- The first time riding my motorcycle on the road AND IT STARTED RAINING! Of course this would happen lol. In this video I will be talking about the next steps I took after passing the MSF Course. I took a trip to the DMV to officially get my motorcycle license and BOY WAS THAT A STRUGGLE. You'll be shocked to find out what happened (hint: I get frustrated)
How did I do on the road? I felt pretty comfortable riding. I even shifted to the 3rd and 4th gear while riding as well as changing lanes! I'm also wearing my new gear :)
How are y'all liking the 360 camera angle? Is it too difficult to watch? Let me know and I can try my GoPro next time.

Sorry the footage is shaky! I will fix this in my next riding video ❤️
doing good! Just ride as much as you can every day?
Is there a specific reason it was shaky? Reason i ask is because I ride and want to vlog and I was looking at insta 360 but if it shakes like that I’m not buying one but keep riding and filming! Your doing great!
@@LocknessRides I think the attachment I have is a bit loose and that was causing the shaking? I'm trying to figure that out.
Hi Rea, I am a 69 year old novice rider (Road King) and I'm also a commercial truck driver. I want to pass along some unsolicited advice to you that you may not be aware of. That advice is to Stay Away From Big Trucks! These trucks are extremely dangerous to motorcycles, even big heavy bikes like mine. Do yourself a favor and give big trucks and ESPRCIALLY Tractor-Trailers plenty of space between you and them and try not to EVER ride beside them, too! I'm just trying to look out for you, Cutie! I want you to be SAFE and enjoy your motorcycle experience every time you ride! We need more Lady Riders like you out there! Good Luck!👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much!! 😊👍
Good point Chuk-Just need to be proactive about traffic-not paranoid but aware.
Yep.
I’ve been riding since March 2021. I always have two fingers covering the clutch and brake, takes a little getting used too, worth it though, it has saved me twice, instead of grabbing at the brake lever risking washing out the front wheel your fingers are already there and you can apply gradual pressure.
In rain, always be smooth with your input to the bike, smooth and slower than in dry conditions.
To this day, every time I go out on the bike I first go to my local car park, practice figure 8’s, slow controlled balance exercises with the foot dragging the back brake and emergency braking.
5 minutes, 10 at most.
These are things that help me. Hope it can for anyone who bothered to read. Cheers!
I'm living my first ride vicariously while watching this, great job ! A tip from a former foot dragger though: when at low speeds or slowly coming to a stop, practice using your rear brake, you'll have more stability at slow speeds and you'll learn to not even need to put your feet down. Good luck and we're looking forward to seeing more :D
thanks so much!
Not sure if this was mentioned ,don’t ride in the middle of the lane ,that’s where oil from vehicles get deposited and also being on one side or the other if you need get out of the way quickly you can . Oh and don’t go in neutral at every light ,again if you need to move quickly you can just dump the clutch and get out the way. Enjoy the ride you’re gunna love it
Great job! Braver than me as I stayed in local neighborhood for over a month before venturing out into traffic.
Ride your own ride, drive as if you are invisible to others, first few minutes of rain is the slipperiest time.
Ride your own ride! Like don’t let anyone take you beyond your skill set unless it’s in a parking lot practicing and learning. Stay safe sis 🙌💪
We all go at our own pace, thankfully I went out at a time with very little traffic. Thanks so much!
Congratulations! That first ride on a real road is one of the most nerve wracking things! You handled it like a complete BOSS!
thank you!!
Its been enjoyable to watch you learn, it reminds me of when I started to ride over a decade ago. As you become more confident it would be great to hear you commentating as your riding, kind of like a moto vlog? Take your time and keep enjoying yourself 🙂
Oh that would be so great to add commentary!
Randomly saw this thumbnail and instantly recognized the location! Congrats on the endorsement! Ride safe, especially in town. 😅🤙
haha it's very recognizable! Thanks so much! 😊
Hi Rea. There's a saying motorcyclist often use in regards to the feeling of being on the motorcycle which is "if i have to explain it you wouldnt understand it" In my over 55 years of riding and hundreds of thousands of miles I have watched as many, many new riders first discover what that sayin means and the joy on their faces. Welcome to that club. I promise you if you stick to it with the more you ride and the more experiance you gain that feeling will never go away. Ride on sister.
