As a German I can say heâs just very honest. I know a lot of people that would speak like he does
I'm Portuguese and I recognize his honesty as well, it's called integrity and it has no flag or country.
Keep living in denial, it's funny
To say there are no anorexic girls in Fashion is lying to yourself XD
He's saying follow fashion. He said it's ok to be a little round, and he likes the 30-year-old model. I love KL and Chopette. Leave him alone. He's an icon.
This is normal behavior for a Latino. He is direct and honest.
He was so professional and strict, just as high fashion should be
We are living in a society where speaking the truth makes you a controversial person...
Heâs not saying anything wrongâŠ
fatphobic
He just said the whole truth!! I donât understand why this would have to be considered controversial, he never promoted anorexia but healthy skinny vs fat from junk food that kills far more extensively and itâs dangerously considered as normal behaviour. Itâs incredible how people refuse to see reality just because itâs inconvenient for them. đ€·ââïž
Exactly! People are overlooking his point
Skinny also just looks better. Especially in fashion. Fat women are just not aesthetically appealing
Everyone has just become so sensitive. Lord have mercy.
I'm a woman and nothing he said was wrong. It was all right. I'm so confused. If this was the best evidence they got then they're stretching.
So eating disorders only exist in France now?
Same , I don't find anything he said offensive especially in this video.
Of course they r stretching it, the world has gone insane.
Fatphobia â spreading awareness about health and problems that are coming with being overweightâŠ
Ikr, how is pointing out the harms of being overweight is fatophobic whoever thinks that needs to be slapped to reality
Yes, but he also celebrated the other end of unhealthiness (being very underweight) by only using size 0 models. Being too skinny and the pressures that come with these standards also bring on health problems
I can only speak from my experience. up until i turned 30 & had to start taking a new medication was 110 lbs 5 ft 6. I ate whatever i wanted and was snacking constantly because my metabolism was so high. When i got on this medication my appetite went away so i wasn't eating anything more than maybe 2 popcicles a day i eventually made myself eat healthy meals but that was after i had gained all the weight. I gained 10 lbs every 2 wks until i got to 180lbs & i can tell you once i gained weight i could not do so many things i could when i was thin I couldn't squat & jump back up, i couldn't run for only a few seconds, even walking around a store getting groceries wore me out! My knees hurt so bad carrying that weight around & So many more things but my point is when i became overweight i felt like crap all the time vs when im my natural weight. So in my own opinion you ABSOLUTELY have more health problems than when youâre thin.
Well let talk about health and hemorrhoids from penetration
Sometimes the hard truth hurts but needs to be said.
Americans are very used to being coddled
and adele lost weight, being overweight is not good for anybody.
She was *a little round
I guess he was trying to be polite when we all know she was more than *a little round*.đ€·
@@j-groovy5339 đ
And being too skinny isn't either so
@@RosetteAckesson so true, everything in excess is not good.
Yeah, I'm not seeing why facts are so controversial these daysđ€·đ»ââ
I agree. I didn't hear anything to get upset about.
Heâs Speaking Facts not Hate
So eating disorders only exist in France now? and only 1 percent of women have them? Opinions may be agreeable, doesn't mean that they're actually factual though.
I thought he was going to say offensive comments but all he said is it is unhealthy to be overweight. People love to reach
So eating disorders only exist in France now? And only 1% of women have them? Opinions may be agreeable but it doesn't mean that they're actually factual.
Fashion has mostly been dominated by gay men. They have their own ideas about beauty. Hence why most straight men do not find super models bodies attractive or do they much care for most high fashion styles. It's up to the individual to decide if they want to follow the standard of high fashion. It's completely a choice. I don't understand why people get butt hurt an older gay man has a very specific ideal of what he thinks is beauty in a woman. Gay men are not sexually attracted to women, so they obviously won't find the curves of a woman sensual. They will have an idealistic idea of how they will dress and look because they haven't and won't spend their life with a woman in her highs and low. Amongst other things. So I wouldn't as a woman, be so inclined to be so bothered by what they set as a standard in the high fashion world, unless of course you want to be involved in it or like it yourself. Also Karl, to be fair was fat once. He's speaking from his own experience over being over weight and he's making valid points.
