Adam is the best living artist in the game.
Great interview. I love Adam Hughes. He's so down to earth and funny. And I know he's gonna catch some hell from his "Current Wife". Ha, ha!
lol It sounds like his leash just got shorter with that comment.
I love them all but this is the best one yet.
Adam is great
This was awesome :)
That was fantastic!
i love his artwork and his jokes, hoping oneday I can meet him in person :') #fans
I love Adam's work! I am not sure if I agree with the convention sketches issue because the fans that Ebay his art are, in a way, inflating the prices of his sketches organically. Nice vid!
agreed. He also could post his sketches himself once or twice a week on ebay and make that same money himself. Or do it enough that the art prices go down.
@@AndresSalazararthub It's not just inflating the art, but original art is priceless for "real fans". And it is disgusting that is "seller" told sob story to get Adam to draw for him.
@@brianng3414 true dat
there is no defense necessary for him to decide what he wants to do with the artwork he creates, if his name value is worth more money he can do anything he wants to sell or not sell or raise prices or distribute differently, he can draw for whoever he wants however he wants, artists have earned the right to be paid well if people want their stuff, period. had no idea people gave him sh** for that situation 😞
I'm gonna tell Chris Martin on you, Hughes!
MY NIGGA
I am sad that this great artists are still struggling to survive and have a decent paycheck.
What does Adam mean by the guy didn’t do nothing? He bought a plane ticket, he took time off of work , he paid hotel and food, got there early and had a story. Maybe something came up and he had to sell something he wished he could of kept. He spent a lot of time and money investing in Adam and his work. I see what he’s saying but at the end of the day the guy did not do nothing
Actually, Brazilian "copyrights" laws have something along the lines that re-sellings of an original are owed something to the original artist or maybe to their family, if they're dead. I'm not sure it's really a good thing though, depending on how much it has to be, as it to some degree devaluates the market itself. There can be some people who don't care a rat's ass for the art itself, but who think it will increase and value and become some kind of patron, hoping to earn more after selling it. But that person is less likely to want to do it if this profit has to be shared to a significant degree.
But maybe it's kind of a rare scenario, to begin with, and not really something that disincentives those patrons/investors that much.
I have to sell some of my original comic art collection because of 2020 pandemic-related crisis. Sucks to be me. No disrespect to the artists from whom I bought the pages. I did not want to sell them. :(. I have to feed my kids.
There is a difference between being an emergency and when it is a business or side business. and I am assuming you got these are market or close to market price; you are not ripping off the artists.
@@brianng3414 how is it ripping off the artist?
I've had sketches stolen, dealt with some shady types on sequential work, and been low balled so I'm not insensitive to the situation.
My only thing is(using Adam's situation) if you sell it for 400 and a dude flips it for 1200, he's not a thief. You need better management or connections.
Find a way to circumvent the "middle man".
@@sidjones16 Yes, he found a way -he is not doing it for anyone anymore. So, thanks. Because of greedy people, the real fans of the artists are deprived of owning actual sketches for their favorite artists.
He's just describing capitalism and alienation of labour lol
I have a little difficulty with what adam says, because the guy who flips the item had to wait in line, there is a cost to be one of the lucky 3 out of 50 people who get a sketch. Adam should raise his prices so that only 3 people are in line !!!
Probably why he quit doing them altogether now, probably sells them himself for those super high prices. He did say that person gave him a big sob story, he said that same drawing could have gone to someone that was gonna keep it. Doesn't matter now, but I see why he stopped doing them.
Oh no; the person who has to... wait for it: WAIT IN LINE for the sketch is absolutely OK for flogging the item at an inflated rate, making at least three times the amount for something they DID NOT DO, is fine with you???
People used to get more, then less then nothing as it got worse. It is not on the Artist. You standing in line to sell something double what you paid for it is not innocent. You didn't value the work in the first place. It's bullshit.
Adam is offering these items at a deep discount -assuming for fans. This is like putting your name on a Make A Wish list when you are not sick and stealing the "prize" for someone who actually needs it or taking an organ from donor register and selling it on e-bay. Waiting on line means nothing..
And what if the 3 people in the line were those who buy to sell on eBay?
I can't have sympathy for someone complaining about selling a SKETCH for $400.
What they are actually calling a sketch is quite above the level of what a sketch is generally considered. It aint a 5 min thumbnail in pencil. Plus he is one of the most important artists in the industry. It is fair to let him manage his business in any way he wants. Its his effort and his product after all. The price is a reflection of the level of the demand.
have you even seen any of his sketches? id happily pay 400 and would think it's a steal
But what is the market value? You can buy a car for $500 or $50,000. But it is a world of difference. Adam could have been charging a lot more.
It is like going to a food bank begging for food or a church with a sob story and selling back the food at "premium" price. That is just low.
They paid for the piece.
If it were given for free, that would be a worthy argument. Tsk tsk Hughes
Nah, basically scalping. That's why we can't have nice things
If they did nothing wrong, why not tell the truth? Oh, because then the artist will tell them to kick rocks.
Initial price of an item proffered by the artist sold onwards at a 300+% profit by whomever bought it being questioned by the artist losing out on the onwards sale is somehow to be queried by you how?
Do you have any idea how much A. Hughes is losing out on this setup?
Man has to earn a living, you know.
It is people like you that make everything into a business -whether a baseball or comic or comic sketch. All the real fans are missing out because of "business people" that steal the fun. Thanks for nothing!
$400. For a quick con sketch? No.
They were not quick, they were the fully done ones
It's definitely not a quick sketch, he said he was only able to do three that whole weekend that the con was held, that's roughly one a day.
Then don't buy it, douchebag.
