With regards to your feelings on the pickups: I don’t necessarily think that they are lackluster, more so that the tone you dialed in for them didn’t fit them as well as it could have. For example: I normally play a Fender FSR telecaster loaded with an emg 81/85 with my bands setup, but as she’s been in the shop for some mods/repair I’ve started using my Ibanez artist series with fluff signature beardcombers. When I first plugged it into my signal chain I thought it sounded a lot thinner and less focused than the emg’s. Upon realizing that these pickups were lower output I simply drove my boost into my amp harder and dialed the eq ever so slightly differently. Then boom, equally awesome but different flavored guitar tone. When you get used to dialing things in a certain way different gear will react differently. That’s just my two cents!

I think they look so much better too. I’ve had way more guitars with Floyds but that’s just because nobody really puts Kahler on their guitars. I like the way they feel better too. It’s all preference I guess but if more people were actually able to try out a Kahler, I think they’d be way more popular

Thanks for reviewing this guitar. Running the EMGs on 18 volts will make them sound better. This is how Glenn has them. Another thing to try is adjusting the pickup height. Drop it down as far as it will go without dropping off it's screws, then raise it abit, play a bit,if needed raise a bit more etc till the sound you need is found.Plus if you can turn up the volume on the amp. As always, fantastic review man. As far as the pickups go, I think when considering Tipton's rig, it might be more suited for that. I agree that there's less oomph in the low-end, but I think the midrange definitely is more interesting than the regular 81. I think through a more vintage rig, with more thumpy low-end, they would suit it well.

Dont believe the lies. Kahler is godsend ! Floydrose and floydlike trems are harder to set and a pain in the ass to string when time comes. There is a reason Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King, Glenn Tipton, Jerry Cantrel, KK Downing, Robert Fripp, Guy Marchais, David Schankle, Brian Hoffman, and Neal Moser, Searls guitars swear by Kahler. Kahler is awesome when you palm mute, it's also smooth and fine when you dive bomb or pull up. It doesn't require a big hole inside your guitar like Floydrose trems, thus it's has a bigger sustain. I rocked an LTD JH600 and I can't praise enough Kahlers. Also you can turn easily a Kahler trem into a fixed bridge !

Hey Arnold, in terms of final quality control do you have certain brands/manufacturers that would put above the rest?

I still stick with the idea of a SG with a Floyd...I have a Dean Gran Sport Floyd, a Dean Splittail Floyd and have a custom chinese SG with Floyd Rose. I have waited for an LTD Viper 1000 with a Floyd since forever, but they only have the VP-L-FR-CTM-BKCH in Japan for around $4000-$5000 US dollars.Love the review and the sincerity about the struggle of the Kahler... Of course it's a signature, but at least ESP/LTD should do a limited run of aViper Floyd.

Whoa, thanks for that section on the bridge system. I couldn't read the name on it in my Korean V from the 80's and totally WHANG on it, like you said. It has Grover tuners. I also love my Floyd in the USA Jackson RR1

Cool, man! What a shame about the pickup. Maybe they'll change that out in the next run or something. Love Priest, so this is an important review for me. Glenn deserves a signature model. I feel like it should be perfect so fix that shit please LTD! Good to see you, broski! Keep rocking. Great job on the riffage.

I saw the Kahler in the thumbnail and was curious on what your thoughts would be on it. Most people don't like playing both Floyds and Kahlers. They pick one and stick with it.

Man, Kahlers are killer ! I had an LTD JH600 (Hanneman sig) with a hybrid Kahler, that trem is far better than Floydrose.