Actually a lot of straight men including me are attracted to thin women
@@catam9308 curves n all are exaggerated in the media. Guys generally actually like leaner girls, if not skinny. Not just my preference, but also most of my friends have the hots for thin girls
â@@Ali-lm7uw absolutely rightđŻ
you cant generalize that. not all men are the same and not all straight men are attracted to the same body type
@@BABXY123
Although you're partially correct, "not all men are attracted to the same body type",
Nevertheless...
Most plus-sized women are not attracted to the 'chubby chasers', either.
The Plus sized women want the 'Idris Elbas' and the 'Brad Pitts' of the world.
They need these types of men to desire "Plus Sized Women' instead.
Hence, why we have a Fat Acceptance Movement to begin with.
If you were only concerned with what the "Chubby Chasers" thought, then you wouldn't care what the rest of the men preferred.
His intelligence is miles beyond the interviewer's.
What is so wrong with saying he doesn't design for every woman? Then he would be like walmart of fashion, it would loose the aesthetics and uniqueness of a designer, that's why he says if a woman identifies with his design or not they can buy it or not
CONTROVERSIAL? He's saying what doctors and psychologists would say đ However, he is not acknowledging that the completely flat stomach and abs culture is also bad. You see, abs are just for aesthetic...it doesn't make you stronger and it immediately goes away unless you obsessively control your carbs which isn't good for both mental and physical health
FACTS NOT HATE. KARL 2024!
So eating disorders only exist in France now? And only 1% of women have them? Opinions may be agreeable but it doesn't mean that they're actually factual.
Beauty is subjective. You donât have to subscribe to his standards. I donât understand why people canât just agree to disagree. Itâs his lost if he did not want to have an inclusive line of clothes.
His job is to make fashion, not opinions
I find most of what he did actually very wearable by most body types, just not by overweight people. But there are brands that do have overweight collections now, so Iâd suggest the people who prettily criticise him look into those instead, I can assure them that doing so would be a lot more productive to them. As for it being in any way âhis lossâ the numbers say very differently, because most people in the world are not overweight, thank god _cause itâs a health problem, in case people havenât heard! He was the best paid and most successful designer of all times, so I really canât see how a few overweight people (mainly Americans) not buying his clothes constituted any issue to him, it so much didnât that he stuck to his guns until he died. Making clothes for overweight women was not his calling, his thing, and quite frankly it wouldnât be mine either. It was simply not his vocation, not what he liked to do. How can something as personal as personal taste, calling and vocation be so offensive to some is something that I will never get. It wildly defies all common sense and logic! Itâs like we have been living in a totally mad, upside down world in recent years. You start by making exactly that point and then become senselessly back handed and illogical. Overweight people are constantly warned by doctors to lose the weight, because of the several serious health implications that being overweight brings; for once and for all, being overweight is not a body type, no one is born overweight; itâs a health hazard. Itâs not the duty of any designer to cater to that and in doing so feed the madness. But having said that, because of greed again there are a few now who do, so if you are overweight go buy from those instead and leave people like Lagerfeld alone to live their vocation in their own terms, at will. With all the serious health implications that being overweight has, if you are overweight how is your priority not to lose weight, but to vociferate at Karl Lagerfeld because he doesnât make dresses for you?! đ”âđ«đ„Ž I canât, I just canât with the insane levels of stupidity and just sheer madness.
He's so right. Stop encouraging us to be fat it's not nice to look fat and not healthy either!
Controversial? I support him. He told the truth!
I love him nothing wrong with whatâs he saying at all, he reminds me of my aunt she is a very blunt and honest hard working woman. This brings me comfort somehow I wish people could still be this honest today
Has he lied about anything? He's just brutally honest in a world where most people are either cowardly, stupid or fake. Why are facts deemed controversial now? Why is the truth deemed controversial? How is it fat phobia to point out the universal, commonly known fact that being overweight is unhealthy?! Honestly people need to leave Lagerfeld alone and get over their stupidity already.
Models are thin because they are basically clothes hangars for the clothes they are modeling. The idea is for buyers to concentrate on the clothes and not on the model.
He was fat he is right its not healthy
Some people are just naturally skinny and they are offended when you think that they don't eat. They do. Stop judging them
Nobody designs for every woman đđđ
Saying you name is just going to get you cancelled in future generations. Heâs German so speaks directly, and heâs a gay man who can make observations that maybe seen as catty or cutting. But above all he was a genius.
