 the power numbers are close. Personally, I didn't realize how close.

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 lol while he's trying to type the note as he stopped he's like wait whats going on and im saying through the phone like. You have to put it in park before it'll allow you to type. Then he says oh it makes since; Not... who thought about that. I'm like me dying laughing omg so funny

    Yup, its an 8 speed that skips a gear, the 2-3 shift is pointless and affects performance, I have a 2019 and always have this issue when manually shifting.
    The other issue I had was a loud clunk when going from parked to drive or to reverse, this was fixed with an update from Ford.
    Otherwise, its a pretty decent SUV.

      Omg so true I frkn hate the 2-3 shift, it actually jerks and push you to front a bit, the 10 speed from the explorer has smooth shifting and better fuel economy if you go for the 2.3L

      @TheRealSmithFamily Před 2 lety +1

      Yep, I still get the clunk when shifting from drive to reverse from time to time. I received the first trans update but was told there wasn’t another one. When I received the vehicle in late 2018, the trans tune was HORRIBLE!

      @@TheRealSmithFamily Supposedly there have been two, they reset mine initially which did diddly squat, when they finally decided to flash it solved most of the clunking ( have had it on 2 ocasions since a year or so ). Can't recall which version I received though.

      @TheRealSmithFamily Před 2 lety +1

      @@webhito yeah, I didn’t get mine reset. It was a full on reflash and the difference was immediately noticed. Just listening to this video tells me the shifting is greatly improved over the 8 speed. 🤞🏼, I think I’m going to order a 2022.

      @@TheRealSmithFamily When you do and if you do I would like to hear back from you, I am upgrading to an explorer as I need the extra space but the edge was a really nice ride except of course the transmission. Not sure why they aren't just adding a 10 speed like everything else is.

    A correction for US viewers. The $38,440 USD MSRP shown in the video (5:13) is for the "ST-Line" not the full fledged ST. That model begins at $43,600 and quickly rises to over $50,000 USD with options. I'm not sure about the MSRP for the ST in Canada but if it's less than $50,000 (Canadian) with the options shown in the video, it's quite a bargain.

      In Canada is 7k more, but you can actually get it cheaper on Christmas or if you buy it as Demo, the car is gorgeous but ridiculously expensive, that's a Telluride SX price there with better technology and luxurious interior.

    Power!? The out gone 2017 Ford Fusion Sport sedan had the same engine, the most powerful in its class. But, it wasn’t sporty at all. Had a top speed of 124 mph.

    I’m pretty sure it can be both: Ft-lb or lb-ft, the units are simply multiplied together so the commutative law applies.

    I don't like the Focus face on the model refresh. The previous look was wat better. White is also not thw best color for this SUV. A darker color or even electric spice shows how beautifully chiselled this car is. Plus I would only get the Sport version. 😎👍👍

    This looks good. Though your unusual overhead lighting creates strong reflections that can seem like car structural elements on a white and black car.
