- How to grow in a greenhouse, essential tools and more based on my experience of using my greenhouse in all four seasons to grow not only my own fruit and veg but beautiful flowers for my garden too.
Greenhouses are a fabulous tool for all gardeners, even if you just have a smaller suburban garden like me.

Another great Greenhouse video. I really can’t stress how useful the way you basically mirror the outside by swapping things around. It’s been a game changer for me and I don’t understand why I haven’t been doing it for years.
Isn’t that always the way though… it’s obvious when you know…. 😂😂😂
Your greenhouse is so incredibly efficient. It is definitely the model to follow. Another great greenhouse video!
Awww thanks you.
I still want a bigger one 😂😂😂
Ooh! IKEA recycling bins? What a terrific idea!
works a treat!
Got my green house this year after years of wanting one and I love it so much my peace and quite away for my 3 boys and husband, and all the wonderful veggies I am growing. Love the videos and you inspired me to get a quad grow for my birthday ❤
I’m the same.
I could just poorly out there for hours with a cuppa and the music on
I’ve been bugging my husband to build me one for a few years now.. I’m about ready to just buy the kit myself but I’m so cheap and frugal I have not been able to do it
A greenhouse is a fantastic investment
You’d never regret it
@@LovelyIslandVacation-ch6wo I had no hope my husband would build me one so took matters into my own hands purchased it my self and built it myself to. Go for it, it's a fab investment.
Well organised greenhouse Rhino are a great brand. love their greenhouses. Great video Eli
They are fantastic, built to last thankfully.. cause I can’t afford another one 😁😁👏
Wow, what a tidy and prolific greenhouse. Great advice for those of us considering adding one to our gardens.
When it’s small, you gotta keep it tiny and organised… otherwise it’s just a total nightmare 😁
Love this - been curious about your greenhouse. So organized, and smart use of your small space.
And now you got to have a nosey 😂😂😂
Fab video, I always wondered what size your greenhouse was because it looked taller than my one, I did think maybe you were just short 😉😀 It has a nice roof space to it. You are so right about being organised, I tidy mine up a lot but I always sling things in there when I'm working in the garden and it soon becomes untidy. I loved all your hints and tips, thanks for sharing them and take care 😊
Well both, it’s taller than average and I’m shorter than average 😂😂😂
So many helpful information. This is the greenhouse model to follow. Great video!
Hopefully it’ll sort you out for a productive year
Love the storage bins idea, thank you for sharing.
hope theres a wee bit of inspiration there for you
Great vlog for greenhouse setup. Rhino may have an uptick in sales this week.
Ha ha ha not sure about that
Nice greenhouse tips add my tomato plants are doing very well so is my cucumbers peas plant is doing very well to very tall
Wooohoo that’s awesome to hear!!!
You are a good teacher😊
😀😀😀
🐝Thanks for the great video🌻 I just love greenhouses !! Think all need one
Mine is my happy place
@@eliandkate need a bigger one to sit in when its a bit colder outside
@BumblebeeAdventure 😂😂😂😂
I have dug kind of down under my greenhouse about 18” to make it ‘taller’ but also to try to keep the temperature a bit more stable.
This video has inspired me to get it tidied up a bit in the hope that it might eventually stop raining!
The rain is endless here too.
So sick of it!!!!!!
I just planted some tomato plants lettuce , broccoli
still have cucumbers and peas and more tomatoes to plant
it has warmed up quite a bit
Oh I wish it was warm here.
It’s frosty this morning 😭
My greenhouse is not so beautiful as yours but I’ve enjoyed it and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much wind it has withstood here in central California. Love your videos and I hope you have a great growing season!❤
Happy to hear you are enjoying your greenhouse 😁
In a greenhouse I used to have, plastic broke down and got very brittle. I switched over to aluminum containers to store my potting soil. We moved three hours away from where we used to live and I'm in the process of getting another greenhouse put together.
❤I bought my greenhouse after your first videos about your greenhouse. Very informative! I don’t have power nor heat, but the automatic vents are a game changer! I love my Govee thermostat so I can monitor the temperature on my iPad in bed 😂 I overwintered herbs and greens for the first time - wow did they stay alive/grow strong. I hung solar lights in the greenhouse, but it’s mostly so I can see inside from above in the house at night. I bought a 6x8x10 greenhouse on Amazon for $500, husband built over 5 days in November 2022 and shelves are from the hardware store. I have battery operated fans that I seem to only use in the summer. Oh and the floor - heavy duty weed fabric covered in pea gravel. 😊
Great information. Thanks.
Our pleasure!
This one’s for me!!👍❤️🥂
Thought you didn’t have a garden yet?
I dinnae! But, I can fall back on this when am ready. 🤦♂️😉😂
@jimmyconnolly3461 👏👏👏👏👏

You had it all covered though, yeah? 😍
Yes, but only after watching your many many other videos.