I donât see a problem here
He said just the truth
he was the most honest dude in the industry. he speaks truths especially in 2023. fat acceptance is destroying society. i bet he was ready to break "fashion rules" if the girl had charm and magic
Nothing is shocking here. He was just explaining in a later interview that fashion was using thin girls on runways cause women are more likely to buy a dress on a thin girl than if seen on an heavier girl. Same things rules for the guys I guess, most men on runways have abs and very low body fat.
Everyone here saying he was right smh.
He once said that if women donât want to risk getting raped they should all work in a nunnery. Otherwise we have to deal with it. Because clearly women have to be the only ones to take action to stop getting raped, itâs not like men are the ones that actually do the raping⊠đ€Šââïž
Source, please?
Where did he say that??
Since you didn't state your sources, I assume you're just a fat girl who got hurt by what he said, and who were shocked to see the comments agreeing with him cause he simply spoke facts
OMGđ”âđ«đ
It's about adjusting the clothes, why are y'all acting like it's being raped? People nowadays just jump to conclusions. Saying this as someone who actually have their genital molested as a child not at the 'literally a child' age that the white people seem to infantalized themselves about. Yes, there were actual sexual assault cases happening in the industry and I'm glad it's called out because people deserve a safe work environment. But privileged White people nowadays to separate what is actually sexual assault and rape so not to trivialized what real victims go through because there are still lots women of color suffer real abuses but the media wonât pay attention to them since all the white girls hog all the attention & resources to their smallest 'problems'. The MeToo movement was started by black women then it was gentrified by the privileged white women playing victim to everything. This doesnât just pertain to sexual assaults, it's also to missing people
I don't see why any of these statements were / are controversial. Just because Karl's statements were misinterpreted and misquoted by the media doesn't mean he was wrong.
He clearly says fashion is an idealistic idea and the reality is totally different.
Me either and I'm short and fat. Everyone is not going to look good in Chanel Valentino or Oscar Marc nor afford it, fashion is an illusion and escape or dream. People are just so sensitive and take everything literally out of context. Hell if you like it and can afford it buy it and be quiet about it if and vice versa. Nothing this old gay man said was controversial.its all about the Benjamin's because if i could afford to buy any of those beautiful over priced fashions I would.
Totally agree. I'm also small, under 5 feet and quite round. I couldn't find anything he said offensive. Some ppl are just looking for a fight.
He is saying that being obese isnât healthy. How is that controversial?
He SPEAK the TRUTH.. somebody just dont like the truth⊠thats brutally honest what he saying. â€
Heâs not wrong whatâs the problem đ
I didnât find anything offensive in these clips
Well are we just going to make controversy over nothing now?
A man who has the courage to talk his mind and be honest about reality of things while still being sufficiently polite đđđ
Karl didnât care that people canât handle truth.
I agree with most of the things he is saying
Nothing controversial. He spoke the truth.
What's controversial?...I heard nothing of the sort
so what is controversial here?
He's right. Fashion hurts sometimes.
I like how saying that obesity is bad for your health is somehow, controversial, rather than truthful. The majority of obesity in this country carries with it a plethora of additional health issues like pre-hypertension, pre-diabetic, diabetes, type two, joint, inflammation, vascular and circulatory issues, and the list goes on. Or, we could keep entertaining this illusion, that somehow just saying something is fine, makes it fine.
I think the only ppl that would be insulted are anorexic or obese...he said nothing wrong
L O L lagerfeld himself was never skinny he was obsessed being homosexual he didnât understand the scientific definition of healthiness he just gave his idea of healthy đ
I like ge speaks his minds and itâs true
He spoke from a professional perspective very honestly, in which a quality that is not very much understood by most people nowadays. The media's questions are from viewers' perspectives. good questions are being anwered well.
Karl has a clear mind. đ đ
Yeah I saw nothing controversial about his statement, and Iâm a female who is on the âthickerâ side. He spoke the truth and some people were insulted by his remarks.
Controversial ?
He just speak facts about food and health : fat people have various problems related to their condition, such as diabete or strokes...
He has the balls to say the truth! Iâm overweight and I 100% agree with him!
Language barrier and the need to be politically correct is why this video content was deemed controversial.
Excess fat is not healthy and not attractive. Fat shaming is another political term used by the food industry. Itâs all about money.