Good Job, One thing I learned living in south florida and learning to ride in horrendous traffic in the rain is get a bottle of anti fog spary and rainex for plastic. Use the anti fog and rainex and you wont have any problems seeing in the rain.
Great job. I used to have long hair and my wife still has her long hair, so unless you love split ends, wear your helmet with a pony tail or in a braid, or two. My wife likes to use like 3 or 4 scrungies making a long pony tail and places her ponytail under her jacket's collar. Carry extra scrungies as you will lose them. Happy riding!
I watched your entire series this morning. I'm from SW Indiana and your ride on the road made me very glad I began in such an uncrowded, largely rural area. I got my MC license at 58 though. I'm now 72 and have ridden thousands and thousands of miles. Stil love it ardently though do find myself wondering how many more years are ahead for me. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Nothing makes the point "it's not about the destination, it's about the journey." more than a motorcycle.
you're literally my hero for having the courage to ride. Makes me have to suck it up and hop on more.
aww thank you so much! I hope you are able to ride more 😊
I felt the pain of you having to go and wait for an appointment
I passed my test about 3 or so weeks ago and here in Texas the earliest appointment was June!!
I got lucky and was able to swipe a same day appointment on Tuesday, by waiting outside the dmv at 5am till 7:30am 😅
Planning on getting the Rebel 500, came across your vlog and have enjoyed the content.
Oh no!!! I’m glad you were able to go in sooner! The DMV is such a pain lol
& nice The rebel is great 😊
safe riding!
Rain is just liquid sunshine keep going wherever. Watch the roads when it rains they can get slick due to oils coming out of the pavement.
Good series and an inspiration for many people; CONGRATULATIONS for your license.
Saludos desde España
Thank you so much!! :)
I just got a bike recently and share the enthusiasm and the importance of learning. Ride safe-great to see you getting into it!
i am loving your videos of how your starting, i wish i had this when i started, i went thru similar and was scared my first time alone on street and highway. so far been a year and getting better
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like the series 😊 safe riding!
Rain is just liquid sunshine...you know, it's funny, people don't mind water when they're swimming, bathing, showering, but let it start falling from the sky & all of a sudden, it's a travesty...rain is a thing & motorcycles don't have roofs or walls, so you just gotta ride through it...reduce your speed & ride as you normally would...everything on that bike will be fine if it gets wet & you will too...that's just part of riding...enjoy! 🖖🏿😎👍🏿
You did great! Riding in the city the traffic can be scary. Keep it up, you'll be a pro in no time.
I’ve been riding about a year and also have a rebel! So happy to have found your channel!
Oh awesome! Rebels are great 😊
Always nice to see someone's first solo ride., i still remember mine 24 years and 3 days ago . Picking up my new SV650 from the dealer.. We had light snow here in Copenhagen, Denmark ... lol Have a nice weekend! :-)
DMV's were made by actual monsters, and I'm loving watching you learn your bike. I almost miss the feeling of learning mine while watching the giddiness of you lmao
Hahahaha 😂
I’m really glad you like my videos 😊 it’s such an exciting time
Congratulations!!!! Love how you shot this video
I really enjoyed the first 4 videos, this one I really tried but that Music????? and the fancy super wide angle video, I couldn't handle. Stay safe and continue enjoying riding, it only gets better.
Moin(like morning but also hallo) from germany. I'm a little bit afraid to comment , cause my english is not so good . I enjoyed a few videos from you and i was wonderfully entertained ...enjoy your motorcycle and ride safe 🙂
Thank you so much for your comment!!😊
We were all new riders, once. You're doing a fantastic job. Keep it up. Ride Safe. :)
Thank you!
Hey Rea lookin pretty confident out there, shifting 3rd to 4th and changing lanes. Good job....
Ride Safe Be Safe out there Rea 👍
Congrats Rea! Enjoy the Freedom.
It's the same thing here. If you don't have an appointment, you wait for hours 😒
Good job on switching gears and changing lanes!
I've been riding for a little over a year now on the roads (graduated from dirt bikes, you could say lol), but every time I'm at a red light or fully stop, I can't help but sit there and think, "Please don't stall, please don't stall, please don't let me tip over right now." 😂 I will say, just like with any rider, I did drop my bike and fall once before in front of people on the road because of a stall. A little embarrassing, but I still laughed about it, even now.
