I can think of a few more wholesome chats, but Doug's is both funny and supportive, and honestly he wouldn't be quite as successful as he is without such a unique twitch community.
The crazy thing is that the Twitch Chat portfolio outperformed the S&P 500 in 2022, which is considered a safe index for long-term investing and used as a benchmark for comparing how portfolios and funds perform. Twitch chat portfolio had a return of -18% but the S&P 500 had a return of -19.6% in 2022. It could be fun to let the portfolio ride or have twitch chat reallocate assets each year and see how it stacks up over time.

As a guy who keeps an eye on stocks, I was cracking up seeing the ones chat chose. Netflix tried to crack down on password sharing, people got pissed at Nvidia for cooperate greed, Hasbro tried to get rid of the open license for D&D, etc. DougDoug really chose one of the worst years and chat chose some of the worst companies for investment.

I don't believe they crashed the stock market. Just reddit invested in what most "professional" financial advisors thought was a failing stock. They got pissed and complained. Robinhood to appease the actual people who make them money froze the stock.

Hasbro wanted to revoke the OGL which would make 3rd party content (homebrew) belong to Hasbro, or at the very least they can take a cut of the profits. This, of course, made everyone upset. DnD beyond subscriptions were withdrawn, people started looking at different ttrpgs if it fully went into effect, even the dnd movie is now not looking good because of this. There was confirmation they won't revoke the ogl but the damage has been done
@@vdsora32 so basically the 3rd party content (that I assume made dnd the best ttrpg in so many’s eyes) was going to be either destroyed or heavily limited from growing and people were reasonably appalled
It's not the game Quality it's the profits from in-game purchases and Battle passes that make a game company profitable. Hasbro also has many Mobile games like risk, uno etc
If Doug kept his Nvidia stock... He is probably way richer than we think right now
