You could try stuffing the tote or draping it over a shrub? And while you're at it fill it with flowers or celery or something.You need extra, or reflected or natural light to get a nice pic. And you can do a lot with auto colour and shadow in whatever software you use. Would your sister agree to showing you how to do flatlay (offer her a dinner out or something) . If you could teach yourself bits like that - mock ups are another whole income stream for you.

It’s definitely worth a try! I think my issue is space and natural lighting for both totes and flat lays.
Issue is I have around 100 products I need photographing and I just cannot find the time to do them 😂 we will get there!