Thanks Tessie 😁
Hi Eli & Kate, what a great video about a greenhouse, benefits tips & advice too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊for

Your greenhouse is rammed with lush plants! 😊
Rammed is the word…. Struggling for space
Still got to do so much!!!!
Hi there, just found your channel, love it 😊
Welcome!! Glad to have you with us Tony. I thought I recognised your name though, wonder if you've commented on a video before and didnt realise it was me? :D
I absolutely loved this!! I’m always asking for a nose in your greenhouse 😊
I think you got to nose all of it too 😂😂😂
@@eliandkate your green house has always given me masses of inspiration, love how you always say I have this but you don’t need it! But I want it Eli 😂
@Garden-of-weeden I’m guilty of that too…
Right now I really want a floating shelf 😂😂😂
@@eliandkate hehehe they are incredibly useful
What a brilliant video! I love how simple it is to just convert growing space for you between Spring and summer.
I’ve got an auto vent question please. How strong are they, particularly in the wind? It’s 40mph wind here today and I haven’t dared open my window, but it’s quite warm in the greenhouse too. Can you lock them when storms are forecast, or do you just let it still do its thing?
So you can close them up… mine has locks but you can unscrew the main barrel and then tie it closed.
Mine have been open all weekend
You will have saw the wind in the greenhouse 😁
@@eliandkate yeah I could see one definitely open but wasn’t sure if the other one was or not, so wondered if that was that prevailing wind side.
Thanks for that. I would imagine they’re stronger than the latch on my windows.
I’d have loved a Rhino greenhouse but couldn’t afford it and was desperate to get started last year. I bought a Halls and I’m happy with it apart from losing 9 panes of glass earlier this year due to one of our many storms. Maybe I’ll upgrade in a few years.
oh I feel for you.
It was a standing joke with us that every time it was windy I'd be out recovering bits of greenhouse :(
That's why I finally bit the bullet and went for one that would stand up to our weather.
Plants and seedlings looking amazing in your greenhouse. My greenhouse is 6x3. Cute and efficient. Lol If I ever get a bigger garden I'll definitely get a bigger greenhouse 🙂
Me too 😂😂😂😂
Came in from planting potatoes and saw you had put out a video so watching a little later.
5pm on Sunday 😁
Love your channel! I'm watching, growing, and learning from Alaska!
Oh Alaska…. Proper exciting!
And i thought i had it cold but im only in Quebec- you’re really got a long winter!
😂😂😂
There’s always someone with suckier weather than us
I finally know what greenhouse I need to save up for! I ordered a Halls greenhouse last year, and was surprised that it was quite short. Thankfully I'm also short, so not a big issue. I don't see this current house being my forever home, so if I ever do move to somewhere with a bigger garden, that I plan on staying in for the good chunk of my life, yours is the greenhouse I will be saving for!
Also, thanks for sharing where your bins are from! Luckily there's an IKEA not too far from me :-D
Those bins are super popular so I thought it was time to talk about them 😁
Sure would be nice to have mild weather like you have. Heating is top on my list when we rebuild the GH this year. I need a couple more feet as right now I’m looking to the rafters for available space 😂. It’s not just how many flats can you fit in a GH, but the canopy of plants and available light. I’m using poly carb panels here to help insulate and they do block a little light to prevent scorching. We are like a desert. I started hot peppers early, but as I said before the Megatron Jalapeños are Fast growers and I just pinched flowers-Ugh! Not sure how this will go this year as I want to try a low tunnel to get extra weeks on all peppers as it seems I just start harvesting when they are doing great and the frost hits 😏.
So my main points to jot down in journal is growth rates of everything so I know next year. I have started many more perennials than normal and added annuals to that list as I would like to see flowers earlier also. The new to me flowers I have to watch maturation dates as some just wouldn’t have enough time here like the Tithonia that popped two flowers and the frost hit. Lol, I thought it was a field weed and wasn’t sure so I let it go-😂now I know where the Tithonia went.
E-Gads, some of these packets have super germination and still others grow so fast it’s difficult to gauge how much room they will need.
On that note we started heating the GH yesterday and by 1am I checked the temp was down to 38*F-3.33C!😮😮. Freak out Time! All hands on Deck! Sound the Alarms! The heater had a malfunction. All is fine so we can all calm down now. Phew!
I love the potting tray you have and was able to find it here in the US. It has helped contain the mess inside. And I found the right size cell packs from Bootstrap Farmer. They will be perfect for tomatoes as they are taller.
Looking over seeds that still need started and trying to plan my strategy as I haven’t started tomatoes yet and I want them to go right from starter cell to ground. I’m going by in ground timing because 5/12 is our last frost, but we can’t safely plant until 6/1 unless I’m willing to be ready with an army to cover everything. Last 5/25 we had a bad freeze that did severe damage-it was dreadful and we had no warning.
Hopefully this will be the year I get everything we like to grow fine tuned in the timing and quantity department. I admire those with such restraint to plant only a certain amount of seeds as they nicely fold up the remaining seeds in the packets for storage😂😂. Don’t know how to fix that issue.😅
You have a very nicely organized GH. I see an upgrade in square footage in your future 🔮🧙♀️🪄😉
oh I do like the bootstrap farmer modules :D
Hello both, i am a new subscriber & i am finding your vlogs very interesting & useful.
