Dont feel bad about anything. My family has always been poor so I never thought about it. The only program that ever made me feel bad were the people at the local church food giveaway. I stopped going there and they closed that location soon after.

Try one of your Buy Nothing groups on Facebook. I got a lot of size 16-18 clothes there when my elderly neighbor had hers stolen from the laundrymat.

Please let your viewers know about their local Facebook pay it forward type groups if they do social media. They can just search “free” or “buy nothing” & check the results. They may need to add their city or other area info. These are groups where neighbors pass along things that they no longer need or can ask for something they need rather than going out & buying it.

There used to be insurance benefits for families of military veterans, but I don't remember the name. That might still be available.
It’s not worth it to burn your gas🙄 the food shelves give you old bread, rotten produce and no-name canned goods.
We get good bread here in Oakland, CA (NorCal) but lots of canned veggies that our local Chinese take and sell at the curbs. I'm sure they do this in SF too. It's usually the off brand cans of veggies. USDA too but they also sell some better food.
I am a volunteer. Yes food can be near the end of life. But we receive food from our local Sprouts. And we receive from Food Lion. We have volunteers who are excellent at purging the bad stuff. We have many people that are regulars.

@@81redddd I hear you. I live in Michigan. The food banks give a lot of food the stores know they can’t sell, it’s close to expiring. I’m at a point where I’d just rather try to buy what I can at a store than go to a food bank, even if I’m living on soup. That’s what it’s coming down to.
i am disabled and infirmed. i can no longer work. ssi pays part of my overhead and ss pays part. i am blessed to have ebt as well. my problem is refrigeration. i need a small refrigerator and can't afford one. this makes keeping food at home near impossible and since i can't walk .... going to the store every day is impossible. wish someone i knew had a dorm sized fridge (i live in a tiny home) so i can keep food here at home.

If you are homeless, talk to a homeless day center. They might let you use their address.
Supposedly the PO will let you have a free P.O. box if you are poor.

A VA ID is not a State ID. I don't think it can be used like a State ID.
Your correct, My dad was a veteran, he had to get a state ID for soc security etc.

We all need help sometime in our lives. Nothing to feel bad about. That's a boomer shame technique. "I suffered so you must too". Luckily our government has more empathy.
Growth, healing, and learning new skills is very difficult. If we don't have security at home, all we can do is worry. Our goals become harder to achieve.
I don't understand why the system is so mean. Fair wages would help people feel more secure, and they would be happier workers. Universal basic income would give people the security they need to go on with a more productive life.
So, take the help! You'll feel better, and wherever you get that help will be able to get the same budget next year to help other people. It's really a win-win thing.
As years go by, your money skills will be routine enough to meet your needs. But it takes discipline.
It won't be forever, and you'll feel really good that you are able to overcome the odds. Be well.

Ohio withholds help for elderly poor. A horrible state. They say they have programs to help, but the workers are awful.

Alabama sure doesn't help. Except for certain groups that work at the locations. They help each other. That's it. I know. I have experienced it all the time.

Try the formal publication for a certain number of weeks in your area & the area where the spouse was last known in the legal newspaper for your county. I used to see notices like that for evictions & adoptions, as as for divorce or separations!!
