I was very pregnant while my husband was finishing EMT school and his professor wanted to use me for training day. They had never had an actual pregnant woman for this day in the past and only ever used a fake belly. The scene I was apart of was supposed to be a car accident in which I miscarried the baby at the hospital. I suffered a massive panic attack thinking about it as I had suffered 2 miscarriages before getting pregnant with our son. My husband explained the situation to the instructors and they rewrote it to where I was badly injured but the baby was okay.

@@marvelastic112 it ended up being a lot of fun because there were actual resident doctors there practicing as well. No one was told before hand that I was actually pregnant so they were in for a big shock when they did the ultrasound and saw an actual 30 week baby moving around. There was one moment that I did cry thinking about my babies I lost but I’m doing well now. My son is a little over 2 and he is the best thing to ever happen to use

I knew she was pregnant both times because I remember her and some of the cast joking about how she was pregnant for so long. I always thought she had two kids. Didn't know she had a miscarriage from the first.
I was so sure for the second pregnancy that it was real cause she wasn't much in the show and mostly on the bed but didn't know for the first one
That commitment to the role, must’ve been really hard to act like a mother after not being one

Not just the new baby but she had to pretend to be pregnant also knowing that her real baby was gone

Monica from friends too had the same issue. I think she had about 4 miscarriages before finally having Coco in Season 10. That's why her storyline was mostly about her hardship of having a child.

@@carmeltabbyI believe Courtney got pregnant not too long after Monica and chandler decide to adopt. Iirc she was showing a bit in s10 so they had to really hide it but it’s very obvious in the finale.

That sucks about her first pregnancy she is a real trooper can’t believe she went on with the show, very happy her second one turned out so good.
it's kind of beautiful that in TBBT there's a theme on how it's harder for pregnant women to return to work and the show itself helped her to keep working while pregnant by writing them into it.

And the show reminds you of it by pretending you didn't.
Imagine losing a child and then the showrunners write it into the show and you're reminded during filming and in every interview from then on of your real loss. Pregnancy is way more common than miscarriage, especially in shows like that.
I couldn't imagine either way, but if I have to choose, I'd go with the fake pregnancy than my real life loss.

Reminds me of HIMYM, Robin actress irl has difficulties to get pregnant. When she does she actually pregnant during the same time Lily actress pregnant. But since Robin characters not suppsoe to be pregnant they just need to cleverly hide it. Overall, i always respect these mothers out there working while carrying a child!

They also hid Allison’s pregnancy during himym. The episode where they all jump from one roof to the other is one of the few episodes in that season to feature lily and her belly is always blocked by something
They did the same with Katey Sagal on Married With Children. Her pregnancy was written into the show but when she lost the baby, it was played off as a dream sequence. Her later pregnancies weren't written in, presumably out of respect/fear of the same happening again.

This is similar to Lisa Kudrow's pregnancy being written on _Friends_ when her character, Phoebe, was pregnant with triplets. Still, kudos to Melissa on her real role of being a earnest mother for a lifetime.

Actresses will be pregnant on shows all the time and they do a lot of tricks to hide it
"Stupid" implies that you already have verifiable information, but choose to ignore it and act as though it didn't exist.
"Ignorant" is more apt, and displays a more intelligent approach to describing why people thought what they did.

In how I met your mother both the actresses of lily and Robin were pregnant. Since their characters werent, they disappeared from the scene for a while, after trying hiding their belly with big bags, large clothes and other ways.
Then, there was the quote "whats the difference between peauntbutter and jam" which made lily disappear for a while. It was just a clever trick.
Well. I guess that explains why the makeup effects were on point.
Season 6 was Melissa Rauch break out season it really showed her acting range in the show.

So not only is she an amazing actress, but she's incredibly strong and resilient. I hope she has a lifetime of wonderful moments with her family, cuz she deserves it.
I kind a wish they had written the miscarriage into the show. Not only does that sound incredibly emotionally taxing to have lost a baby and then have to continue to play pregnant. But it would’ve been really interesting to see that explored with the characters.
I don't know, it's a comedy show and even with their more serious moments there are jokes sprinkled throughout. I don't think it would be able to be handled right, either there would be no joking and it would feel out of place. Or they would throw a few jokes in there and probably still hurt her and be super disrespectful.
They may have asked her about it and it may have been harder for her to reenact the grief. And sometimes these actors are looking at what feels right for their character too.
Something similar happened on Married with Children. Katey Sagal got pregnant and so they wrote it in, but the baby came early and was stillborn. The writers ended up making the whole thing a dream of Al’s so she wouldn’t have to deal with the storyline.
Being an actor is not as easy as it seems. Kudos to Mellissa for her commitment to Bernadette.
Courtney Cox (Monica) also had multiple miscarriages while filming Friends. She talked about how difficult it was for her during Rachel's pregnancy n birth storyline

I don't think TBBT writers put her miscarriage into the show. Melissa's pregnancy in real life (that was carried to term) coincided with Bernadette's second pregnancy on the show. TBBT had no problems writing that in, according to Life & Style Magazine. I cannot find proof, however that they wrote the miscarriage pregnancy into TBBT. Bernadette being on bed rest was a precaution for Rauch since she had the history of a miscarriage, but I have seen no mention of the first one being influenced by real life circumstances

Honestly that’s really heartbreaking. To get pregnant, have it written into the show, miscarry, and then fake it. Then get pregnant AGAIN, have it written in AGAIN, and wonder if this one will be successful and then find out it was and that you have a little girl. Melissa must’ve really emotionally suffered on set.

Writing a pregnancy into a show is a risky thing to do. I believe Married with Children ran into this problem and retconned a whole season. Though my facts may me off on the details.
That's true imagining shooting scenes with a woman's pregnancy written into it and then she looses the child before the show was gonna deliver the child in the story so u have to shoot the whole thing with the woman no longer pregnant that's sad and also exhausting
Yes. Then when Sagal lost the baby they wrote it in as it was all a dream. And if I’m not mistaken they wrote in that peg was upset and went to visit her family. To give sagal time off from the show

Believe it or not the hot dog challenge Lilly did in "How I met your mother" showed her real life pregnant belly as she jumped up beating her previous hot dog eating accomplishment. They covered the belly up for a long time with the peanut butter joke, and she wasn't seen for several weeks, ot was her delivery and recovery time off the show.
That was a god reveal, I think another show did something similar. I wanna say it was b99 and Melissa Fumero but I could be wrong

I like that shows are now more okay with writing pregnancies into shows. I learned from an old interview with Phylicia Rashad that they hid her pregnancy with big sweaters, posing her behind counters, or having her hold giant stuffed animals. I'm guessing that's how they did it for any other actresses back in the day 😅

I had a miscarriage when I was only 6 weeks pregnant 😔 I was very sad and heart broken and I’ve just known about the pregnancy a week earlier 😢I can’t even imagine how bad it must be to lose a baby later in the pregnancy 🤰 be able to feel it, and see your bump growing everyday and then is just gone 💔 😭 two months later I got pregnant again 🌈 I didn’t want to tell anybody or get too attach, luckily for us I’m now 22 weeks pregnant with a beautiful baby girl 💕 We’ve have a couple of bad days and scares but everything is getting better 👌💝