Congratulations Rea, you da best 🥰😊
thank you😊
You did great. One thing I learned from online videos of bikers getting into accidents is we typically get rear ended at redlights for various reasons. It took me a few days to get in a habit but I'd sudgest positioning in a way where you could escape if necessary and keep your eyes on your mirror behind you to make sure they are stopping behind you. I have Ling waits at lights around me so I'll wait till some one stops behind me then maybe I'll go into neutral after that, depends on the vibes lol.
Thank you for the advice! I will keep that in mind for my next ride. I appreciate it!
Great to see you on the road. (Seems you have the bug)
I've been riding for 45 years, and will never stop.
Watching the 1st part of you going to the dmv brought back memories of passing my test (july 2022)
But as i am in the UK i was legal to drive from the moment the test ended, in the UK we then post our licence to the DVLA for amendments (but can drive/ride on the road with no waiting for it to come back)
I rode home from the test centre on my own pooping my pants!
I hate going to the DMV. Well at least you got your license. Congrats. Enjoy riding out there. 👍
Thank so much!!
Great job! Keep your head on a swivel and you're going to be fine.
I’m looking at getting a rebel 500 but when I say on the bike I felt like it was a little heavy but I think I was just nervous , can’t wait to see more of your videos 👍🏼👍🏼
Oh awesome!!! The rebel is actually pretty light for a cruiser but I feel you. The weight is intimidating for sure
Good luck to you on your riding journey😊
I know i am a little late but my bike is 350lbs and when I first sat on it I thought it was very heavy. Once I started riding it though it now feels light as a feather. Not sure how heavy a rebel is but I hope that helps.
Great job Rea !! 🥳🏍️
thank you!!
Wow 🥳🥳🤗 You did GREAT!
thank you!!😊
You've had a baptism of fire (or rain) early in your riding time. You coped well and you'll be better prepared for future wet weather riding. The camera angle takes a bit of getting used to. Thanks for sharing your video.
Hey there Rea, I just wanted to say for the camera being shaky, check and make sure the image stability is on. I’ve seen people doing vigorous things on motorcycles with clear videos, just check the settings and you should be fine. Good luck😊
Thank you!! Yes I will check the settings. It came out way more shaky than I thought lol
it's probably not your fault... here in Virginia you can book next week's appointment. If you walk in you only need to wait for 30 min.
Hey did you mention you are in Hawaii? Must have missed that. Can't wait to see you go around the island.
Congratulations. It feels so odd that you can get a licence without ever shifting above third gear. Here in Ireland the training is three days and you have to spend a minimum number of hours on the road with the instructor before you get sighed off.
Welcome to Germany you need at least 2-6 months the normal way, of course you can rush it but that will cost you over 3000$+. You will spend 18 hours+ just with basic riding, after that you have to perform a testride inc. a little parkour. Oh, and you also have to learn over 1300 questions about the road in Germany
@@sophiewagner5770 that's a bit excessive.
Here in Greece, you also only go up to third gear. At least on class A (unlimited) where you learn on a 600. The test on the road is in a quiet neighborhood like area and the closed course have one moment where you have to drive fast on a 40m long, 40cm thin line and go through 1-2-3 gear before the end of it within 5.5 seconds. Then two other stretches a bit wider, with the same length and time limit, but one where they check stopping distance at the end and one were you have to swerve out and in around a cone - although these do not have a gear requirement (on a 600 you can easily do 40 meters within 5.5 seconds just going to 2nd gear).
As for the 1300 questions that Sophie mentioned, seems reasonable. Here in Greece there are a pool of 820 questions you have to learn, but that is for car though. For motorcycles it is less, and the test only has 10 questions as opposed to 30. Not sure what the number of questions possible are for the bike though, or if you have to do the test for car in addition if you are only taking the license for a bike and do not have the car license already or is not also taking the license for a car at the same time. But the amount of questions surely covers all the _basics_ of road rules and safety.
Try using blind spot mirrors so you won’t have to turn your head.
Be safe. Ride often when traffic is low. Or out of town🎅🏼🏍🇺🇸
Any tips on rain riding for Rea? (and anyone else out there) I heard about a plastic safe rain guard spray that helps raindrops slide off lenses, but I forgot the name let me just check... Ok found it "Rain X Plastic Water Repellent". Have fun and stay safe!
thank! I knew there would be some sort of spray or something that I could use. Much appreciated!
