Ok, I can see op wants to reconnect with his son, but Jake and the ex wife are just terrible. There's times that reconnecting is not an option
He owed nothing to the brat. He never reached iut once to get his dad's side of things. Instead he allowed himself to be manipulated by a vengeful, cruel mother.

I am going to say this if his son was not there for him..why would he think his son would be there for him now..His mother poisoned his son mind..All of a sudden his father dad passed and he shows up for money.
In my book his son deserves nothing he was not there when the grandfather was sick..In the end his father did the right thing by not giving him any money he did not want to build a relationship with his father his son was just greedy and my question is what was his son doing all those years and soon as his grandfather died he shows up for money? If I was Tom, I would have helped Jake financially in hopes that he would stay in touch with me long term. I feel If Tom had given Jake the money, Jake would still have stayed in his life after all was said and done.
