The one with Lin Gaoyuan and Timo Boll wasn't a save either, since Lin already won the point as soon as the ball hit the net clamp after it had already hit the table. Adam Bobrow got it wrong there, but the umpire didn't and awarded Lin the point.

@@top5tabletennis it does, but you can only hit the net directly after it leaves the racket. Once the ball hits the table on the opponent’s sides the opponent must hit the ball. But instead the ball hits the net again after the table and the ball cannot hit anything besides the opponent’s racket after it hits the table. It cannot hit the wall, floor, shirt, or net, no other object before being hit by the opponent’s racket. This is because the definition of a point includes the ball striking any object other than the opponent’s racket after hitting the table. If the ball hits the net clamp directly after the net before the table, then that is ok. But it hit the net clamp after it hit the table already.

So in the case of a back spin shot hitting the net then table then net again followed by the racket, is that legal? If it is then it's literally the same case here since the net clamp counts as the net.

@@janavgupta5473 if the backspin shot hits the opponent's side and then the net again, then you win because the opponent did not make the receive. The opponent should've hit the ball directly after it hit their side of the table, but instead, the backspin caused the ball to touch the net again after hitting their side of the table.

@@chimyshark I dont think so since the only rule is that it shouldn't touch the table twice. There is no mention of anything else hence I am pretty sure that it is legal to play the ball after it has hit the table and then the net as long as it doesn't bounce on the table a second time.

Shot of Boll was lost by Boll. The ball touches the net, the table, and again a part of the net before Boll touches the ball.

This video and this point have already been often commented : the referee was right when he gives the point to Timo opponent.

So I disagree because in this case there is : net, then table before clamp of the net, and at last shot of Timo. If the order was : the net, then clamp of the net, then table then Timo's shot (just after the table), the Timo's shot would be good. If the ball touches anything else than the racket after it touches the table, the point is lost.

Table tennis players are the most miserable sods in the world. Where are the smiles/nods/embraces when these remarkable things occur? 'Professionlism' isn't the answer as it's all by itself in this regard. I've played all my life and hate how serious the pros are. Andy Murray is a prankster by comparison.

i’m not sure why tt players dont usually acknowledge each other’s great shots, but an example of this happening is the fan zhendong rolling shot with simon gauzy where both players are smiling at the end
