Black and Decker Dustbuster CHV1510 15.6v Review

  • Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Black and Decker Dustbuster 15.6 Volt cordless hand vac. LINK TO Black & Decker Dustbuster: amzn.to/2stCstT The unit weighs about 3 pounds so it’s extremely light and easy to handle. When you buy the unit, it will have some charge right out of the box so you can vacuum right away. You will have to charge the unit for 24 hours for a full charge.
Plug the charger into this socket and the indicator light will turn on. You would expect the light to turn green when it is fully charged but it doesn’t. It would have been such an easy feature for Black and Decker to add to the vacuum. This is the on/off switch. Press this button to release the nozzle. Press this button to release the dust bowl. Inside is the plastic pre-filter. To remove it, twist it clockwise. This is the cloth filter which is re-usable. B&D recommends changing this every 6 - 9 months. To assemble it, put the plastic filter over the cloth filter. Twist it into the slots counterclockwise. Put the filters into the bowl and push it into the handle until it clicks. Put the nozzle back in until it clicks.
The nozzle is slim and can get into crevices. A brush and crevice tool are on the nozzle so there is no extra storage to worry about. The crevice tool can be pulled out until it locks. The brush can be flipped up for use. That’s a nice feature because it doesn’t get in the way when you’re vacuuming.
Press this button to rotate the nozzle until it clicks. If you want to mount this unit to a wall, a bracket and screws are included.
I came back from the beach and couldn’t wait to clean up the sand in my car. As you can see the suction is very powerful. Reaching down to clean the mats isn’t hard because the vacuum is light. Car seats are easy to clean and the Black and Decker gets into the crevices to pick up crumbs.
It also did a good job of getting dust off the trim on walls.
The vacuum works well on hardwood floors and tile floors. It picked up oats and flour even from the cracks in the floor.
The vacuum is loud but it’s not high pitched and I’m happy that it doesn’t hurt my very sensitive ears. After use, remove the bowl and empty it. The filters and bowl can be washed with mild soap and water. Make sure they are completely dry before assembling the vacuum.
The Black and Decker Dustbuster is a good value at around $50.

First, per CA requirements, the LED does not turn green when charged so there is no drain on the electrical grid. Yea, one small LED draws so little that even moonbeam would not know. But it is a requirement. Besides....if it is not red and it is OFF and it is plugged in, very easy to determine it is charged...DUH!
Second, I purchased one of these in April 2012; it is now May 2016 and the battery is just now starting to not hold a charge. Over 4 years with heavy use is NOT bad and will most likely replace with the exact same model (unless I can find a replacement battery).
And when I say heavy use, I have two plus 100lb Alaskan Malamutes that shed garbage bags of fur on a daily basis in the spring. And the dustbuster was used along with a floor vacuum.

Just wish I could use it long enuf before the battery runs down. Seems like only use about 3 minutes if even that long and its ready to be charged again. I love the power it has..... just disappointed that it won't stayed charged long enough. I defiantly don''t get 15 minutes use out of it.

I have owned many vacuums, namely a Dyson, Shark, Royal, and Miele C3. The Dyson and Shark have not held up and I no longer own them. Miele (C3) and Sebo (D4) are the only vacuums I will own in the future. Thier quality is beyond anything being made currently (my opinion).

    I don’t like handheld vacuums. Here’s why.
When I use handheld vacuums, they barely have any suction. Plus the filters are a pain to clean. I had one and I gave up on it a few months because it just picked up loose debris. I ended up upgrading to a ridgid. I still kept that handheld when I vacuum out my go kart and when I spill something so I don’t have to get the Ridgid out.

radamantis001 Hi, check to make sure the cord is plugged in correctly and that the outlet is working. Also, the vacuum's switch should be in the "off" position. If everything is fine and there is still no red light, I would contact Black and Decker customer service. Hope that helps :-)

The biggest 90% Complaint on this unit is the battery does not hold a charge for very long & begins to die down, make sure you turn the housing on the filter because it holds alot of crap which makes a strain on your batteries...yes you can remove the 6 screws & replace the bad battery out of 4 & voila your unit will have power again, the nickel cadmium batteries are notorious for dying down within a year, but the new Lithium battery is much better.

This is my fourth DustBuster. I love them. This particular one seems to have been designed in an engineering department located on the Dark Side.
Oh, it does all the picking up that all the other DustBusters but when you press the button to turn it off, watch out! Notice that the off button is only a HALF INCH from the dirt cup release button.
If you are not paying very close attention, the big dirt cup will detach and fall to the floor (or worse onto the couch) spilling all the contents collected in the cleaning session.
I think the expression is , "Aarrrrgh!" (Followed by a few choice invectives not for children).
I am literally afraid to use it anymore. Too many unexpected premature releases.
How could a company that invented the single most handy light in-house cleaning tool and set the standard in the engineering of this great idea let this dirt-dumper loose?
I dunno. But mine is now in retirement in the storage shed.
For heaven's sake, pick another model from B&D unless you're a housekeeping sadist.
