Wedding Budget How To!
Many couples struggle to write a realistic budget for their weddings. And many wedding planners are not quite sure how to draft a budget that makes sense for their couples while still allowing them room to grow and make changes.
In this video, I take you behind the screen and share the custom template that I created over 10 years ago. This is the format I use to create budgets for all of my clients - and you can build one, too!

Thank you for the peek behind the curtains! As potentially aspiring wedding planner, it was helpful to see. Do you fill out the best guesses column live with your client and make all the adjustments with them. Or do you do it on your own then show the client?
Yes I do! I give them my best guess and then we review it to ensure that they are comfortable with the parameters I set.

Thank you for everything you share with us. You are truly the greatest, and my #1 mentor. Do you use the same software for the individual details and costs to keep everything straight. In order to have an exact cost at the end? I guess I'm just wondering if there's a 2nd page for the same couple that has each budget category broken down with the exact items and costs written down. I'm not 100% sure of what you are asking, but I can tell you that I use Google, Numbers, and Excel. They all can convert to one another and I love that Google Sheets allows you to share an evergreen link.
Are you asking if the client gets an itemized list for pricing from each vendor? Typically I avoid itemized pricing. I like a design, proposal, and total cost.

I noticed you don't have attire accounted for, is that something you leave out on purpose? Or just for the video?
I leave attire off because - as a planner - the attire isn’t a part of the production. What they buy and wear is not in my control and is not something that I take a management fee / percentage on. If I DO manage that process... if I make the salon appointments, if I interact with the designers, if I travel with the couple and get stylist involved and arrange fittings...Then I do you put those costs on the budget and it impacts how much I’m paid.
The beauty about this layout is that if you are a couple or if you are a pro and you want to include attire in the budget then you can simply add a new line. It would make sense for a couple because it is something that needs to be purchased.