I never heard him say anything controversial in this interview
Being anorexic can lead to death by starvation. Heart failure and other causes. Being obese can lead to death by cancer, diabetes, heart attack, and stroke.
Neither is healthy.
Both are mental health disorders and require the right therapy and therapist.
Never make fun of and put down humans, it can and does do lasting psyche damage. And can even cause them to commit suicide.

I donât understand the controversy if your fat your unhealthy and shouldnât be on the cover of a magazine if your to lazy to keep your health you shouldnât be shown Karl has a point
Hes 85. He's been part of the 1% since birth. The fashion industry is vain and superficial. Why is the son of a Nazi officer's opinion relevant? He peaked in the 90s.
BUT he does make a point that we are overweight and reaching morbidly obese in America. We DO eat far too much crappy fast food and lead a seditary lifestyle Obesity is a health issue. He what he said might come across as rude or disrespectful but it is absolutely true.
Beauty is health and the truth that isnât told is that many obese people live with all kinds of illnesses like diabetes, depression, fatty liver, gallstones, IBS, SIBO, skin problems, no energy, visceral fat ( the dangerous fat), and many other issues.
He ainât say one lie
He just knows his job really well
Nothing wrong with what he says
I think calling Pippa ugly was more controversial. He wasn't the best looking, especially in his younger days so, it's weird that he would be so harsh.
He knew that tho. I think he mentioned he was short and he hated his hands and his mother told him such and therefore he always wore the gloves. I have a mom like that and it makes you harsh against yourself and others
@@sommeresposito7728 Both of my parents were cruel when insulting my physical appearance, they paired it with extreme violence but I never put others down, even though I hold myself up to a ridiculously high standard.
Congrats on your white anglo-sphere virtue-signaling I guess? It's not so much putting others down it's more of being objective in his standards. He was also critical of other men appearance too like calling Andy Warhol ugly but not much backlash because Warhol was a male. He wasn't critical of Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel's appearance when asked to comment about her. "She isn't a fashion person...she got more serious things to worry about..."
@@user-nn5qw5mu4m there are those who hold strong opinions on othersâ affairs, and those who donât. If an adult want to put themselves in harmâs way but doesnât harm others, I just mind my business. Strange when media asks for his opinion and then act like he shouldnât be voicing his opinion, just smile and lie, I guess đ
I love him so much.
Lagerfeld is not totally WRONG but wrong in that he exists within our cultural idea of FASHION that dictates that style should be an expression of trends, movements and artistic conceits rather than an expression of our individuality and personal creativity. Our very notion of fashion is wrong and unhealthy for our existance as humans.
Honest and truthful. He himself was overweight and went on a diet to lose weight. We should care more about our health. i know there is a problem with anorexia but being overweight brings out a lot of seriuos health problems and many people donÂŽt say or do much about it. HeÂŽs right.
Heâs not wrong with overweight being unhealthy. Thatâs not fat phobic wth.
Thank you Karl for keeping it real. Whole new respect for himâ€

You know you have a point if Cathy Newman is trying to take you down.
Heâs telling the truth⊠and sometimes the truth hurts. đ€·ââïžđ€·
Americans are just way too used to being coddled.
He wasnât wrong on the last answer
What would you expect a fashion designer to say? That he designs his creations for women who are clearly overweight? The clothes simply do not look very good on grossly overweight women. This is the truth of it.
Nothing controversial here, just honest conversation from a man who was caught off guard with the question. He himself had to lose weight in order to remain with Haute ......
About the skinny models conversation, I think he is right on that part .
People should be pushing thinner than heavily over weight but the problem is the very overweight people donât feel represented on the fashion industry giving them no confidence I donât believe they belong on the run way but they should have a place in fashion.
I donât see any problem or controversy with his statements, I totally agree.
And this is why the fashion world itself is toxicâŠ. Itâs men still making extreme molds for women to try to fit into⊠alot of fashion designers at the top are men and they are trying to set the standard for what is beautiful to them for everybody
women are the ones buying these dresses. When designers are trying to make collections and present them on heavier models they just don't sell as well. Society has a great impact on what we are told to think.
@@auryflam79 fashion is encouraging societyâŠâŠ (chicken before the egg..) and women want those items because they re told this is how to reach that standard of beauty⊠Iâm confused on what women buying the dresses has todo with who says they should buy it⊠I.e. the creators of this and those who have status in the industryâŠ