Some day we don' t let the line move at all... we call them weekdays!
you did awesome
Greetings from Denver Colorado
Good job.👍
Awesome
Man, I hate going to the DMV.!
Hello, I have watched all of your vlogs. I'm excited to take my MSF training in about two weeks. How's the Honda rebel 300 after a year of riding it? I'm still debating if I should get the Honda rebel 300 or 500?
When you want to come and meet Denver Colorado, let me know, I'll gladly invite you 😊
The clutch is fixed as I've seen it was broken before :)
Yes it is!!
Epic
Omgggggg yessssss
Saludos desde Denver colorado 😚
Best to ride in dirt on smaller bike for 1 yr to get good at basic riding and controlling clutch shifter braking etc before ever getting on road. Also dirt will teach you how to ride in bad traction conditions with out trucks and cars trying to kill you. Riding and avoiding things should be instinct before ever getting on road. If street bike is first bike good luck you chances of staying alive are 20% compared to 80% if you spent 1 yr riding off road first. Lost 2 good friends in high school cause their first bikes were street bikes, both died due to not being prepared to react to bad issues with instinct. Nothing replaces experience, so get it safely in dirt. if it is not an option all I can say is avoid hevay traffic and good luck as luck is all you have, until you build experience you are playing russian roulette.
What town are you in? Looks really nice. California?
beautiful
Congratulations! I reckon you should add some bright colors to your helmet/clothing/bike... You'll be hard to see wearing all black and especially so if you are ever out in the evenings....
Cool 😎
i love the music - whom is the artist?
I thing i love You🤩
OMG ....I thing i love You 🤩
rain really, it's just a few drops😂
😂😂
For a foreigner, can someone explain why the licence registry takes so long?
Also 1st ride on the road and already a 360° cam and full set of gear? Whats going on here?
It’s actually a very quick process. I just never made an appointment at the DMV so I was a walk-in. And walk-in notoriously take forever 😅
& yes I wanted to make sure I had full protective gear before heading out on the road. Just for safety and made me feel more comfortable :)
-I had the 360 for a while and decided to start using it as my motorcycle camera
I think I fell in love 😌
wow thats a hideous system. in the UK when you pass your test you leave your given a certificate to shop you have passed and legal to ride and you examiner takes your card licence and does all the necessary paperwork or online stuff and you get you updated licence back within 6 weeks. mine came back in 4 days
Why you not use 2 Fingers for the righthand Break and 2 Fingers for throttle this is danger and you have not full control
what about some wheelies
Gyroflow is your best friend
I have watched your videos and I love them and you are beautiful..where are you from
So passing the MSF doesn’t require any riding on the highway with an instructor 😮? Is that because you have a driving licence?
Hi! Thats correct. The MSF Course does not go over riding on highways with instructors. It all takes place in an empty parking lot.
MSF offers more advanced classes, but there main class is about teaching someone that has only ridden bycycles to ride a motorcycle an pass the DMVs obstacle course. Whatever your state requires you to do to pass their driving test, thats what they usually train you on an test you on. In is usually just starts an stops, quick swerves and sharp turns including a hard right from a stop and a figure 8 inside a 20 by 60 foot box. These are generally the hardest skills to master on a bike. Riding on the road is treated as easy compared to slow speed maneuvers because bikes are more stable at speed. Many people that have been riding on the street for years have as hard or harder time with the MSF course than people who have never been on a motorcycle before. They do go over a lot of road safety stuff in the classroom part though.
Where You from
Great job on O'ahu's crappy roads. I highly recommend riding H3 when you get a chance. Just pick a nice sunny day on BOTH sides. Here's my ride with just a generic GoPro: czcams.com/video/w3FkolTmSyo/video.html
Only criticism I can offer is it looks like you are riding and stopping in the middle of the lane. Common for new riders but usually not a great place to be.
Thank you for the tip! I really have to remember to stop doing that😅
Virginity lost riding a bike... Now you are talking!
Gorgeous woman. Love her eyes. Her voice is so dreamy.
Creepy comment,...but yea. She reminds me of a young Joan Baez. Don't fall in love, ma dude ;)
Black is a bad color on a bike, get high viz
That looks like a big city. Which city is that?