I have only a small garden but have ordered a Rhino Greenhouse, which should arrive next month. I am having someone install it for me. The greenhouse will be a 6'x4' premium Rhino with staging & shelves. I know this will be a lot smaller than yours, but it's certainly better than not having one at all. I am so excited & cannot wait to get started & sowing. Thank you for your advice, hints & tips ❤ Sharon from Leicester (midlands) xx
Wooohoooo new greenhouse
Super exciting!!
Great video ....your Greenhouse is looking fabulous ....so good to learn the basics & thank you for your sound advice 😊
You are entirely welcome 😁
As always ( hope you don't mind ) a question .....
In your Vitopod ... do you place the pots /seed trays directly on the base or do you stand them in trays & then put them on the base please ?
@carolinebown8686 if you are germinating seeds you need to put them on the base to heat the soil.
If you have plants then you can put them up on a tray if you need to
Thanks very much 😊
Another Rhino fan here. 8 x 8 in Antique Ivory 😅 The extra width means double doors - room for a wheel barrow. 😊
Oh that’s be fab
Id be interested in seeing how your benches work and fold eli, and are they strong
Go have a watch of all the set up videos Andrew
I’ve been doing it a couple of times a year now.
They are super strong
Thanks for the info as currently im greenhouse is full of chard. God knows i don't how as i had 🍅 then i put some cabbages in. But my allotment is full of chard, due letting it go to seed the first year of getting the allotment 😂.
Oh god that was me with pak choi in January 😂😂😂👏
I bought a greenhouse years ago and then when I finally put it together after my divorce was over, and I was back home in my garden, it was ripped to shreds.
Fortunately the company Eagle Peak sent me a brand new one after I put it on social media. Put the frame up and hung lights on it but I've been really apprehensive to cover it again with the greenhouse plastic sheath. I'm afraid that the whip of the wind is just going to take it out!!
When I noticed the old one trying to rip I tried using boards to way down the sides. I folded up the corners and staple them onto the boards. I used canvas straps and weight bags. But the wind took it out. The only thing we reinforcing it did was leave some things left in place but still ripped.
I've been enjoying it as a type of sitting area and I could possibly grow some lightweight things up the side like a vine... But I'm afraid to take the brand new cover out of the box. I sent them all kinds of modification suggestions for the design that they had. I hope they improve it, since I feel it was a complete waste of $300.
One day I'm going to have a high tunnel. The sad thing is, I had collected all the supplies to go ahead and build my own cattle panel greenhouse. But then I just switched gears and thought I wanted something more movable since I'm about to move. I know I keep saying that I'm about to move, so that's why I didn't start some of the perennials here that I wanted to... I should have taken my advice years ago and act as if I was going to be here forever, and that would make it to where I'm stewarding the land even better and learning even more! Maybe I'll go ahead and build that one, and leave it here!! *along with all the other things the next owner will have to rip out if they hate it😂
that unfortunately is the downside of those little poly greenhouse things. They aren't designed to cope with high winds and usually end up mangled. It's always heart breaking to see the picture on social media :(
Some great points Eli to think about when getting a greenhouse. 2000.00 though. Wow. Worth the money though
10% worth the money
It’s stood up to every single storm for the last 5 or 6 years and then some
rhino greenhouse are the best greenhouses i have ever used. had my 2 for 4 years now top brand
Two!
You are spoiled Mark 😁
I think our recent drop in temperatures has meant I can start growing seedlings again. I think during Summer and even the start of Autumn it was just too hot in there... but I didn't consider it and likely didn't keep on top of the watering... but in the last week or so I've managed to get some little kiwi fruit seeds sprouting and even starting to develop their true leaves :D
Woohooo bring it on!!!!
i spray my peppers with fairy liquid and water in a small spray bottle on a night time when i spot signes of aphids. by morning they are usually all gone
Be careful with that one.
I’ve burned my pepper leaves not being careful 😬
You only do it once!
Except I did it twice 😂😂😂
Wish I'd seen this video last year mine looks like yours but isn't at all, we to have dreadful wind these last few years though we're in the south east, its blown panels out already plus we've lost a polytunnel so wish I looked into things, brilliant video ❤
Oh no!!! I totally get it, our last greenhouse was constantly loosing panels in the wind 😭
Yea i leave it til 9-10pm in the summer when the sun is well down just 1 spray per plant. Its risky but it works. Wish i had those windows you have they are mint!
Windows?
Yea the ones that open by rhere self! They are well class. I built my own greenhouse with brick and wood wish i had known those exiseted or i would have added them to the build
@mickgad1 ahhhhh
Great video….they’ve got those stacking bins in Dunelm, I’m considering getting a couple for my perlite & compost. My next investment though is some module trays most likely from containerwise, just need to decide which ones and how many 🎉
